Debt Demolition

Quite a tidy amount of money taken from a pretty small crowd on Sunday (I'll be honest, 29k was a bit disappointing given the Swans gave a fair contribution to it).

http://www.debtdemolition.com.au/ is the website, although I'm pretty sure the figure of $670k to go does not consider the money taken from Sunday. You don't often get people putting yellow ones into tins.

A great initiative by a great president. Hopefully Port can stir up something similar to get rid of their financial woes too.

Why wasn't this done at a home game against a big Melbourne club?

I was a swans fan at the game yesterday and just thought they did it every home game.

I guess though if they did you are really asking fans to donate every time they attend a game.

The game v Essendon should have been the target if it was a one off.

Im relatively new to AFL (im a kiwi) and I think this initiative with the massive drive, energy, and generosity going along with it is amazing.

The first story I read about the nights where fans, players, and club officials stand up and pledge vast sums of money blew me away. Good on the club and those who have organised it for doing soemthing so worthwhile its vital to the club.

If I see them collecting at the Round 20 Hawks game i'll be giving them a note or two.

The Debt Demolition drive has typically only run for a month every year.

This was the 1st home game since we launched the 2010 version, hence I imagine when we take on the Hawks in a couple of weeks, they will be out again then (if it's our home game).

Then again, we don't expect many opposition supporters to donate, so it shouldn't make any difference whether it is done at a home against Sydney or one of the big four. The fairweather supporters who only turn up for the bigger games aren't going to be the first in line to donate.

Essendon are not a charity case  Although it appears the AFL, Other clubs & supporters feel as though we should be :)

Well done Dees fans. It's one thing to get out of debt, though, and another thing to stay out. I hope Jimmy and the rest of the board have a strong plan to keep the Dees in the black.
:thumbsu: Improve player recruitment

All checked. Demons will make a profit this year.

Melbourne will be out of debt this year. From what I gather, the supporters will donate then certain individuals have pledged to wipe the remaining amount.

Secondly, the talk is the dee's are going to make a healthy profit this year.

5mill will have been wiped by Dee supporters. Doubt it has ever been done before, especially at clubs who are supposed to have more  passionate supporters.

It's a fairly ignorant comment. Geelong and West Coast are not cheap places to watch football. Charge more for your seats if you want to make more money.

Pretty sure that all MCG prices are fixed.
