Funnily enough I played golf today with a bloke who works in production at the HUN on the newspaper side of the business in the sports dept. Was in a group i played golf with but 1st time i had ever met him

Is a sports nut which became pretty clear as we played and had a lot of info on different areas. e.g told me a bit about Rance and Melbourne etc

We got onto Beams and his take on it was Beams has had issues with drugs and gambling but the message coming from Collingwood to the HUN was they were supporting Beams, there was no talk of retirement and they were still talking of him returning. He said they were pretty strong in what they were saying.

I mentioned the rumours i had heard re credit cards, prescriptions, falling out with Sidey and the playing group and that was all new to him. This fella doesn’t know everything but he sets up the Sports section of the HUN, has a keen interest and what seemed a fair bit of knowledge about footy’s goings on but didn’t have the same level of bad news re Beams that we do.

Don’t know what that means but was interesting.

Well considering most of the Herald Sun get there info directly from clubs or Bigfooty (Robbo) I'm not surprised they haven't heard anything concrete, but he knew about his drug and gambling issues but hadn't heard anything? Doesn't make a stack of sense.

Anyway thanks for sharing will be interesting see how this plays out.

You probably gave him the big scoop for this week, I still think the AFL and Pies won't let this get out they can't have another horror gambling story.

Direct from Big Footy?

LMAO

People in the media have been caught taking rumours from Bigfooty and running with them, just look at the trade period.

Very rare. People at the Hun and Age have real contact, unlike 99% here

Might also have something to do with The Hun being under the same Newscorp umbrella as Punter.com and odds.com. Or the BetEasy adds. Or that they have a "bet now" function on all upcoming sports. Pretty sure that I just lost 10k reading Garfield on that site.

If Collingwood are trying to make Beams see out his contract, what use would he genuinely be on the field at 30+ and not training? Might be a good way of letting his management know that the club is not about to meet any outrageous severance deals, but is impractical if there is any thought behind it of him continuing as a player. And if players have cut ties with him, that hardly inspires confidence in any return to the club.

Stronger lists in the comp then ours. We are thereabouts but some very bad trades recently is the difference between flags and falling short.
So, answer then question

Another passive aggressive comment will you never learn.

This will be a who blinks first situation, hold out and hope Dayne is desperate enough to take big time unders that would be my plan.

I see he is giving away match worn jumpers with his paintings he really is trying to cut all ties.

Don’t know what that means but was interesting.

Out of interest, did he have anything on the Rance leaving saga? Do the players just not do social media?

That was the point. Info he had was from Collingwood, what the club was telling the HUN. HUN clearly have info that doesn’t go out and he told me stuff about Rance etc that i hadn’t heard. Interesting that they haven’t been privy to any other info about Beams. As a rule I would guess that get plenty of industry goss.

This guy didn’t present himself as “i know everything” by any means and was interested in what I said I had heard about Beams. Just a contrast
of information

Fair enough good to know anything you can share on Rance stuff, heard the rumours but seems a stretch.

I think it is pretty well established by now that the club is trying to keep this quiet So I would not put a lot of credence in what the club is saying because imv the club does not look too flash in this either.

With all due respect, I think what you have described is a posture taken by the club and this guy has bought in to it because he doesn’t have other information.

Well all that is contrary to the article they published on Friday. Also I believe that the club does not expect him to play again and this info dates from late last year. I notice that the idiot Nixon said that the players had lost trust in Beams and he's just spent quite a bit of time with Swan. Dane would know what's going on inside the locker room.

Be Idiotic by the Club to pretty much have 1 less list spot for the next 2-3 Seasons. Hopefully we are not that Stupid

Agree, pretty much my point. Was of some
interest that a guy who is a footy head and tuned into the info the HUN has. Just interesting that none of the rumours that are pretty common knowledge here on BF haven’t filtered through to a media outlet. They would as a rule have many more avenues to info than just what clubs tell them.

Can you really go after the bloke with mental health issues? Imagine the Hun wrote an article and he then did something stupid, would be a PR disaster.

They did with Lyon but the affair came before the mental health claim.

The rumours on Rance and affairs are wrong from what I heard from a pretty good source.

Just really in to his religion.

There are some things in this contemporary world which are very much immune from scrutiny or criticism, particularly when the precise nature of the issue is unclear and clouded by all sorts of rumoured side issues.
