Fugly: Your level of comprehension. Go back and look at it again, maybe you'll get it second time round.

What am I getting? He's claiming that Toumpas' drafting despite his injuries indicates that he and the board were working long term. Never mind the fact that the players at 5, 6, 7 have shown substantially more at AFL level - it's very early days albeit but are we just meant to trust them again?

Toumpas was clearly a better junior footballer then Wines, O'Rourke, Plowman, Vlaustin and Macrae - even Whitfield.

I watched all those guys as juniors, granted he hasn't started well.

And it wasn't because he was bigger or stronger, it was because he was smarter and more skilled.

"Toumpas was clearly a better junior footballer than Whitfield?"

In my opinion, and yes that means before he was drafted to us - no doubt.

Whitfield was and is soft, he'll be a really good outside player - but I never thought he had the ability to change games as a junior, that's something even a maligned player like our Watts had the ability to do.

Just my opinion, but I know that it was shared by a few people (in terms of rating Toumpas more highly then Whitfield).

Surely Toumpas is no harder than Whitfield? Granted, he'll have to actually get a touch in a senior game before we can judge that.

Anyway...

Can someone enlighten me as to what role Lynden Dunn played yesterday? I really didn't notice him much. I assume he was playing in the backline, on Breust maybe?

I didn't really notice him on a man that much - just spudding it up as per usual, Terlich was on Breust.

Somehow got 70 DT points, mainly because he laid 7 tackles.

Now that I think about it, he did have two relatively good long bombs from kick ins. Apart from that... no idea. Maybe he was on resting midfielders?

The thing I remember most about Dunn's game yesterday was when Howe, or maybe Evans, was running it out of the back 50, handballed it towards Dunn, who wasn't looking at the ball, and the ball bounced off his shoulder causing a turnover and a shot on goal.
He laid some good tackles, but otherwise was useless.

God that was embarrassing. They replayed it on the news too.

Drawing positives from junk-time and when the game is well and truly over is not an indication of what were capable of, I don't exactly hate neeld but I've always hated this excuse, it's the positives that are drawn from when the pressure is on and when the game is on the line that defines "where were at" ... We draw no confidence from Any match because we're never in one to begin with and our horribly bad turnovers are at the time when the heat is on.

If we sack him, we're starting again... again.

Give him his three years.

I also believe it would benefit the players, especially the young ones, if we can provide them with some degree of stability in regards to their coaching. We've got an exceptionally young list and for quite a lot of them Neeld is already their third senior coach. Other players, like Frawley, Sylvia, Dunn, Garland, Davey and Jamar have had 5 senior coaches in the last 6 years (Daniher, Riley, Bailey, Viney and Neeld). Grimes has had 4. Given that statistic, is it any surprise we haven't been able to develop our players as effectively as we should have? True, the recruiting was poor but that in itself isn't the whole problem.

The harsh reality is that we lack quality players but we need to do the best thing by the ones we do have. Changing the coach now does nothing but further destabalise the team, corrode whatever confidence the players have and make outsiders feel they can push us around. So far I haven't heard any expert opinions coming out of people like Paul Roos that suggest they have the slightest idea how to win the games we've lost. All I've heard is criticism without any constructive advice.

Did Dunn play?

Serious question.

I remember he did some torp kick ins which was good for some novelty entertainment. If not for that I wouldn't remember him.

highlight was kent, his left foot? has class stamped all over him,his drill passes were that of A grade player,

I agree.he didnt get much of it and made a couple of mistakes you expect from a young player.I liked the long pass to dawes in the 50 from the centre(they said it was Watts).

No they didn't - Watts drilled a pass to Kent, who then drilled a pass to Dawes.

Watts pass was a great one (and had an element of risk), so that's what they were referring to when they said he 'set it up'.

Good: Say what you will about Neeld, he is one tough mother****er. I challenge any of you to seriously imagine sitting yourself down at a press conference after a 95 point belting, when googling your name will return 15 pages of results saying "sack him", and still speak with the confidence, surety and conviction that he did. Seriously, picture yourself in that situation and ask if you could do it. Very, very few people demonstrate strength of character like him. Whatever happens to him, I seriously respect the man.
It's funny. It's this strength and character (which I believe he does possess), that should translate into charisma and an ability to motivate his troops. Maybe, just maybe, after learning his lessons about going in too hot-and-heavy early days, he can find the middle ground and get this group working for him together.

I dunno...

If I was you that wouldn't bother me one bit - when you are in the bottom 4 then it's not about competing with the side on top of the ladder

The biggest question for me is - why have the biggest crack in a game that you are little to no chance of winning - where has that effort been in other more winnable games?

If Melbourne put in that effort every week for the rest of the year, the confidence will build, things will click and you'll win games
Yeah, excellent points.

did anyone else notice in the hawthorn cheer squad there was a banner that was a target? one i find it slightly insulting and two the hawthorn player aimed for it near goal with set shots and when melbourne was kicking that way it was no were to be seen. a bit unfair as it helps with hawthorns accuracy a bit.
not sure it was a hawk cs thing as hawk cs was at other end and i have never seen them do something like that i would say a hawk supporter on his own did that no different to what each cs does to put off the other teams goal kickers one way or the other

Came in here to say you guys aren't as bad as you think you are. Get Clark and Dawes out there together and one or two mids who can deliver the ball and you'll be fine. Looks as though it won't be under Neeld though - someone else posted that he doesn't have the credits to be taking hammerings each week.

Mate, I'm pretty sure players could pick something between the goals to use as a target, why not ANY banner that's there? you're grasping at straws if you think this is an issue.
thought melbourne made us work for our goals kudos to them for that for sure was not as one sided as some thought it would be in my books
