Comparing Motlop to Cupido is just plain wrong.

that's the problem. there is actually bugger all difference.

All the talent in the world, but only on the say so of others, actual on field exploits are a different matter.

now be careful, or I will bring up Daniel McAlister :p

I thought that you were going to say Yao Ming. ;)

The 2004 version of Motlop was a very good footballer. Cupido has never been a good footballer.

lol. no. Cupido has certainly shown flashes of brilliance. Lets not forget Motlops 34 goals in 2004 was not exactly earth shattering.

34 goals is a nice return, but it is not much more.

you're overrating him because, right now, you can. Good luck to you, but don't get lost in the hype.

No, you're under-rating him.
We're the ones who have seen his development over the last four years, and seen what he is capable of at varying levels of football. This is rated first hand against a list of AFL footballers. Of all of them, none, with the possible exception of Wells, had anywhere near the talent.
I'd hazard a guess that you've seen nothing more of him than a couple of televised games. You rate him on statistics because that's all you've got... and then accuse us of over-rating him.

Who's got the perspective here?

I agree with this but we'll never know. I'm definitely in the pro junior camp and maintain that he was our best forward before he got injured.
How do you view it now? Thommo, Sav and Shagga have miles better records. I prefer to deal in cold hard stats.

He may end up being great however I just can't see him being as influential as M O'Loughlin (maybe an unfair comparison).

It's irrelevant mate. He's gone and I want the best deal for him as possible. I don't give a ********e about what did or didn't happen to make him want to leave.

However...Thommo totally changed our forward line making space for guys like Shagga, Boomer and CJ to utilise. Motlop would have been effective as he super quick on the lead and has excellent hands. I still remember him taking heaps of marks between hf and wing because he was the only one making a contest. He took 101 marks for the year (most of any forward). He was very good in an ordinary side in what was his first full year. I would have thought his upside was far greater than what I've been reading. Each to their own.

Not bad for a leading forward playing on a flank. He was our most dangerous forward in 2004 and probably would have again in 2005. He was not used as a crumbing forward but as a marking forward... he can play small and tall. As I said he is more talented than Micky O, he just hasn't got the same runs on the board.

I am spewing that he wanted out and spewing more that we can't get a trade for him at market rates. If Richards is worth #19, Cole #23, and Hawthorn saying Hay is two first rounders then Motlop is worth a lot more than #14.

You have to put it into perspective with the type of team we had in 2004, which finished 10th. We had a dysfunctional forward line, again no ruckman, a one-way midfield and a well below par defense.

In 2004 Motlop would have kicked 60-70 goals for Brisbane. If he did the basics more than tried for the mircale goal he would have easily been a 40-45 goal player for us in 04.

Motlop is a serious talent and am sad we lost him, but that is due to off-field issues and has nothing to do with the club.

He will either go on with his career and he will have a big 2006 or he will go bust big time ie McAdam. ;)

Disappointed he has gone, and disappointed we didn't get more for him.

Not much we could do about it, he made his decision and the seeds were shown a few years back when he showed he wasn't 100% committed to the club.

It will be interesting to see how he performs under Choco, I think he is in for a shock.

If his relationship with the Burgoynes goes cool then it will be game, set and match.

Laidley was asked on 3aw today if he regretted the comments he had made about Motlop this week. He replied 'Not at all'. He said that he had had to spend more time with Motlop this year than any other player and he hardly even played a game. Dean made the comment that he is a kid who needs boundaries. He said that he could accept Motlop leaving but he was upset that he and his manager weren't honest with the club as to his actual reasons for leaving.
