Darnos 2009

They were going hard and strong as I popped in for a beer with them at lunch time. Then stopped in after work and had another couple with them before I left at 5pm.

Big Mal was still there as were most of the lads. Marto had just about had enough and Canny said he was goin home tonight too. Hocka was disgraceful. Olney was in full flight dressed as Fred Flintstone.

I have known Head for 5 years and he is normally a man of few words, but fair dinkum I couldnt shut him up today. He actually is an interesting bloke...lmao.

Well done Nilma. I actually found myself barracking for you blokes on the weekend. I liked the look of the Cora Lynn double whammy. Plus your crowd gave our blokes a bit of support during the magoos as well. Congratulations.

I was hoping you blokes could pull it off

Your defence played well late in the game

Speaking of crowd did Cora Lynn have any supporters at the game ?

is cora lynn the new collingwood?

Not quite we have won a flag this century! I think it just comes down to the fact that we have been up for 4 years now and Nilma hadn't, I think everyone hated Nyora last year, but now that they're shit everyone moved onto us. If we go to shit next year, everyone will probably hate Nilma. Generally in sports if everyone hates you it's because you are doing something right.

Yeah it just goes in cycles, Buln was hated 5-10 years ago cos they were so good, then a lot didnt like catani and nyora. Now its cora lynn and if Nilma stay on top it will be there turn. Its not a bad thing everyone hating you, get bigger games, more ppl come and watch so its good for the cluv.

Like people have already said, it is a compliment for people to hate you. Generally means they are sick of seeing you win.

People may have heard rumblings about Sinclair leaving the Darnos and Patto taking his money elsewhere. Well can confirm it is fact with Sinclair apparently resigning and Patto off to the Yarragon Panthers.

Can any Darnum people refute this or are they keeping it under their hat?

darnum are advertising for a new coach. look in warragul gazette.

Sinclair accepted a job with a club on the gold coast. As much as most people thought he should have been re-signed, he spoke to the selection committee and the president around round 8 and said he wouldnt be seeking re-appointment. He stated, then, that he wouldnt have the time to coach.

Patto will still be around.

I don't think anyone could begrudge him leaving. He has achieved what he set out for and probably exceeded everyones wildest expectations. In three years he was able to turn the club from an on field basket case to the premiers. Even if he was helped by a massive influx of talent it is still an amazing job.

Whoever gets the coaching job at Darnum next year will have big shoes to fill.

Sinclair obviously deserves some credit but possably anybody with some coaching ability and 100grand plus to go shopping with would've got the same result in the same time frame, if Brad only had 30-40g to work with like other clubs, then it would've been a more respected achievement.

Nilma Darnam back themselves for flag at good odds!

Aparently it was printed in a Darwin newspaper that early on in the season a Darwin bookie gave N/D 33 to 1 to win the flag and the players and officials put a swag on it and cleaned up.

Can any one from the club confirm or deny or are the all in Vegas?

Re: Nilma Darnam back themselves for flag at good odds!

Yes the Nilma Darnum president placed a bet on Nilma Darnum to win the flag a those odds.

The exact amount of the bet is anywhere between $3,000 and $10,000 depending on who you talk to.

This is very old news.

Gee, it seems everyone that had an opinion was right about the Darnos.

One year wonders. Everyone collected their dough and has now cleared off sending the Darnos back down the ladder.

I am certain the new pres and committee will do everything humanly possible so they can to save face and still be competitive.

Last count has 1/3 of the side leaving including probably their 6 best players.

Hooray for the points system, means they cant go out and spend big again to replace them.

Yeah, but, they did win a flag. Whereas, if they didn't recruit the players/spend big, they wouldn't have won a flag. I would say it was a worthwhile exercise.
