Eltham had bout 4-5 seniors out and half the two's were ring in's so i would take much out of the 2's game.

Seniors game was close all day, both teams played good in patches...

Bentleigh would be a 8 goal loser to the Willy side of 08 and our finals team would have given them a touch up, they didnt really like the hard stuff no 7 is built like travis cloke and could do damage all over the ground give him close attention and prob wont see him much....

That FF that went down was look like he will kick a few bags, hes 6'3 ripped and looked fit

Saw the game and Eltham won't do much damage in D2 if they play like that but as you said, both sides had numerous senior players out that will slot straight in.

Must have a different opinion of 'hard stuff' up in them mountains though. I don't see lifting the elbows at every opportunity or whacking blokes in the head who only have eyes for the ball as very hard. Main culprits I remember where No.3 and No.43 (FF). They were also good at taking the short steps when it really counted.

Apart from that you could fill a skip with all the Kangaroo poo on the field.

So if Willy ended up beating Eltham by 9 or 10 goals i think it was, ( 12. 17 to 3. 11) in the Granny and u reckon Bentleigh would lose to Willy by 8 goals, how do u figure u could beat them? I may be a mathemagician making numbers appear but it seems ye olde "Shells on our Backs" would suffer a defeat by about 3goals.. Or did you not play your finals side in last years Grand Final?

All over the D4 board comments about Albert Parks smashing of Power House on the weekend. Even our own Vegemite was on there posting in his clubs defence about small grounds, missing key players, key guns being played out of position and the team "not gelling together" (leave that one alone Nikkoteen!).

Is Albert Park that good or are the House just playing possum?

Haven't heard much from the Hawks nest of late except for speculation, innuendo and rumour! What's the real deal? Are they the real team to beat in 2009? They are playing a great "cat and mouse" smoke and mirrors strategy.

And the Wicks are rumoured to have fallen on hard times with some stalwarts retiring which will seriously affect bar sales.

The Monash Indians, with the best website in the land, can't get any quality players to pull on the boots for the Gryphons. But they do lay claim to a great cricket side!

There is no money for Boyceys boys from UHSOB and Nikkoteen is fuming! It probably makes a few forumites pretty happy.

The big cash is on the self professed superstars from Bentleigh with 200 plus players training on a regular basis. Unbackable, but can they take the pressure.

The rumours suggest SMS has no unity, no quality players and no experience. A re-build or a freefall? Let's wait and see...

West Brunswick will do their usual "win a flag/get relegated/win a flag/get relegated" routine that they are so famous for. No Irvine will see them really struggle.

St Johns are waiting for the early release scheme to kick in so they can get some players back on the track.

SFX are the dark horse with claims that they will destroy all before them in their quest for Premiership glory and nothing less. Unfortunately, bigger heads down there than at Bentleigh (if that's at all possible).

Quick update for you DeeThree on the Hawks...
Will have 9 or 10 new players in their seniors this year but have lost 2 of their best players from last year (Murray & Piccollo)....
Played Banyule on the weekend, who looked extremely impressive for a D2 side, and lost by 5 goals....coach was extremely happy with how they went considering they are trying to implement a new game style and have so many new faces....
They are extremely fit with Port Melb's strength and conditioning coach from last year running their fitness program....
From what I saw on the weekend, I was very impressed with how they played against a quality opposition....they look like a much better team from last year....
I saw the Hawks play against Willy three times last year and Banyule were streets ahead of Willy....

bentleigh were missing 3 ex-AFL players for a start ;) and for those of you who thought they only had one, I'm hearing reports that it's more than likely the dees will have the services of 2-3 some weeks. does any1 want to confirm or deny this?

Here we go again.. Another big year of D3 action about to begin!

The rumor mill is rife and it seems Bentleigh really feel the need to talk themselves up early on.. Overcompensating? or just stupidly giving away their secrets before the season starts? Either way, i'd hate to be on the coaching staff..

Elsernwick continues to be underrated... Dave Smith is perhaps the best player I have ever seen in D3 and is not to be underestimated particularly given he's stepping up into coaching. I dont see finals nor relegation for this squad but they are almost always competitive and I cant see too much changing.

SMS

Big struggles last year from all reports. A few very notable players continuing to carry the entire group. Expect finals this year but no promotion till depth is returned.. lets say 2011

Hawthorn

New Game Plan, New Coach. Interesting. Had fewer avanues to goal last year with the notable absence of M Stonehouse but still did OK. 10 new players and a revamped home ground may take a little getting used to. Slow starters but may be a chance for the 4. If they do make finals the'll choke as always so will remain in D3 again for mine..

PowerHouse

The big sliders this year. Another year on their aging list and they're fast approaching the average age of the Elsternwick list. Only Jesus can save you from relegation this year fella's and fom memory you have him running around in the ruck for you.. tats and all..

