the only other one i can think of that compares with 100 games or more was rob shirley (i know some liked him) but I thought he was a spud too
Shirley was 10 times the player Murphy is. Actually provided something positive. I remember Shirley had 20 touches often and even a 30 touch game one time, Murphy struggles to get the ball 30 times in a month. AND Shirley didn't butcher most of them.

The amount of 1 or 2 touch last quarters Murphy has dished out when the game is on the line should be enough to see him gone, let alone what he does / doesn't do for the first 3 quarters.

Only the dummies pile onto the fringe players. Our fortunes lay with on our A graders, fogarty should have dislodged walker 2-3 years ago, RT showed how important he is when he came in, nicks has never really developed him. Of our A grade "mids" rankine not durable enough, dawson poor year although injured too probably that body type will struggle as an inside mid. Rachele and soligo look okay. Giving nicks another year to ruin the talent would be the main worry.

Probably an end of 2025 thing. On one hand, Murphy is sub fodder if that rule isn't abolished and a good travelling emergency which is a fine use at the end of a contract for a role player. On the other, developing ruck is firmly in the who cares basket of list needs and drafting a SANFL/VFL guy can be done mid-year when we inevitably get hit with an ACL or some freak injury.

We're likely in the market for a first-team ruck at the end of next year.

It's also hard to see the pathway Murphy has to survive on our list now. AVB wanting to be traded here is catastrophic for his job security, especially at a club that has good small forward depth.

He has played 115 games and has the total of ONE game where he has had over 20 possessions (22 in 2023) over his 7 seasons!

This is the definition of a mediocre AFL footballer.

Indeed he was, but with the coaches having seen how Strachan performed I think he'd want to be going really poorly to go down the Strachan path again?
Best thing about dropping ROB for Strachan was it solidified that Strachan's not the answer. A developing ruck is a critical list need.

ANB said he was most looking forward to playing with Ranks and Murph so I'd suggest keeping Murph was in his trade terms. ;)
shocked no way GIF

in the presser he only mentioned Keays, in the write-up version I saw - it said "Murph and Keays, the other half forward flankers" or something. Not super doubting it, but it sounds like an add-on considering how much he glowed about Keays in the presser.

You're right, it was not Ranks, but Keats along with Murph. It was in a YouTube short.

I doubt whether anyone believes sMurph is/was a best 22 player in an AFL team but judging a small forward on disposals is a bit bizarre.

Who was that spud small forward who only had one 20+ disposal game once every 70 games?

Hint; he played 350AFL games.

AFL.com.au have him nowhere near the best 22 (or 26). The first few weeks of 2025 will be very interesting. Which name/s from the forwards area there can we pencil in for a short-mid term injury the week before Round 1 opening the door for Lachie Bradbury?

Do not underestimate the Power of the Smurph.

He was recruited as a small forward by Pyke despite playing the previous season as a defender in the SANFL. Our gun recruit from the Kangas was about to line up for his gazillionth consecutive game, was injured in our last trial match and the rest is history.

Last year I had Smurph 32nd on the Vaderlist but an unlikely series of injuries meant by Round 1 he was the next man up. I personally believe injuries and loss of form to our small forwards will disappear if Smurph is delisted.

Would the AFL even know he’s on the list?

4 players from last years best 22 have to make way for our new recruits. Its unlikely Murphy would survive.
