Day After Day After New Year Test: Australia v India @ Sydney (Tue-Sat) Part 4

It was ponting and others thinking like that which ended with us having the ashley giles clone doherty bowling to england instead of haurtiz.

We want to win the ashes back so bad but the ridiculous let's axe the spinner as soon as india belt him cycle has started again.

God only knows what people here would have said during 1998 when warne toured india, warne didn't get smashed on that tour he got reamed and quite hard.

Lyon isn't Warne. It's Perth, it bounces. Even Warne struggled in Perth. Lyon did little in Sydney so not much will happen in Perth for him if anything at all. May be lucky to bowl more than a few overs if that. . Harris is going to be way more valuable and by a big margin. No good picking a spinner for a spinners sake. Pick your 4 best quicks for the conditions. That's a no-brainer to me.

Just because the SCG as a reputation for spinning doesnt mean it will every time. That pitch was a road for majority of the test. You can't do much on that.

If it's really in favour of the quicks im fine with that, you should note that what you quoted from me was in reply to bombers saying lyon should be dumped even on a raging turner. ;)

Pattinson ... say what?

Patto looked a little knackered by the end of the day's play. Even though he had the feet up for the best part of two days, he's probably not often had to play two first class games on the trot.

Though I daresay he'd give a glare of Haddin-esque proportions to the selector tasked with the job of telling him he's out of the XI for Perth.

Good spinners get wickets on roads.

So what happen to warne in india?

The pitches weren't roads they often spun from day 1 and he got humbled.

As for bowling offies in Australia it's bloody hard work, just ask these blokes...

Murali average of 75

swann average of 40

harbi average of 73

Those three are pretty handy offies they do have about 1200 test wickets between them..

The only reason I would drop Lyon is if the pitch is more suited to 4 quicks. His figures for the series don't look great, but Ashwin's look a lot worse. Fair enough, if the other slow bowlers were dominating and Lyon was under-performing, you might think about changing him out, but that is not the case at all.
What does what someone in the other team does have to do with who we would be better off selecting in our team for the next match? Surely it would only come down to who is going to give us more in the next test, out of say Harris (who got 9 for 110 there last year), or Lyon, who has gotten just 5 wickets in his last 6 innings (all being the "tail")?
How about we just go crazy and pick our best team, regardless of whether they have the tag of "spinner" or "quick" or whatever, next to their name? If we do, Harris would get picked ahead of Lyon on most pitches at this stage, because he is one of the very best in the world, not just our team.
There's nothing wrong with going in with our best team, as crazy as that will sound to some.
That is no disrespect to Lyon, it's just a fact. He will get better and there will be pitches that will suit him really well, but how about we just pick him when those two things occur and he's the best option? These are not practise matches.

All the more reason to not pick someone who bowls off spin in these matches, especially since the side we're playing play it with ease. Or are you trying to make it as hard for us as you can to win these matches? Lets pick someone that is the least suited to the conditions. Wow.

Take your ****ing blind glasses off! YES He does turn the ball, FFS:thumbsdown:

Stop the hate and blindness for once

Go on when does he turn the ball...you can't have an average spinner who is Chris Martin with the bat and Phil Tuffnell in the field at the same time. I ask you again, would Hauritz be any worse....and Hauritz is a better bat and fielder...

Thanks for proving our point....play a leg spinner or a left arm orthodox spinner....off spinners never work in Australia.
