I did when I wanted to find a thread I could not locate and got a "Searching has been disabled message", is this and bug or has a decision been made to disable searches.

Much of the search functionality is now back (eg find posts by user).
Text searching is in the process of being fixed. Basically one the tables hit a size limitation which led to a change in engine format and this has meant a change required in the search functionality as the old search is not compatible with the new table engine.
