1977 Round 2 missing games (StK/Geel, Rich/Haw, Melb/Foots)
1977 Round 4 missing games (SM/Geel, Rich/Coll)
1977 Round 11 missing games (StK/Rich, Melb/Coll, Haw/Ess)
1977 R2 Rich v Haw - Not that it matters, but they have the wrong score at the bottom - they've given both teams an extra point.

And I'll ask the silly question - what does the R column mean?

I was at this game. Jim Jess came on as the 19th man in the last quarter. He kicked 3 goals and won the Tigers the game. I was sitting in the old Southern Stand, when he took a huge pack mark just before kicking the third of those goals the roar was so huge it literally shook the Stand. Fantastic game. I see from the stats that KB had 25 possies, 24 kicks and 1 handpass!

Some YouTube footage

This was two weeks before I went to my first game. I recall watching the highlights on the Ch7 news - the sound when Jess marked went beyond a normal crowd roar, it sounded like someone had banged a giant gong. Then the return to Peter Landy, who closed with "Great mark by Jimmy Jess...". Through gritted teeth of course.

Gah, it drives me mad when the totals on the stats are wrong. I painstakingly go through it all to find my mistake, only to discover that I'd done it accurately.

Argh, and two players are mysteriously missing from South Melbourne in Round 1.

Oh well, I suppose they didn't expect someone to be typing it all up again 40 years down the track!

To start things off here is the missing Haw/Ess game from 1973 Rd3 and the incomplete Haw/Rich 1973 Rd7 game.
In the R3 1973 game, Leigh Matthews is widely reported to have had 38 kicks and 10 handpasses (+11 goals). Yet in the stats here he is only credited with 3 'effective' handpasses. Seems a pity not to have the full amount on the record for a game like that - up to you Paul obviously if you want to record the full amount.

I have some other bits and pieces missing that maybe you can track down before you get sick of it all. We've got lots to keep us busy for now, you've done a fantastic job. Quite frankly, I was a little sceptical at first...:D

Thanks*Paul*, happy to help any way I can. It's a great website you have.

OK, this appears to be what I'm missing post-1974. I'm assuming there aren't tackle counts lurking about for 1977 etc.
A lot of them concern the missing games you've just filled in, so probably not available, I've included them for completeness.

Is there an approximate date as to when the 1973 stats can be added into the Player and Coach Statistics section of AFL Tables?

1972 should be done today. :)

I'm on round 22 now. My poor old Swans haven't had much of a season.

It's fascinating to see the differences to modern stats, especially the high kick/handball ratio and the huge number of frees paid.

Hmmm. looking back through the thread, I'm a little confused. Crouch, are you doing 1973? I made a spreadsheet for non-windows use, but that was for 1972. I thought Donners might do 73, and croucher 1972 (via the spreadsheet), but it appears to have turned out the other way. I should have paid more attention to what was going on.
