Big fatty CEO wants to sue, Robinson ratting out on Hird.
Hird on Evans, they are all just looking out for themselves now.

Which is good for us, it means more will come out.
Bad for Essendon.

Can't believe what I'm reading in this thread. People gaining some sort of sick fascination and happiness over the demise of good people. Why? Just because they hate the Essendon football club.

the players are absolutely shattered that Evans has resigned. They are in a far better position to judge him than any of the low lives that get their kicks out of this.

Evans will be sorely missed. A great Essendon man who is loved by all the players and staff at Essendon.

Cale Hooker summed it up best - "absolutely shattered Evans has left. You will never meet a better person"

If nothing else, this whole drama has been an interesting social exercise in so far as non Essendon supporters finding common ground over a much loathed enemy.

I am really not sure what it achieves but what the heck, if it makes people feel better about themselves then why not I say. To be fair, there are some cheap shots flying around about the key players in this story. David Evans has done what any other club chairman would have done in a similar situation. I cant say whether he has lied intentionally as unlike 98% of pundits, I actually don't know what has transpired. I refuse to simply go with the odd media morsel preferring to wait for the official findings rather than make a dick of myself before knowing the facts. What I can say is that David Evans has been dignified throughout and based upon the Tweets coming from his players today, he is much respected and loved. Whilst there may be some players at Essendon that harbor discontent towards the club for the situation they have been placed in (and I cant really blame them if that's the case), what I can say with confidence is that despite what may or may not have happened, they support Evans and Hird emphatically. Surely if there was a group entitled to express the sort of vitriol being authored on these forums, it would be the Essendon players themselves. And who knows, maybe this will happen in the future. But for now, these players are standing as one behind their coach and chairman. Blind faith perhaps? Or possibly out of respect for the protection and support provided by Evans. I would not wish this situation on any of your clubs as you, like we Bombers fans love or club. But should this befall your team, I only hope your club's chairperson will handle themselves with a similar degree of integrity.

The media has been very forgiving in this whole saga if you compare it to the Cousins saga.
He represents EFC you are correct and the EFC is in deep shit and he is responsible whether or not he had any part of it. It is called "the buck stops here"
He did what any honourable chairman should do and he is not a victim of anything.

I am not your son gladly...and I don't like hiking so I'm not going anywhere

Hypothetical - If Demetriou had called Evans to warn him that his club was under investigation then wouldn't he be doing Essendon, Hird and Evans a massive favour at considerable risk to himself? Therefore I can't understand why Hird would want to screw him over by indicating to the press that this is what Demetriou did.

Evans to Hird - 'I wonder if we're the club that's being investigated'
Hird to Evans - 'Yeah if only we new before hand so we could self report and mitigate our cirumstances'
Phone rings - 'Hi David its Andrew Demetriou. At great personal risk to myself i've called to tell you that it's your club that's being investigated by the ACC. Now you can get on the front foot and self report.'
Evans to Demetriou - 'Thanks Andrew, what a friend you are. I'll let James know.'

I don't understand the angle of the Hird camp on this one. Basically they've pissed off the AFL CEO, driven a wedge between Hird and Evans and dobbed in a bloke who tried to help.

My opinion/theory of how it could of went.

I was thinking today before about the whole different stories with Evans and Hird, very likely they do have different stories. So my theory goes like this . . .

Back in mid 2012 Dank was sacked for "budget blow out" well lets me honest that is a wash excuse, the club could smell something wasn't right and looked into him/back ground check and were shocked with what he have/might of been doing so bye bye Dank. The club goes to Vlad and tell him what has happened and Vlad would of said something like this "that isn't good news but for now we will let sleeping dogs lie" so basically sweep it under the carpet. Forward to the start of January the ACC rings Vlad saying there is a club/s that has been linked to bikies/underworld involving PED but we can't tell you which club. So Vlad makes that famous phone call to Evans telling him that the ACC is investigating 1 or more clubs in the AFL and with what happened at the EFC mid last year it could be you guys or it might not be. Evans gets off the phone and tells Hird/co what Vlad said "That was AD saying the ACC is investigating one or more clubs linked to the underworld/PED and he mentioned with what we discoved about Dank it could be possible you us).

  • So Vlad was just putting 2 and 2 together and came up with a conclusion.
  • Evans was told that a unknown club may be under investigation and reminded about the Dank issue last year.
  • Hird interpret Evan version as Vlad rang us and said the ACC are investigating the EFC because of Dank.

Plausible?

Lets say that's the way it played out. Why then would the Hird camp let Mark Robinson know about it? Either way you look at it Demetriou has done the Bombers a favour.

I'm pro Vlad for calling as he was protecting his business.

Maybe maybe Vlad fired the first shot of the leak about the phone call mixed stories hoping it would divide Hird and Evans which it didn't. So the media over exaggerated that the two parties had different stories as expected. Hird's camp not happy about how the media knows about the phone call which include that Evans and Hird had different versions, so he fired a shot back at Vlad.


I don't know, I'm just guessing.

The players want Hird as their coach. They want to play for him. If any of them even slightly thought James may have deceived them it would've been evident by now.
So many of you say you feel for the players and hope they are cleared as long as all the officials go - especially Hird.
The players feel differently. Doesn't that tell you something?

Evans had to go. Hird has to go as well. As probably does Reid.

The main instigators and those heavily involved have to be moved on if Essendon is to rebuild, and do so quickly, from this utter mess.

It's the only way.

Evans will return to highly successful business and forget about this in a few days. He has not lost a job, he has forgone a voluntary position.

I think people would take Essendon's players and supporters more seriously on this bleeding heart if they had given even one iota of passion towards Dean Robinson. The hypocrisy is staggering.

The only people who have offered support to Robinson are the Geelong players, he has been treated disgracefully and I am pleased he is going to finally have his say, as to this point he is the only one who has held his counsel.
