AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
just read on the d3 forum that the VAFA has decided to introduce two new rules this year, one is for holding players off the ball stoppng them getting to the next contest (which i have no real issue with) he other, however, is related to rushed behinds and awarding a free kick for the action........ I for one am against it but will swallow it because we will have to, i think that it will be necessary for reserves umpires to concur before a match to discuss how strictly it will be interpreted. I wouldnt be against a gentlemans agreement to not pay the rule at all but it needs to be sorted before the first bounce to avoid bad decisions and controversies. Thoughts?
If AFL umpires are not sure how to enforce the rule then how are D4 umps expected to handle it???
Foolish rule change for this season, the Shol-ster would've been better off waiting a year. After a season at AFL level when the rule would've been thoroughly tested and interpretations have been clarified.
It definately effects how the game is played by the defenders. Without the easy option they'll be forced to throw the ball on the boot... a hit and hope proposition.
What do you think of it waz? you do a bit of ressies umpiring how will you interpret it? or will you make an agreement with the oppositions umpire about the interpretation
The good ones pay it as they see it. The bad ones think about it too much and only pay it in favour of the home team.
I'm being facetious, but this is roughly enough how it works out. It makes it easier for the umpires to find a free kick for those that have a lower level of integrity & for the ones who do the job as fairly as they can, it doesn't make a difference. It's just another rule to interpret.
I have no idea really - don't care about other teams (in the nicest way).
I wanted to go groupings, but I'll conform & do some sort of a ladder.
Albert Park
Mt Lilydale (these two a little clear of the others)
Swinburne
Kew
Latrobe
Richmond
EP
Manningham (all of the above teams to be very competitive)
Sth Mornington
BHN
NB
Chadstone
Manningham would be very confident of being very competitive this year. As for ladder position, nobody knows at the moment. It'll depend on whether our recruits can get a kick when the heat is on. We haven't lost anyone of note, so our improvement comes from our new blood.
If Truslove has left which has been reported on another thread then I would say that he is definitely someone of note!!!

Fair point - sorry - we pretty much knew that he was unlikely to return as soon as the season finished last year - so there was no surprise factor to it.
Not intending to know Trusser - but he is more than compensated by recruits & around the ball is probably the clubs strong point anyway.
A good hit out against Richmond yesterday - Centrals by a few goals in the 1's & a few points in the 2's. Didn't see the 2's but it was apparently a good game. a couple of ring in's (senior players0 on both sides making the result a bit hard to read. The 1's was maybe 5 goals to Richmond. Don't know who they were missing but the Cobras were a few down (Cookson & Tags to start).

Can anyone give a summary of the Mt Lilydale vs Yarra Glenn practice match?

I'm told MTL seniors won well, while the reserves went down. Apparently MTL had 16 players unavailable for the game, looks like they are shaping up well for the season ahead.
Big crowd and some good money raised for the Fire Relief, well done to MTL & Y/Glen.
Isn't it great to hear everyone talking footy again???? You can almost smell it!!!
We've got our first hit-out this week against West Heidelberg so it'll be a good chance to see what our young recruits have in the tank. There's surely plenty to play with. just hope training form holds up!!
Anyway, now to offer something new to D4 for anyone interested.
A couple of weeks ago, i offered a D4 tipping contest as both a way of raising money for your club and to also get some friendly banter going on here about who is the best tipster.
Anyway, i've got the spreadsheet ready to go so would like to hear from anyone interested in taking part.
Entries are $10 each with your club keeping $5 of each ticket sold.
All entrants will be required to select their winners for the season from Round 3 through to 18. So you even get a chance to do your selections on form from the first 2 rounds results.
All money will go into the jackpot from which the prizes will be paid out as following:
1st prize = 50% of pool
2nd prize = 25% of pool
3rd prize = 15% of pool
The remaining 10% will go to the club from where the winners entry came from.
All entrants will be notified of results on a weekly basis via email or on the North Brunswick website.
If anyone's interested, let me know and i'll organise to get the entry form across to you.

BigW.............you must be happy with RC preseason form. My sources tell me that you guys are playing a good brand of running & switching football, have good on ballers, organised defence and a potent forward line. You don't block and/or tackle you just run in numbers, sounds exciting.
At least one Richmond club may have a good season!!
Sure I'll have a crack!
If I am the only entrant then I get $5 and my club gets $5...sweet!

i didn't see our first game, and was happy with how we played on saturday. the best thing is that what the coaches are espousing on the track is making its way onto the field. if we can keep up our training and enthusiasm then we should push for finals, injuries allowing. monash this sat at home should be interesting.
