The two standouts look to be West Brunswick, who were unlucky to drop from D3 and should to return in 09 while St Francis Xavier should advance in their first year after dominating the clubbies comp. West Brunswick won't lose at home and this may be St Francis Xaviers only loss for the season.

With a new coach, Kew will be tough at home, especially after playing good quality opposition in 2007. They should comfortably make the finals

Mt Lilydale are always competitive and are a chance to sneak into D3 next year if they have enough depth to field 2 good sides. A long trip out there and should win at least 7 games at home

Box Hill North & Albert Park will be battling it out for the final position in Late August / September. Really tough to split these two at the moment but the competition for players in Albert Park is intense so I'm going to go with BH.

Can Richmond's resurgance continue and see them make the finals for the first time since they dropped back from D3 in 2003? Would certainly be a talking point across all the VAFA, except the grades where they don't realise there's anything below B grade.

Look for South Mornington to improve on their first up effort last year. A young team all a year older now with more juniiors coming through. Will be a force in a few years but probably not just yet.

Syndal Tally Ho will continue to finish mid table unless they can get some of their stars back or find some new talent. Not much seems to be happening down at Mt Waverley lately.

North Brunswick will win about 4 games again beating the teams below them. won't trouble anyone above about 9th

Eley Park will have 2 great battles with BHN and beat Bulleen Cobras twice. Possibly 3 wins

Bulleen Cobras look a cenrtainty to be a mid table team in a new D5 division next year

West Brunswick look good to return to D3 while St Francis Xavier

Rooster,

Not knocking you down.... I love a punt myself... But.... Everyone knows how quick things can change around in D4. And I know the market is only taken on exposed form & 'perceptions' on how clubs have recruited.

Are you sure you wouldn't give me 10-1 on the Cobras playing finals?:D

I agree with the sleeves. Get on board EP @ 5 bucks for finals.

That is the beauty of a pre-season bet. After Round 1 it'll be a very different looking field.

Richmond Central would have been money back to finish bottom before the start of last season and now there's talk around they may make the finals if they improve again.

10-1 on the Cobras to win 10-11 games.....who will they beat? WB will make it, St Francis will make it and Kew weren't that bad in D3 last year despite only winning 1 game so should make it. Sides coming down traditionally do ok if they were competitive in D3.

Not sure if I'd offer 10-1 yet, speak to me after they drop their first game

I'm not sure that I disagree with you on the sides that are 'certainties',but I'm suggesting that the pack behind them might be pretty close.

The Cobras have Kew first up, so given they are 'certainties' it'll be interesting to see how they match up.

Dave Witchell is coaching Kew again this year.

100/1 for finals even if you add the reserves wins on!

Is there room for two roosters in here?!?

Good anaylsis anway rooster for us newbies that know nothing about this comp. Thinking you might be over rating us a tad, we certainly didn't dominate clubbies, prahran and the crocs had our measure. I would say we're far from a certainty to make finals.Hope you're right but I'm not convinced yet.

No disgrace they would give most D1 sides a run for their money- very solid football teams

Roster1979, very interesting, not sure how you derive this, but looks good to me. But I will pull you up on 1 thing, We (SFX) play WBR, once, at home, so going by your predictions, we will be undefeated in the home and away season??

Being a new player at SFX and the only player to have played in D4 at the club (I Think??), Im confident that we will be ok. But anything can happen in D4.

Not too bad. Not sure there is such a big difference from Mount Lily down to last though... And who knows what Kew are going to be like this season. A year removed from a merger that saw them go from D3 finals favourites to relegation? They could easily miss the finals. If the likes of BHN and AP and Richmond recruit well then they will give them and everyone else a run for their money. West Brunswick are clear favourites, but its hard to say much about SFX. I'm sure they'll go pretty well, but it's a long season and injuries always play a part. Everyone from Syndal, NB and the cobras can tell you about that.

Anyway... good value.

Clubbies is certainly a good standard of footy, a 3rd place finish there is definately good enough to make the top 5 in D4 (No disrespect intended).

The track record of new clubs entering from growth areas is also good, Rupertswood & Old Westbourne were both successful immediately. The key seems to be the huge numbers available.

I failed to take the quirks of the D4 draw into account when saying SFX would only lose to West Brunswick away. One thing is certain, WB are a 6-10 goal better side at home. They won't be beaten at McAlistar Oval. I expect them and SFX to finish the year with around 16-17 wins each.

Kew were very competitive in 07. Unlike Richmond in 03, Syndal in 05 or UHS in 06 they weren't the laughing stock of the competition and belted every week, though they did cop some they were still tough to beat at Vic Park and should win 7-8 games there this year.
