Sport science last year at school, read somewhere that

AFL and Rugby Union/League had a 50% chance of sustaining an injury within 2 seasons. (Even that sounds a bit low) making afl and rugby equal number 1 most dangerous sport.
Then had about another 10 sports listed with lower percentage rates.

Personal opinion, I would think AFL would pip rugby. Only for the reasons of hamstrings and rolled ankles with the greater distance travelled running.

The rule where you can't look at your opponent for fear of a free kick - playing the man not the ball - makes AFL the most dangerous. That's why we have the most spectacular collisions.

Thugby players are looking at each other and can see their op coming. 2 guys flying for a mark with their eyes on the ball will always be much more dangerous than some guy with no neck being tackled by another guy with no neck - or brains :)

Oh, but hang on, what about grid iron, ha,ha,ha,ha. Talk about a load of padded up idiots. I'd like to see them play AFL - they'd run away in fright.
