Fair assessment, Hunter. Tough league when you have to win all but three of your games to secure a double chance - and the division between contenders and pretenders seems to be widening. Would be stiff to win 12 or 13 out of 18 and still not make finals - but it's quite possible.

Does anyone know when Murchie will play again for Swinburne? Wasn't in the team list for their game against WB.

Heard last year in games btwn OW and WB, oral was put on the result btwn the OW trainer and some of the WB trainers. Is there more at stake than 4 points this week for the WB boys?

Heard this year that the OW trainers are not only servicing the WB players after a win. Word on the street is that the OW trainers are rewarding their own now with some extra post match treatment.

Are the OW trainers playing within the rules, or are they cheating?

Talk is troubling is a brewing down at WB in the twos. With former seconds premiership coach spotted in recent weeks and the team under performing despite record numbers, questions are being asked...

Interesting point "eric", I have a contact down @ West (chris Connolly) & havn't heard the rumblings, From what i've seen the problems are "on field" not "off field".
It might be time for a few veterans to return

Disappointing to hear WB will be looking to experience over the enthuasiasm of youth which has helped them overcome a poor pre-season turn out seeing them now pushing forward as a possible contender.

Are you sure you haven't crossed wires with Dean Laidley, as this strategy seems more in line with pages from the bible

Understand it to be an ankle injury, nothing too serious and should be back in the next few weeks to terrorise backlines once again

If the kids arn't good enough Eric..............while we are on the WB bandwagon, amazing that with all the off season comings & goings the club looks in better shape, says alot about the "goings" don't you think?

That old Leach! Surely he has sucked enough games out of the club - 430 isn't enough? Bring on the young brigade

May well say a bit about the "comings" as well. Should see an improving reserves side as the new players gel with the club veterans and the right balance is struck.

Speaking of the "right balance", Kew seems to have found equilibrium between reserves and seniors - 6 and 1 for the early games, 1 and 6 for those starting at 2pm. Might be a battle between them and Monash as to who can stack the highest

I don't understand why a club would do that. Surely there's no deliberate policy to concentrate on a reserves premiership. A reserve premiership would be a great experience and a proud moment for the club, but not at the expense of relegation.

The situation at Kew and Monash must be the result of players making themselves unavailable for the later games, or a failure of the senior coaching staff at the selection table.

Isn't it the goal of each player to contribute to the success of his club through first team football?

Wish it was stacking. Kew have about 8 - 10 players of senior ability, they then have another 30 of roughly the same ability.

Kew have at least 15 - 20 players missing out on a game each week. At the moment they are rotating players. You will notice on the website under competition stats that only 2 players have played in all 7 reserve games.

If they could get more players up to senior ability then both sides would be competitve. Being on top in the ressies is definitely not by choice!!!!

Point taken, oldtimer. It seems unlikely that two winning teams can't be chosen from such a wide range of players, but I don't know the situation of the club sufficiently to prove otherwise. Granted the seniors haven't been demolished every week...perhaps there are some coaching/morale issues around the club contributing?

The only thing I know is that they lost 10 of the top 12 in the best and fairest from last year. 9 went overseas and 3 gave it away.

Mainsbridge, Costley, Allen, McDermott, Vechio, Ianni, etc

They have been able to find key position players, however, they have lost their entire on ball division. They are working hard to win games, however, as I mentioned earlier don't have enough quality players.

Seniors will win a lot more in the second half of the year!!!

Which trainer would you be talking about? There are two female trainers at the club??

Because they have only won 1 game so far and they will win more than that in the second half of the year. If I'm wrong write to me at the end of the season!!

Have anyones predictions changed since the weekend's results?

My new top four:
West Brunswick
South Melbourne
Old Westbourne
Elsternwick

very surpsrised with the elsternwick margin, although i had tipped elsternwick to win, that ground they play on is a great advantage and they play it brilliantly, but they are surely not 100 points better than bentleigh.

The demons have UHS this week and then face OW, WB and SM in the next three. Beating WB in round one showed that they can be a quality side when on song, but as mcglede would say, consistency is very important.

Akk, not as surprised as Bentleigh! Too big, too fast and too energetic!
Didn't see your tips though.......?

Elsternwick were 3 weeks away from their patch, so obviously happy to be home. The score is correct and perhaps Bentleigh's young guns seemed to rely on the D factor which lapsed them into a false sense of security. No game in D3 is a safe bet. The Demons will rebound savagely against the Vultures, play a similar game to the Warriors and will probably be choked by West Brunswick and................... when they meet the mighty bloods?

Exactly what South did in 2001! After rnd 7 and safe from relegation, they rotated seniors thru the two's and won 11 straight games by heaps. Going on to win a ressie flag.

Seems Kew have some recruits who won't train, Monash have wiley veterans and a long list to develop.

2's premierships are good for the players, but the 2's are there to back up the seniors. This is where young players that are on the cusp of selection ply their wares and try to prove they deserve a shot in the 1's. Agree no one would risk relegation for the sake of 2's premiership.

Enough philosophy. On a different note, I understand that St Marys are 0-7 in both grades. I understand that they took the step up to div 3 this year, but obviously they are not good enough. Maybe yesterday's roosters are today's feather dusters, or maybe they were never reall in the mix for promotion?

The Saints have lost a lot of very good players from last years list. Those remaining are battling with up & coming youngsters. They beat Hawthorn in semi final and a depleted Bulleen Cobras in the Prelim. to make the GF last season and deserved their place. Narrow loss in GF was poor reward for a great effort!
Now D4 bound, the proud club will probably pass Eltham in the off-season.
Now, D 3 ! Anyone want to back the Bloods?
