Absolutely NOBODY at Essendon has accepted responsibility. Evans' "the buck stops with me" statement is a hollow throwaway nothing line because he is still going to stand for re-election. Had he REALLY wanted to take responsibility he should have stood down.

Hird - it wasn't my fault, I had no idea what was going on.
Dank - it wasn't my fault, everything I injected was legal.
Evans - It wasn't my fault, oh wait yes it was but I'm not going anywhere.
Players - It wasn't our fault, they told us those drugs were legal.

Shameless, gutless club. Completely unworthy of any respect whatsoever.

Don't know why Melbourne fans are on the front foot bagging Essendon for their drug practices, for if we're done for the same thing we're in far more trouble than Essendon are...

While I agree that it's pointless to stick the boot into Essendon supporters I disagree that we're in a worse position than them in this. Essendon had a program that lasted a year concerning illicit substances. Melbourne had dealings with Dank in an unofficial role which may have concerned an illicit substance used on one player before we cut ties with him. Our dealings with Dank were also unknown to many at the club. But we'll see how it unfolds.

I notice he declined questions that he thought would compromise the integrity of the ASADA/AFL investigation yet he went on to say that he believed that no Essendon players would be found to have used banned substances as advised by 2 sources (can't remember who they were.).

Surely offering his thoughts on the outcome of the investigation falls into the category of "Compromising the integrity".

The main thrust of the report was to absolve Robson, Hird and Reid. They are not going anywhere near a bus. Corcoran has been made the fall guy along with the accounts department. Ziggy was surprisingly critical of the board and Bambi going around Robson thus absolving him.

Very strong statement from Evans regarding the illegality of the substances administered. It will be fascinating how they plan to get around taking AOD9604. Obviously if they are unsuccessful in the defence then Evans will go.

This is why responsibility ultimately lies with those persons who use/recieve/are administered a banned/non-approved substance. Those who are in control (or otherwise) of processes and procedures can always find a way to argue that they were not aware/not fully aware/misinterpreted/misinformed/not informed/ignored etc.

The Switkowsky report and the "We are changing things so that it doesn't happen again" attitude means nothing in terms of past trangressions. If players have taken banned substances or substances that are prohibited under a general WADA clause they are are well and truly stuffed. Equally the AFL, if it is to be consistent with the principles of striving to deliver a level playing field (ie. through the draft, the salary cap, revenue equalisation pool etc.), must deliver very harsh penalties to the players and the club otherwise all other efforts to promote fairness and equality are just token efforts.

I thought he was not going to be commenting on the ASADA investigation until the final report is released.

Evans & Hird should be politicians. Their flip-flopping is right up there with the best in Canberra.

So who will lose their job first, Hird or Gillard?

Hird actually said this at the press conference back in February..

”as the leader of the football department, as the coach, I take full responsibility for what happens within our football department”.

I'm sure his lawyers will say he was under stress at the time and didn't mean it..

They may both lose their job at a similar time given the expected timing of ASADA finishing their investigation. Perhaps they could swap positions. Hird could run for Julia's seat (where he might feel at home among those who use 'exotic' substances) & Julia can coach Essendon, given she thought she would be playing FF for the Bulldogs rather than becoming Prime Minister.

Danny Corcoran was on long service leave for 3 months in the first half of 2012 as his wife was pregnant.

Would be beyond gutless if Evans and his bum buddies were trying to make him the scapegoat.

Corcoran is safe.

Not sure Robson is.

For clarification - Corcoran had no significant role at the club until after the 2012 season. The man who had Corcoran's now job back then was the now departed Paul Hamilton. Hope this helps.

From memory he was working on a part time basis during this period. What period was that and what were his responsibilities at the time? I am not sure that he should be the one to take the fall.

Yep, don't think any blame could be given there.

Feeling s Robson woll go. Not sure who (if) anyone else, probably Robinson son too.

DAVID EVANS SCRATCHED NEAR HIS EYE WHEN HE SAID THE PHARMACOLOGICAL EXPERTS HAVE MADE HIM CONFIDENT THAT NO-ONE WILL BE SUSPENDED!!

That is it ... we're totally faaaarked now!!

So the guys who got you into the shit are going to get you out of it. I hope Evans has independently backed up their claims and not just taken their word for it as he obviously isn't a chemist or knows anything about what is and isn't a banned substance.

"EFC contractors placed orders on suppliers outside normal procurement and authorization processes with EFC listed as the purchaser. This included acquisition of exotic compounds that may or may not have been intended for use by the Club"

Hmmm Interesting word to use instead of "illegal", "banned".

It's an Essendon FC report, they're not going to print anything that'll incriminate them any further. That's why this whole thing's a joke.

Everyone knows that neither the AFL nor the EFC will name Hird as responsible for any of this(especially this far out). Regardless of his role in the program, or his admissions that he should take full responsibility for what took place (He was naive enough to think at that time, that he had ful control of where this investigation would end, it would seem).
No matter how iffy his legacy looks now, they'll not want to tarnish a name that is synonymous with AFL and one club in particular. Similar to the Lance Armstrong scenario before he was truly busted, no one wants to believe that a 'great' could be so dodgy, and make such fundamental errors.

If the AFL or EFC want to move people on, they'll take the minions around him. Evans may just have to sacrifice himself, in order to keep the club afloat.

If they actually did lay the blame at Hird's feet, the club and its supporter base would implode.

ASADA and WADA may have other ideas though.

Why yes.

Yes he is.

Since where is that actually relevant to the discussion.

Happy to assassinate a person's character based on which football team they support are we?

Then if you don't mind, I feel free to question Garry Lyon and his pathetic efforts with Melbourne despite not having the balls to do something serious about the problems confronting it.

Not sure I'd call it a joke.

The review and report were prepared to answer the Questions "How could this happen" and "How can we stop it happening again". The other investigations are aiming at determining "What happened and who caused it to happen". Each investigation should be conducted with a specific purpose and avoid, as much as possible, overlap.
