I really think the internet has killed hype.
That My Bloody Valentine album just seemed to feel like just another record. Not the 15-year late follow up to a pretty huge album. I dunno, I just think this might suffer the same thing. Plus, I still think everyone wants to see them live. Apparently "were you at Daft Punk?" was the first thing asked when you met someone after their Aussie shows.

They probably don't need the money. They're in the privileged position where four or five festival headlines is more than enough to live off for ten years. They'll just do it for the hype, and I dunno if Australia is worth it anymore. I'd absolutely love it, though – but the fecal-ravaged mini-fest idea better not be repeated.they'll probably tour as that where money is made by musicians. question is where and when.
we all know how popular they are here (concerts sold out and the fastest in daft punk history)

Normally, the Annual Wee Waa Show in rural Wee Waa, New South Wales, Australia, wouldn't be a fixture on anyone's festival guide much outside of the area itself. But this year, as well as hosting dog high jump, cross cut saw contests, and a baby show, the Wee Waa show will host something...completely different. Daft Punk have chosen the agricultural event as the site of the official global launch party for their new album, Random Access Memories.
The record is out May 21 through Columbia Records, but will be unveiled at the festival on the evening of Friday, May 17. (The festival runs May 17-19.) Wee Waa's local news site reports that the show "will host a playback of the new album to a packed audience" from a purpose-built stage. And we have confirmed that all of this is actually true.
