The big watch from here would surely be swelling or soft tissue because those movements look relatively dynamic for a guy that had ACL surgery 6 months ago.

had a lot of fun playing footy with lifelong mates. the memories are worth the cost (mostly)

They sure are. Football pretty much saved my life. I got so much support and it even motivated me to go back to Uni and get an actual education. great memories. It's actually 40 years ago this year, when I last played in Premiership. Geez I'm getting old

That's you. What about those of us who immediately on seeing the thread title, turn on a hot bath, demolish the sleeping pills in the cabinet and check the supply of razor blades, not necessarily in that order?!

The plan is unquestionably for him to play. There’s a bit of expectation management in there, but it’s been pretty clear from the get-go that he’s aiming to be back at the business end of the season.

The rest of the what-ifs also apply to him slipping on the soap in the shower, or unexpected meteor strikes.

Of course we hope he plays but the issues are the known unknowns and unknown unknowns

That’s like saying we don’t know if Mitchell or De Goey will play again in 2024 because maybe their recovery doesn’t go well. If McStay recovers within the expected, established timeframe, he’ll be back at the pointy end of the season.

Not if he loses his hunger for the game in the meantime ..which is plausible as winter descends and the temperature drops across this fine city we call 'da home of football'

No because there are more variables and known unknowns with acl knee recoveries than groin strains and plantar fasciitis

Fair point, it is harder to get motivated to run in the dark, and these wintry daylight hours are so brief…
