The flanks should just get so much stronger next year.

Membrey means WHE can play wing again if we want him to. Mids returning should mean Crisp can play half back. Then you've got the additions of Houston and Perryman. We'll be back to having the best group of flankers in the league to rebound the footy - which is what I think our 2022 and 2023 rise was most about.

I think our rise in 2022 and 23 was largely about corridor. We just hammered the corridor and ran the ball in waves through there. We took risks from as far back as kick-outs to get into the middle of the ground.

Last year, we didn't use it. I know teams will have just loaded up in there, but we lost that game, and even from kick-outs we just dumped long balls to the boundary 55 metres out, and then we were pinned in.

Hopefully this year, we get back to taking risks to get into the middle and going from there.

I would like to pay respect to the man I believe is Collingwood’s greatest premiership Captain.

Murphy’s injury may have hampered Darcy’s individual brilliance this year, but his Captaincy remained A+.

Moore is 12 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in games decided by 6 or less points.

Thats a win rate of 75%. It’s also a non loss rate of 87%.

There is no other Collingwood premiership Captain that has had a better record than Mr 87% in their opening two years of captaincy.

So thank you Darcy for restoring greatness to Collingwood with 16 premierships. Top of the pile. To live in this era of Collingwood is magnificent!

Darcy led beautifully but not sure he’s better than Tony Shaw or Nick Maxwell
Maxwells efforts in those grand finals were supreme as was Tony Shaw determination and willingness to push us over the line
Maxwell started in a very average team and eventually led the best team I’ve ever seen wear black and white in 2010 2011

Both of their performances were superior to Darcy’s actual performance in grand finals
Captaincy isn’t always measured by winning percentage

I'm using flanker to mean outside the contest, so guys like Nick (2022, early 2023 version), Crisp (when playing defence)and Noble were big parts of that corridor ball movement, but id call them flankers. Josh and Sidey also played a part, they dragged the wing wider to create space but then also got corridor side when it mattered.

We stopped using it a heap in 2023 because as you said teams clogged the corridor. We absolutely destroyed Port early with it and afterwards teams tightened up on it.

We stopped using it a heap in 2023 because as you said teams clogged the corridor. We absolutely destroyed Port early with it and afterwards teams tightened up on it.

I'm sure that's why we targetted Houston when we knew he was available - his precision kicking will enable us to pick apart corridor clogging and move the ball quickly.

Unless we change startegy it won't matter most of the time. Our attacking kickouts tend to just be when we're in comeback mode - the rest of the time we just take territory. So you'd want him taking them when we're behind, but the rest of the time even Nick just runs his full measure and goes long down the line.

Yep, this is right, and this has been a frustration of mine watching the 2024 Pies. We aren't aggressive on our kick outs (or other things) anymore - whoever is taking the kick out just runs their full distance and drops it on the boundary line at 60m out (or however far they can kick).

And okay if that is deemed the best approach, but if so, I just wish we'd put more people therefore in and around that spot (including more of our bigs). Too often we just bomb it to that point - not to the advantage of our contested markers - and it gets marked uncontested by the opposition.
