That's a bit harsh Presti. The new coaching panel have definitely got their act together. In fact we have a high altitude training course this week at Mount Waverley :D

Geez, thanks for that Mappa - I thought it was in Mt Martha.

Better get my act together......

yeah....TP14, was just trying to get a rise out of a few of you, chill out.
itll be interesting to see how some of these teams that have struggled in the last few years in higher grades fair in D1, ie. NOBS, REDS ect ect....i have heard that Nobs have recruited heavily from a few big country leagues.
Good luck in Mt Waverley Mappa!

Interesting info on the NOBS presti, a proud club that would be keen to reverse their recent fall from the grades. For mine, Fitzroy will be the better of the two C relegations and should re-group and have a good tilt at the finals.

agggghh Ringwood, home to Eastland, car city, the world's worst Lake, Jooce Nightclub (is that still open?) Daiseys (is that still open?) and that paddock that has a couple of goal posts at either end at Aquinas College.
Could Ringwood be Australia's Springfield?

Summer Rock suggestions while you hit the pavement with your ipod:
Aussie Crawl, Kaiser Chiefs, Queens of the Stoneage, the Stone Roses and throw in some David Lee Roth for good measure......

Not until it gets its own monorial and the world's tallest elevator - that goes to nowhere.

orange whip you must be a long time Ringwood traveller, Jooce nightclub closed around 2001-ish. rest assured the spirit of Jooce has continued at Maroondah Highway's hottest nightclub, Dakota.

to be avoided at all costs.

Any idea when the "Clearances" section of the VAFA website might be cranking up ? Always a little interesting to see what names appear up there.

Perhaps it's a bit early in the piece but does anyone know of any significant movements in or out of clubs. I suspect there will be at the relegated clubs, North Old Boys and my team, the Reds. I'm not playing anymore though so haven't quite got my finger on the pulse. Happy to hear from any Reds people who might know of some names coming in or out of Brunswick Street though.....

Brunswick,

I'd love to tell you the names of the arrivals at the Reds. Sadly, based on last night's turn out, it will take a long time to remember them.

80 trained, 44 existing players, 36 newbies.

May take some time - good thing I'm taking an attendance roll! :D

That's pretty bloody good Frase especially at this time of year. But how many teams will you guys be fielding? The senior team is the only one that will get you back to C grade so was it case of quantity over quality? Remember that bloke walking his doberman doesn't need to fill out the attendance sheet. Personally, training is far better when there is only 40 or so and not 80.

i guess you'd need a bare minimum 80 players at a club if you're running 1s, 2s, 19s and clubbies. agree with the above post though, must be a fairly crowded training track!

JAK,

Roughly 50 seniors, 30 under 19s

We're fielding 3 seniors sides (1sts/2nds/ClubXVIII) and 2 U19s (in North 1 and North 2 under the new structure). So the 4ths have gone and are replaced by a side which should reflect the youth focus of the club in 2008. Quite a few of the guys who would've have been 4ths regulars have gone, whilst others who remain are working hard to improve and earn spots in the 2nds or 3rds.

Agreed, 40 is often better than 80, which is why we may split training up pretty soon. At least this season we have a better idea of who can play in what side from the outset.

It would be fair to say were trying to take a similar approach as Anthony Parkin did at Uni Blacks in 2004, when they kick-started their rise from D-C-B.

That's the blueprint.

Scribe,

Did that "approach" you talk about include the recruiting on several A grade players ( refer M Kempton) and AFL players( Groom, Lalich) to add to a D grade list? Handy aditions in 2004.

I think from memory six or seven absolute guns walked in the door ( including two time B&f winner al smith) , so lets not get too romantic about "his" approach.
A lot of ground work was done prior to change their culture.
I reckon adding those players to the Reds would see them win a few flags too!

Good post Brian.
You, did, however, forget to mention the addition of Bryce Shaw ( 4 goals in state game) in 2004 as well. Very good player.

Agreed it is easy to have a good approach when these guys come to D section!

Hmmm....can't say I've seen players of similar ilk in our sessions thus far....(scratches head)....might have to try and dig out that Rupertswood blueprint instead!!! :p

Scribe - as someone who lived 2 streets from Brunswick Street Oval but played at Bulleen Temp, it always amazed me how many people the Reds attracted pre-season each year. I appreciate the juniours have really kicked along in the last 6-7 years since the area began filling up with families again - but whats the network thats gets so many new people to the club each year?