VHSVU

YOU guys are goin down down down to D4 town... Nothing more to say

St John's

Unknown quantity.. No information flowing from these guys as none of their team can afford/know how to use computers hence no access to big footy and no info leaks.. They do have a very bad u/18 side which may provide them with some youth.. Like Werribee, these guys will be good when there feeder teams become strong and will rocket through the grades.. will it start this year? I don't know

Monash

The Indian's are another side who have not leaked any info. Unknown quantity for mine but have heard on the rumor mill possible returns of notable older players like Flowerday. Won't know anything till round 1 but don't expect much. These guys will more than liley be middle of the pack...again

West Brunswick & SFX

One will stay and one will go back to D4.. Sorry WB your gorne..

My ladder prediction:

Bentleigh
St. John's OC
Hawthorn
St. Mary's Salesian
Monash Gryphons
St. Francis Xavier
Elsternwick
Power House
West Brunswick
UHS-VU

My sources can confirm that Bentleigh will have Matthew Richardson and Chris Judd (during the bye round in the AFL) and recently retired James Hird and Nathan Buckley playing for them this season...

Well the game B4 we beat hawthorn by about 40 odd points, the game b4 that we won in the wet in a close one by 1 point to PH, we played a shocker in the GF and its not denied by any of the players commitee or coaching staff. Alot of ppl have said we mentally and physically played our granny the week b4, big mistake if so.

In the 2 home and away games during the yr we came within a goal both times so i guess were somewere between 1-9 goal worse side last year being about 4 goals average.

And to that other bloke who commented on No.3 bomma he had a beer with both blokes he laid big bumps on and it was agreed all round that they were fair and just good hits. Even tho ur FF said he had no idea wat happend that morning but was told if was a fair bump......

My top 4

Hawthorn
Bentliegh
Elsternwick
SFX

2 point victory I believe! First for the pre-season, good stuff, yet the twos seen to be smashing everyone and being talked up a great deal and in detail on this website, but unfortunetly you don't get promoted if the seconds win the flag - Question how did the seniors perform?

Who has been talking up the Bentleigh twos? We can only report what the results end up as.

Practice match 1. v Forest Hill - played a team who looked like they hadn't done a pre season.

Practice match 2. v Heatherton - played against a team which will probably fold in the next 3 years. Had to give the opposition 2 of our players as they were short & they ended up with no bench.

Practice Match 3. v Eltham - played against a under done team, they had 3 good 2s players, the rest were either overweight, unfit or hadn't played in a couple of years.

All nine goal wins for us, due to I think was a good pre season with good structure. Real stuff starts April 18.

What secrets??? No one's putting any game plans on here or team line ups!! On the contrary I think all the talk has been about Hawthorn and how they've got a new coach & got new players a gun forward line, this & that. So I think the focus will be all on them & how they go this year.

I hope the council has upgraded they're clubrooms.

oh didnt you hear about the latest team secret revealed - rolling zone defense against Bentleigh but not for the rest of the division - sure to win! and stack our backline along the wing so that we have a clear paddock to run against SMS? -

LOL !- seriously if anyone does post "secrets" you'd be a real twat to do so in a forum or space thats just for light hearted banter, and the occassional bait, your either not within the inner sanctum of the team/club or just a pretender..:D

a bit of a trend naming SFX in top 4 lately by a few posters, is that because of the 'dark horse' status or has anyone actually seen the SFX pre-season form ???

Its funny sniper, but just because a fair bit it spoken about certain clubs (Bentliegh & SMS) on here, people like to assume the people from that club are "talking it up" about how good they are going to be. We (SMS) have copped it on her also!! The people from Bentleigh & SMS (as examples) have only really been on here with information on numbers, practice matches and just general stuff. I dont think they have really piped up and said they are going to be world beaters!!!. It seems to be people from other clubs that assume we think we are going to be too good!!

On last years performances both Bentleigh and SMS have a ton of work to do to be successful this year (the drop in grade surely isnt that much....) and we at SMS are well aware of this as im sure bentleigh are!!!

On the contrary, every Bentleigh poster who has given his ladder predictions has them at 1 or 2....

Ok take your point on secrets..

Naming new players.. numbers.. practice match results and form really isn't giving anything away..

It does seem that SMS and Bentleigh have the majority of the share of voice on this forum too which explains alot about the talk on your clubs..

D2 Vs D3.. The difference lies in players 15-22 and a bit of the depth. Most top 10 players at any club would most likely get a senior game in all Ammo divi's right up to A grade in my opinion.

Have the Hawks fixed Rathmines for real? I hate that ground...

Yeah but I dont think that is really boasting as such. I would expect eveyone on here to pick there team in the top 2. You need to go out there believing you can win most games... If i did a ladder, i would have SMS on top, just because im biased....

Ok lads, my tips for rd 1 and to get some conversation going.

Bentleigh vs St Johns - Bentleigh 33pts
SMS vs Uni High- SMS 11pts
West Bwick vs SFX - SFX 19pts
Elst vs P/House- Elst 28pts
Hawthorn vs Monash - Hawthorn 44pts

Why don't you tell us, you play for them.
