Cyril Hamstrung? He's ready to go for Box Hill!

I can agree that his unwillingness to go at full speed was the one real box that he didn't tick.

It was an interesting sort of game from him I thought. He tackled well and looked dangerous at times but never opened up the jets.
yeah, which makes you wonder....what was the point?

I understand your point, but Hawthorn seniors is what its all about.

Only for Hawthorn. Box hill is not Hawthorn, and not all its players are Hawthorn listed. Box Hill were a club before their Hawthorn affiliation , and will continue to be after the association ends. The last quarter decision was a kick in the teeth to all those associated with Box Hill that don't necessarily give a **** about the Hawthorn football club. Not even convinced it was a good idea for Hawthorn. Cyril barely did enough to test himself in the first 3 quarters, making his sitting out the last on a 1 man bench all the more appalling.

Would Box Hill have even made the GF without Hawthorn ?

Would Box Hill be the club they are without Hawthorn ?

The same is true for all the affiliated teams. Only one of the two affiliates handicapped their side today, and the one that didn't won.

I think he did what they needed him to do today.
First half stood back and just got some cheap possessions. But come the third quarter, they through him in the action and he really influenced the game, he's lack of dominance was more of the result of his role than his ability. If he has a good week on the training track i think they will pick him.
He will most like be picked regardless if he ends up playing or not though.

The one thing that has me majorly concerned was the fact he choose never to over extend with his kicking .
In fact he marked a ball 45 out and rather than take the shot he gave off to a player under pressure only to see a tackle applied and the ball turned over .

Dash, in your opinion, does Cyril play.....Yes or No ?

Should he ? No
Will he ? Yes
In truth the fact is he just didn't over extend at any time so there for even "HE" would not know exactly where he stands at the moment body wise , that's the stupid bit about today ......other than a blow out nothing else was achieved today .,

Pretty unfair on Box Hill to make them play Cyril. Not to mention the vfl player whose worked hard all year for a grand final spot.
Sewell & Big Boy didn't play anywhere on the weekend meaning that 2 x of the regular BH Players were promoted to the Senior Team. Cyril took 1 spot & the other went to a guy that wouldn't have otherwise have played today.

Exactly. If he wasn't out there to push it all the way, there was zero point. He can't have walked out of that game with 100% confidence in the hamstring.

Just when I thought the management of him couldn't get any worse.
Bewildering.

We can only hope that it pays off, somehow.

Very disappointed that Hawthorn brains trust cynically hung Box Hill out to dry in the last quarter by not allowing Cyril on the ground. Permanent Box Hill players should be very very angry. Already down on rotations, and they have a fit super star on the bench the entire quarter. Arguably cost the boys back to back. Would have been very low risk to put him on the pocket and instruct him to take it easy, instead they put a guy with a pinged hammy on to hobble around instead. Very bad look from a PR point of view. Cyril looked like he felt bad about it, so not great for his confidence either, and if he plays next week he'll be trying super hard to make up for it, and I don't think he plays well when in that mind set - just doesn't seem to flow like he usually does. Hawthorn admin should be ashamed of themselves.

Spot on

I can understand the emotional responses in the immediate aftermath of a lost Grand Final. However the HFC is in the business of winning AFL premierships not VFL premierships. Clarkson is paid to make hard decisions not sentimental or emotional decisions. In ten years every supporter will remember we won the 2013 premiership (and I hope 2014) but precious few will remember we won the 2013 VFL premiership.
I know many on this forum have an emotional investment in the Box Hill Hawks and I respect that. I generally watch 2 or 3 games a year myself as I am interested in watching the development of the young HFC listed players.
However to suggest that Clarkson should compromise his chances of winning the AFL premiership in order to win a VFL premiership is completely disingenuous.

I think the underlying feeling is that group of players, who are not yet senior Hawk's were hung out to dry after giving their all (albeit at a lower level) for a season. I hope this outcome does not hurt the 'fabric' of the club.

However, circumstances conspired against BH a little as well. Lewis injured, Ceglar having hands of stone combined with Cyril being on the cusp threw things out of whack for BH which is a shame.

Listen, guys, I've been following this club for 51 years, and the ONLY thing I want each year is a Hawthorn premiership. You can keep your Brownlows, All Australians, Rookie of the Year, etc, etc, even the Norm Smith award. That's just peripheral stuff which might satisfy other clubs.

I want a premiership and that is all.

If that means using tactics like resting players, dropping them to get game time at Box Hill, playing selection tricks, juggling the team at the last minute, then so be it. You use any tactics that win a Hawthorn premiership (not those used by the *Drug Cheats, of course). If it gives you even a 1% advantage, you have to do it.

If that means losing a Box Hill Grand Final, that's bad luck.

If Cyril comes in and wins us the game, that's fantastic. If it doesn't, at least we tried.

I WANT A DAMN HAWTHORN PREMIERSHIP!

correct on all counts Davo, when these VFL clubs align themselves with an AFL club they know the drill, they know that the needs of the AFL club come first.
