As predictable as Greenwood Dusty is, it’s a no brainer.

With regards to Wells. As a fitness coach myself, the added weight that people are banging on about can be easily addressed. If he can get some good k’s in his legs, purely for aerobic performance all he needs to do from here is eat clean and with a calorie deficit. If we manage to knock off the Cats in our QF, he has 4 weeks to drop a few kg. Don’t underestimate what this does to his appearance. That is so doable if he is prepared to be on point with his nutrition and training.

Personally, I’d love to take the risk on him IF he goes berserk at training..
His kicking skills to our forwards is terrific.

Wells has played one half game this year, and is (apparently) not fully fit. I think it would be crazy to play him in the finals, despite his silk and brilliance. We got to September without him and we have other champions returning. Who would he replace? The only way 'in' would be via a new injury crisis. Why did I even type that?

In that one half he kicked three goals and kept us in the game.

But did not see out the game which in a final is more likely to lose you a game.

If full match fit and with half a dozen games under his belt you would pick him. With half a dozen games over several years and none in the last few months it would be an absolutely stupid decision by the Match Committee to pick him.

This whole unprofessional nonsense people go on with Wells is a bit ridiculous.

Comes back from a dreadful injury, that’s professionalism right there.

Plays 250 + games that’s professionalism.

The whole fat shaming probably came when he arrived and it was a few kilos over he wasn’t a house.

And that was the year he played 10
terrific games too.

I really detest the way he’s been presented (by some).

Sublime talent. Great guy.

My rant over

I agree with all of this and no doubt he has added a tremendous amount off field too. But ..... sadly IMO it would be silly to pick him for the finals with the risk of him breaking down again which is a reality. It’s the same with Darcy too. Both players make us a better side but we can’t risk a break down during a finals match.

I guess it's a matter of whether you think we have a team able to win the GF or not without him.

Who would he replace?

It's hard to say without seeing the team as it is. But options would include:

Noble
Wills
Thomas
Phillips
Varcoe
Brown

-- or whoever gets injured in game of the finals. I'm assuming he wouldn't play unless we lose the first final.

When I asked who would Wells replace, I was already assuming 'outs' from the above list for JDG, Stevo and Sidebottom. Take three out of your list, and it gets harder for Wells, especially with his history.

I absolutely agree a fit, firing and durable Wells would help us to a flag, but sadly he's not that.

If it was recurrences of the soft tissue injuries he'd suffered earlier in his career I'd be more concerned about losing him in-game but his last 2 injuries have been impact injuries. The concern is more about whether he's got enough work under his belt in training because if he hasn't that may indeed lead to soft tissue injuries. Coaches will know where he's at with that. Another couple of VFL games would have been handy.

It's tough to say the last two injuries are characteristic of 'breaking down'. They weren't soft tissue - one was a horrible foot ligament break, and the other was from when someone tackled him and bent his knee the wrong way.

Once you join Collingwood you’re subject to weird injuries.

Eye pokes.
Half sack pokes.

Darcy Moore played in the Qualifying Final.

Classy skilful silky player.

More importantly a good human being.

Enjoy retirement.

258 games means you’re one fine player with discipline and work ethic.
