Dirk Nowitzki vs Chris Webber

OK hypothetical - If KG had remained healthy this season and taken the Celtics to back to back titles, is he unnanimously voted the best (forgetting Duncan for the sake of this argument)?

Yes, if KG wins another title as a frontline option, I think he immediately jumps ahead of Malone and behind only Duncan.

It seems no one here rates Kevin Mchale where he should be in the best PF's of all time (has to be top 5 easily)

I don't rate Karl Malone that highly either (to be honest, he is one of the most overrated players of all time)

And laugh at me or not, but Dennis Rodman has to be 'discussed' in terms of best PF's of all time, considering he is the best rebounding and one of the greatest defensive players of all time ...

I'd rate The Worm's career ahead of Barkley's and Malone's in all honesty.

I had him top 8. That's about where he deserves to be. If you include Baylor as a PF he's probably top 9.

It's the same when rating Pippen as a SF. If he had his own team for his whole career he'd probably be second behind Bird. But he was a second option for most of it so he gets dropped a few spots.

I agree. The Mailman is over rated as hell.

Yeah he'd be lucky to be named as top 15 PF's though. I mean, quite clearly the following players are better than him overall (not in order):

1. Duncan
2. Garnett
3. Malone
4. Barkley
5. Nowitzki
6. Webber
7. McHale
8. Pettit
9. Kemp
10. Sheed
11. J O'Neal
12. Baylor (if you have him as a PF)

And there's probably around 5 or 6 in the same league as him.

I'd rate The Worm's career ahead of Barkley's and Malone's in all honesty.

Yeah ok, that's ridiculously stupid. Barkley and Malone won MVP's. Even though all they should have been won by Jordan, there is no way the Worm is finishing in the top 30 players in the league in any given year, let alone the top 5. Man, you started that post so promisingly then you just let it all go with something dumb.

From what ive personally seen, Varejao is a straight out flopper. Same as Bogut and a number of other big men, but doesnt mean he isnt a flopper.

His hair exaggerates the contact though... :p
Bogut is the best in the League at taking charges. If you can't tell the difference between what he does and the dives that the likes of Fisher/Nash do then I don't think you are very bright.

hey listen. dirk got his woman preggas. he wins

What that psycho stalker ??? I think Dirk loses on that score big time.

Anyhow C-Webb's ex ..

Rodman is definately in the discussion for great PF's of all time. What hurts him is his clear lack of scoring, defensively he's certainly up there with the best. From that list of yours, i'd comfortably take him over Kemp, Sheed and J'Oneal.

Defensively he's arguably the third best PF behind Duncan and Garnett, but JO and Sheed would make real claims to be better defenders than Rodman (remember, I'm talking about defending the low post and blocking shots, not hustle and rebounding).

But he was a non-factor on offense, I mean, I don't see how you can't factor in offense in when talking about the best PF's. Rodman is probably the best role player of all time. But everyone else on that list of PF's is someone who, in their prime, could have a team built around them.

Rodman was never more than a third option on any team, everyone else on the list has been a first option, indeed, a marquee player for their franchise.

I would say Rodman is number one on the all time rebounder list, and number one on the role player list. But in the greatest PF's he's probably lucky if he's in the top 20.

Fair argument. If you're talking about completeness of a player then yeh, i'd agree with you. However Rodman did his specialty (rebounding, defense) far better than anything that Sheed or JON did. That's why i'd take him over those two. Sure the Sheed/JON were more complete and were able to score but did they do anything great? If you were putting a team together and the only players left on the board were JON/Sheed and Rodman most would take Rodman in a heartbeat.

Both Sheed and JO were top level post defenders, great rebounders and great shotblockers.

Both JO and Sheed were the centrepieces in teams that really should have won a title. They could both score, shoot, rebound, block shots and most importantly they were both excellent post defenders.

Neither of them hustled or rebounded as well as Rodman, he was a specialist, like all role players. But they were both much better shooters, scorers, defenders (well probably not MUCH better, but definitely better), shot blockers and passers. They were franchise guys, and its very hard to compare a role player (even the best of them) to guys like that, even if their primes weren't overly long.

I would say a prime Elton Brand or a prime McDyess you could maybe make a case considering Rodman's longevity, but still, if you were building a team you'd take either of those guys ahead of Rodman.
