He participated in running and some drills with the main group but did no twisting and turning. Still running in straight lines.

He is running though. That alone will be enough to warm the hearts of Blues supporters.

Yeah to me the test will be to see how Sharenberg and freeman work out. freeman cos he was pick 11 and sharenberg cos of his foot problems.

The only difference between Thomas and Sharenberg is that Thomas seems to have degenerative ankle problem that may be re occurring time will tell and Sharenberg only just injured himself recently and should hopefully overcome his injury soon.

Freeman he was the Thomas swap so if Freeman lives up to expectations and likeness to Dangerfield strength and speed we have done well.

Adams,sharenberg,freeman equals FUTURE GUNS .
Freeman was pick 10. We traded the Thomas pick 11 and our second round pick for pick 6 (Sharenberg) and the latter second round pick that got us White.
The way i see it is that along with the grand final win Daisy got us Sharenberg. Daisy moving to Carlton could be a win for us or a win for Carlton or a win for both clubs. It all comes down to how well Sharenberg and Thomas play for the rest of their careers.

This is the way I see it:

Win for both clubs: Sharenberg is a gun and plays 10 years + at Collingwood. Thomas get back to his best for 4-6 years at Carlton

Win for Collingwood and a loss for Carlton: Sharenberg is a gun and Thomas struggles for the rest of his career. (Some would say Carlton got Thomas for free so how would this be a loss. The answer is that they gave up the Betts compo and 700k for 4-5 years)

Loss for Collingwood and win for Carlton: Sharenberg is an average or worse player for his career and Thomas is a gun for Carlton.

Both Collingwood and Carlton break even : Sharenberg and Thomas are both good but not great players for the rest of their careers.

It's going to take at least 2-3 years to work out who are the winners and losers in this exchange.

The one thing I haven't heard many Carlton people say (which is how I would defend their decision to recruit him) is that Daisy cost them nothing, he was a free agent, it'll just cost them with their salary cap and ability to recruit and retain players during his contract. If he doesn't play much then it's a big cost.

If the ankle goes again this year surely he has to have the major reconstructive surgery he was advised to have at the start of 2013. If he misses the start of this year, plays a couple game then does the ankle around May-June, has the surgery he would miss the rest of 2014 and probably all of 2015.

True Regpies, it is a big cost, salary cap wise, if he can't get on the park.

They're still sounding confident which obviously is what you'd expect and they'd have their fingers crossed, because Thomas at his best would be a great asset for them.

Personally I'd be surprised if they see his best, but Judd with his shoulder has been stellar for them, so all things are possible.

But if it does turn to custard, there'll be a huge morale sapping, sickening feeling that they paid all that money for a Collingwood 'dud' brought there just because he is a MM lovechild, who by then may well be on the nose anyhow.

It's a really big gamble by them, big upside, huge downside.

Nobody can be sure how Thomas will out for the Blues until he starts playing but the last time he played for us it soon to S--- and if he still has the same mindset as was evident here it may well turn out badly again.

He is a former Magpie now and he did not leave very well, lack of class is the most charitable way to describe it,what annoys me the most was his lack of dedication to his rehab.

It will be interesting to see when he plays and what sort of condition he is in because under match conditions we will see if we were or wrong to allow him to leave.

To be honest I sick of hearing about him he is done and dusted for me whichever way it turns out for him.

The element missing here is the impact of the freed up salary cap space. If we land a FA next year (e.g. Gibbs) with the money cleared off the books by letting Thomas go (probably aorun $500k p.a.) then that needs to go into the formula as well.

Or even if it allows us to keep a player like Ben Reid

They also lost there Betts compo, so not just a cap loss.

Yeah, but I don't think that is how it will work too much.

We have plans for all of our players over the next few years. Just because there is more money, it doesn't meant that it will go to a player.

For example, Collingwood may have assessed Reid's value at 600k, and will have budgeted that. They will be quite unwilling to move too far on that, even if there is more available.
