It's not surprising he felt a strain with the coach when not getting a game and thinking he is still good enough. I personally think the game has passed him by and I'd be very surprised if another club picked him up. I wish him all the best though and he will always be a magpie to me.

A lot go out that way. Was a great player.

I'd love if he retired like Johnno and walked away a one club player but if he still has the passion to play you can't blame him, your a champ dids best of luck.

If nobody takes him (real possibility) I wonder if he will stay in Melbourne, move back to Adelaide or set up camp early in Rio de Janeiro.

Regardless of how he went out as a player, and whether we could have given him another year, he has my respect for the way he has left us. Unlike some who are shown the door when they think they have more to give he has had nothing but praise for the Club and his experience there. Wish him all the best.

I reckon the Herald Sun would have been disappointed when they interviewed Dids.

They wanted him to slag Bucks and say what a terrible coach he is etc etc but instead Dids took the classy way out and only made a small comment about not having the greatest relationship, which is understandable under the circumstances.

Will always love Alan Didak, no matter what he does next.

Which half did he waste...?

The first half, the first time he really knuckled down and got super fit was after the incident, he was superb for 2 years after that, if he only put his head down from the start he could have been an all time legend IMO.

Dids is on my jumper and I love him dearly. I can understand Bucks' decision. I don't particularly like it, but I understand it.

In the end, every game Didak got, was a game a kid like Elliott, Martin, Broomhead etc etc wouldn't get, so I understand the logic. My issue with Bucks, is that deep down he KNEW Didak wouldn't be at Collingwood next year and didn't seem to see fit to give him the opportunity to go out on his own terms.

Or at the very least give him a 1 year contract advising him that more often than not, he'd be a VFL player unless he got the absolute best out of himself and really give him that drive to brute force his way into the side and go out on top. But ultimately, Didak did something his mate Taz and even his coach didn't...win a flag. Hard to be too bummed out I guess.

coulda.. woulda.. shoulda...

The reality was he was a great premiership and a vital part of our 2010 premiership, he will always be remembered despite a really disappointing last 2-3 years of his career

No doubt, he'll always be one of my favourite players, but he didn't get the best out of himself IMO.

His knee reco happened at a bad time and he lost a lot of leg power/speed as a result.

For some players it takes longer to reach their optimum level. We always forgive ruckmen and allow them time - same applies for shorter fellas.

Using your logic you could argue Jimmy Bartel and James Kelly wasted the first part of their careers...no one is saying they aren't legends.

In the end, Dids got there and played a key role in winning a flag which is much more than you can say about a lot of other number 3 picks (Tambling, Fiora, Brennan - just to name a few). He also entertained, which even fewer players can say.

I'm happy with Didaks career, i just feel he could have been better if he worked on his fitness and strove to become a midfeilder from the beginning. i reckon he'd say that himself.

He was in Brownlow form as a mid during 08 or 09 iirc.

He played the last few games and got louder cheers then anyone's ever got just for running on the ground, it's not a real bad way to finish compared to most, and this season he played mostly VFL so no point going through it again next year.

I think that he will get a spot on a list elsewhere but I dont know if he will play many more games. Maybe like Josh Fraser. I get the feeling that his attitude now towards the end of his career is a bit like what Tarrant's was..... a realisation that retirement is approaching and he took it for granted for too long. I respect him for the fact that he completed the season and played most of his games in the VFL. He could have retired when things got hard. I get the feeling that the current Didak is a better clubman than the version a few years back. Unfortunately, he's at a club that has too many options in the area in which he specialises.

Really nice bloke Didak. Was lucky to meet him in the changerooms once. Sat down with me and had a brief chat. That was Didak - always looking for a chat. Nice bloke.

Cheers.

I think he will walk away a one club player. But it wont be by choice.
I just don't see him getting another AFL gig.
