Maybe a soap on a rope for you and your mates. Or the paddle that got lost up shit creek. It's floating around Werribee somewhere.
can someone tell me if there is any truth to the rumor that david teasdale has retired from old mentonians to become a professional goal umpire in the vafa!

At the risk of speaking out of turn, I'll be relatively brief.

Next year you will be supporting Fitzroy in the D1 VAFA footy competition.

Same ground, same rooms, same jumper, similar coaching staff and playing group (allowing for the usual ins/outs of local footy), but no debts and cash in the bank.

If it were me, I'd say most will be supporting the "Roys" in 2009.

That's it in a nutshell. :thumbsu:

Happened to notice the socialists will be well represented again on the Yarra council. Would be a shame if the local footy team weren't known as the "Reds"

i think st leos will go alrite in 09 as they have a massive advantage at their home ground and should win at least 5+ games to keep them out of relegation

What is so good about their home ground? Why do they have a massive advantage?

small ground - suits their "bomb it long to the big blokes" game plan to a tee. not saying they wont lose a game out there in '09 but should win enough to keep out of relegation.they didnt lose a game there all last season - beating werribee the last 2 years there as wellmust have been an absolute shocker to play on as well - hard as rock!

Should suit the Friars though. :p

i dont think winning 5+ games to keep out of relegation is going alrite. pretty ordinary i would have thought......

after being runners up in 08 and going up a div, not getting relegated isnt going alrite? take note of the "+". no offence to the st leos boys, but theyre prob not going to dominate D1 but should keep their heads above water

the cat is having a kid soon, Wood train has opened up a new busines, the Dove has lovely skin, Stagg has stopped gambling, crowey had a shower. jimmy has a new hand, gerry can has a new foot, swainy had a house warming, no one knows where matty cahil is??????????

someone find him.

I'm collecting donations to buy Mappa a pair of footy boots. It seems that due to the finiancial downturn old men like Mappa are feeling the pinch and unable to afford the basic equipment to play the game (as seen in The Age today).

Great to see you still having a go though Mappa!

Very Very interesting news in the paper today. News of a D1 team on the back cover of the biggest paper. First for any Ammo club maybe.

Will this make a difference to their chances in 09 or is it just a stunt to launch the Fitzroy name again?

What the hell was i thinking Harps !

Just to set the record straight, before anyone comments on the bowling-green-like state of the ground :D (especially those from Whitefriars), this photo was taken a while back when we were trying to highlight how the drought had affected local footy grounds, and what councils were doing (or not doing) about it. Thankfully it has improved since then and I no longer have to train in my socks ;)

Pretty sure they are starting work very soon on some massive tanks to capture all the rain and recycled water which will get the surface up to tip-top shape and keep it there.

Talking of whispers, can you confirm the Reds coach is standing down in order to play and will be replaced by someone very close to him?

Nup - Jimmy Taylor remains the senior coach, and Mike Wallis is the senior assistant.

Did I read in The Age today that what I predicted several weeks ago( despite the above denial from Scribe!) has actually happened?

Brother of Jimmy to take the reins.

Ajax had some good tough clashes against Fitzroy Reds a few years ago, but reading the paper today they had over 200 players last year, 4 teams and still had little success on the field.
I think a change of name from Fitzroy Reds to Fiztroy will not help the players, but WOW what publicity for the Club and the VAFA.
Same team different name???
Good luck to the Roy Boys!!
Hope they do well in 2009..:):thumbsu:

Simon's intended appointment had to be kept quiet until the merger was passed and the new board approved the proposed new coach. At the time of posting the status quo remained.

Anyone who actually knew what was happening at Fitzroy would've known for sure, and probably wouldn't have relied upon reading today's Age paper to confirm it.

Why you would bother mentioning your 'premonition' is anyone's guess.

Nice try though.;)

Yeh I really needed it confirmed in The Age today. I was merely pointing out that what I said several weeks ago( and you denied!) was actually confirmed today for everyone to see.

Yeh it was merely a premonition and a lucky guess.

Your denial was, of course, part of a master strategy to keep it quiet .
Yeh right.

If you read the original quote I said there was whispers about it and it was proven right, hence why I mentioned it( I would have thought that was obvious?)

Anyway, it is a good outcome for the Roys, so that is the main thing.

According to the paper, diehard afficianados of the BSO are cavorting about, fawning over their "Roy Boys"... gack.

I still reckon its a great move, and should lead to increased attendances at home games and awareness of the VAFA, especially if Fitzroy are winning. Can't be bad for the club.

I have followed footy for more than 4 decades. I liked my footy pretty plain. You know. Visiting the away venues. Standing to watch a game of footy. Following the VFL competition. That all changed when South Melbourne disappeared. I think it's great that Fitzroy is back. Hope they join Rupo on the ride up to A grade. Maybe South Melbourne Districts can align with the Swans and become the South Melbourne Football Club. You never know in a thousand years we might have evolved into a 12 team Victorian competition again. Those eunuchs at the AFL and the VFL before them are/were devotees of intelligent design and we know creationism is bunk.
