Some incisive posts on here. I think the club is doing the right thing in giving him until at least the end of this season to turn the ship around. I really hope he has it within him,but as as other posters have noted, his and the MC’s judgement this season has left me incredulous 🤨
He has 6 games to show some selection integrity and promote some young blues from within the ranks. I think he gets hung up on big name players, reputations and is somewhat starstruck, hence I question his judgement which is a big concern as a head coach. Go Blues

Who are these big name players he is starstruck by?

Perhaps should have tempered ‘ big name players’ with just more established ‘name’ players like Jack Martin & Crippa (who was hampered) & Setterfield ( who looked off the pace. There are guys who surely would offer a lot more right now ..bewildering

He's in absolutely no position to determine that. Anaerobic fatigue would be the main culprit, but the AFL industry is conditioned to call that kind of excuse 'soft'.

Teague needs some more media training. He opens his mouth way to much.

Have to disagree with this. I feel like selection integrity has improved dramatically since Teague has come on.
Young players are being made to earn their spot and this is both setting a standard as well as setting them up to perform at the level (e.g. Owies, Dow, Stocker). More experienced players (Murphy, SPS, Setters, McGovern, etc.) have been given chances but ultimately dropped when they have shown they are consistently not performing at standard. If Teague was 'starstruck' then surely Murphy is being given a free ride to game 300? That's clearly not been the case.

Reality is that injuries have tested our depth this year and some players have been given more chances than they should have, but this doesn't mean playing a young player too soon and setting them up to fail is the right decision.
There's an insightful interview with Luke Power on the Blue Abroad channel where he talks about issues like players being given games too early in their development, and the necessity of having to learn to play outside their 'natural' position. Would recommend.

Anyway, find me a club whose supporters don't complain about MC decisions. I can think of 17 others. It doesn't seem to matter who the HC is.

That’s funny mate , he only dropped Murphy because of the media pressure and then bought back a week later after 26 soft touches against the semi professional vfl club in port Melbourne who are Bottom of the ladder and Teague still wants to bring him back to get him to his 300th game

Teague has no intergrity for match selections , he bought setters back on Saturday without playing. A game on for a month , played fisher underdone

he should played honey on Saturday night who has been playing footy consistently,

Teague has only 6 weeks to go before the end of tenor that’s the highlight of this year , a Carlton sacking another coach ( my tip he will resign so the club don’t lose face )

It's such a difficult situation. Do you keep Teague around for 1 more year with better assistant coaches (which is a logical choice but also high risk).. or do you go and get a Lyon/Clarkson type who don't really require A grade assistants around them but will change the current dynamic which can affect the culture positively/negatively in the club.

My choice would be to keep Teague for one more season with seasoned assistant coaches who know their stuff. The fear factor behind this is though, what if nothing improves next year also and we finish with 8-10 wins and miss on finals. That is another year wasted, another year off Crippa, another year without proper development on our younger talent. Obviously, this is all a hyperbole.. The club has a very big decision this off season and I really hope this review turns things around, or else the club is doomed.

Teague has another year on his contract. Clarkson has another year on his contract.
I would be sounding out Clarkson to find out if he is still keen on a coaching job or if he would rather take on the 'Neil Craig' role for Carlton.
This would give him the respite from being the head coach to developing the coaches being their mentor/support.

The stage we are at now is one where the coach/MC are putting red lines through players.

He/they have some very big calls to make in the coming weeks.

Whether he stays.....no idea.
Stig, who do you think has the red line on them ?

There’s any number of players playing for their careers, and if they haven’t any trade value that’s that.

Bigger issue for Teague is organising the Betts/Murphy, maybe Cas/Ed Curnow favourite sons transition & that is having an effect.

He has to tell 4 guys he’s known for 15 years their time is up.

This could be a good option all round with Teague as head coach still. Providing Clarkson would even want to do the job and Teague was comfortable/willing to learn from him. Something tells me that Teague is willing to be adaptable and teachable, and it's this character that I still feel like Teague is the right man for the job if we can get his development right. Invest in good people (Teague being one) and build around them.

A few things. Why wouldn't lyon or clarko bring with them high class assistants?

Keeping Teague, do you think we can attract the better class of assistant? They may just look and say thanks but no thanks your clubs not sturdy enough etc.

And to your last point another year of wasted development, you'd never keep Teague if you think that's a high chance. You need to constantly be developing the next group of talented younger guys.
