I would like to pay respect to the man I believe is Collingwood’s greatest premiership Captain.

Murphy’s injury may have hampered Darcy’s individual brilliance this year, but his Captaincy remained A+.

Moore is 12 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in games decided by 6 or less points.

Thats a win rate of 75%. It’s also a non loss rate of 87%.

There is no other Collingwood premiership Captain that has had a better record than Mr 87% in their opening two years of captaincy.

So thank you Darcy for restoring greatness to Collingwood with 16 premierships. Top of the pile. To live in this era of Collingwood is magnificent!

From 17th to Seventeen - here’s to Darcy hoisting the cup again in 2025 or 2026 or 2027 etc etc. Gimme Moore as Britney would sing…

We go again, the quest for 17 is never ending!!

Not knocking Darcy but calling him our greatest premiership captain is nonsense.

For a start, Syd Coventry’s first 4 years produced 4 flags.

Yep I'll go with Syd. All Collingwood teams are special. "The Machine" was something else.
I have a copy of the such named book. Special times

I thought that Pendles is supposed to be the real onfield leader.

This is amusing because they would not get that many Aussie rules players coming through their space. But Ell's Maggies is right. He took up Adidas for day 1 saying that they sponsored Peter and he was following suit so you would doubt this promotion had anything to do with the broader club merchandise. He also went to watch Ange's Tottenham play. Sportin a new haircut as well.

The haircut is a big improvement.

I can't tell if you are serious or not, but I think you are overestimating the direct impact the Captain has on the win/loss result, as opposed to the coach and the other players. Scott Pendlebury never won a premiership as captain, and captained through some very grim seasons, but surely he goes down as one of the best Collingwood captains of recent times.

Darcy had an average to poor 2024 season. I hope to see a big lift in performance this coming year.
His early part of the year was on occasions terrible
He regained confidence later in the year and performed well
He started to go for and hold his marks later in year also
We need him back to 22/23 form as he’s a real key as the only class key defender we have

I wonder if the lack of Murphy and struggling backline meant he had to do the 1 % stuff especially because our mids were beaten a lot. He did finish top 10 in Copeland and overall 1st in comp for 1 %ers so season was not a write off but he was down in contested marks on other years. Even as a young forward he was placed 15th overal in comp in early years so marking was down. But in Lions match he was an important cog and back near his best. We need more of that next year.

Yep, if we are to make finals (especially top 4) we need a very big bounce back from Moore. It's almost the most important thing we need in my view (outside of the generic need of 'good luck with injuries').

Houston was the best player to have moved in the trade period, but I think a more important target for us would have been Barras to be honest. We need someone who can just hold up a key forward to let Moore and Howe deal with the second and third as it makes sense, while intercepting. I think Moore felt he had to be everywhere at times last season, and in trying so, ended being nowhere.

Nah. Houston was the most important for us.

a) Our transition dropping off was our big issue this year
b) What the Collingwood are only about the now pundits have missed is that Houston and Perryman are young enough to extend our window. Our recruiting hasn't just been about the now - it's also been an age bracket that goes past what we've already got and give us a chance of staying up for longer. Barrass is that bit older and his back issues don't scream longevity.

Dan and Nick in transition next year will give opposition defenders sleepless nights. 2 absolute surgeons with the ball

The flanks should just get so much stronger next year.

Membrey means WHE can play wing again if we want him to. Mids returning should mean Crisp can play half back. Then you've got the additions of Houston and Perryman. We'll be back to having the best group of flankers in the league to rebound the footy - which is what I think our 2022 and 2023 rise was most about.

That's a good point about Barrass. He has less left at his peak than Perryman and Houston. He is clearly more KP size than the latter but Houston offsets this with rebounding and kicking ability.
