Someone fill me in please.

Have been hearing the stories of how poor he has been over the last 2 years or so.

What round in the draft was he predicted to go at?

What was everyones impressions of him in his 1st year?

He's either gone backwards in development or we made a huge blunder drafting him accidently, especially considering it was in the 1st round of the draft.

I think he was picked 15, so late first round, and I believe there was some "debate" about us selecting him, but he came with good raps and was regarded as a quality outside runner, I think.
But injuries cruelled him pretty much from the off, and he's never settled in. Several young players have since gone way past him in the pecking order, so I guess it's now about whether he has the application and desire to fight back ... assuming, of course, that he can get fit and stay fit.

Form was up and down, but the more he was on the park, the more he seemed to show (apparently). Kicked a few bags as a small forward, but went missing at other times. If treated as a first year player (which is essentially what he is, having missed almost two full years of footy due to OP), you wouldn't be too upset, but might have had slightly higher expectations. May still be a footballer yet, but nobody is convinced.

Yeah, I also think it should be added that he is basically fortunate that we have had such a major spate of retirements over the last 12 months, plus the fact that there are a couple of other youngish players on the list that look more likely to be delisted (Brabazon, Laidlaw and Schmidt) - in another season he might not have got another chance, but in our current context will almost definitely get another 12 months at least.

Thanks for that guys, heard a month or two back that he had not heard from the club about a new contract in the slightest so i was a bit worried that he may not be playing in the afl next year. There is also a fair possibility he will be asked to be traded back to Victoria but who would want to take a chance on a player who has been injured two seasons in a row and played inconsistent in the swans ressies, its not exactly the greatest standard league. As i said tho, this was a couple of months back and things could have changed then.

I am hearing he will be delisted

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised. However, there's talks that he'll be shopped around though in trade week. He's a promising youngster, however, just hasn't had time on the ground because of injuries.

I just hope they'll give him 1 more year. He's my main man from Warrnambool. :(

It's very simple no player on a list is going to be able to show their potential unless they get a couple of decent pre-seasons under their belt. Every player you talk to now says how important a pre season is as to whether you can play anywhere near you potential.

In Daniel O'Keefe's case he has had no preseason to speak of since he joined the club and therefore we know nothing of whether he can make it or not.

I highly doubt the club will de-list him this year without giving him one more year on the list to see if he can do a full pre-season, give him 10 to 12 reserves games in a row, before finally allowing him the chance to play senior football over the last 10 weeks to justify whether he remains on the list in 2011.

Doesn't mean he can play

No, but it does mean that people who ought to know about such things thought he could.

Most first round draft picks would be expected to be at least reasonable AFL players, barring injuries. Unfortunately for DOK, he has had plenty of injuries. I think with the current state of the list, he warrants at least 12 months to see if he can stay fit.

With GC17 coming in you can't stuff around anymore and i was just wondering if you had seen him play as i have and was not conviced he is up to it.
And stat who are the external supporters are they ones that do warm downs or not

....

The guy who started this thread?

So has Brett Meredith but he took the opportunities when they were available.

I would too give O'Keefe one more based on the amount of list turnover but O'Keefe played most of this year through the pre season games in the ones and struggled and struggled to make an impact on the ressies.

Injuries one thing yes but Robbie it's not unfair to criticise his 2009 performance either.

Sure, Meredith did make the jump to first grade where O'Keefe didn't, and that is a reason to rate Meredith ahead of O'Keefe (a fair way, to be honest, I see Meredith as one of the key midfielders for us going ahead) - I don't think the injuries explain everything away, I'm just saying that they have to be taken into consideration.
