Was lucky enough to attend training in the mid 1980s which included knocking about inside the rooms, and Roachy was the friendliest and most endearing on the day.

Top bloke and played through alot of physical pain for our club.

Wish him all the best.

Yeah, thanks Roger Merrett
Disco's career ended prematurely because of him!

For a Richmond fan of a certain age Disco was most likely our first footy hero. Hard to believe these heroes are now mortal.

Get well soon Disco.
I'm of that vintage. Disco's number 8 is the only number I've ever had on a jumper. And his is one of the only two autographs I've got.

Never saw him play but was lucky enough to meet him and a couple others last year in Adelaide at the casino. He stuck around with me and a mate for a while and we had a good chat. Was awesome!

Fingers crossed for Roachy that’s for sure!

I met him at McEwans I think that was the name sport part when he first started with us. Went to get a Richmond jumper and wanted Geoff Raines. number 4. The guy said why don't you get this guy's number? I looked up and this young giant smiling and saying leave the kid alone. He was tall and can't forget he had these real red chicks. Really polite down to earth guy, get well soon mate.

He started in a team losing ground to teams like Hawthorn,Collingwood,Carlton and North and then played in those strong sides of 80 and 82.

He would often get us unexpected wins against teams in the mid eigthies with big hauls but he then finished in a struggling team and often found himself at full back.

He is well known as a nice guy and I wore the number eight on my duffle coat. So did so many.

Great news that he seems on the mend. Glad he got to see his son play some games with us.

McEwans was a hardware chain back then. Do you mean Merrett Hassett. I met him in there at Doncaster Shopping town. He was with Micky Conlan and Murray Weidemans son.

No I'm pretty sure it was Mcwans. Remember the sport section was in a little room down stairs. Nah to young never traveled far from the city.

my enduring memory of Roach was as a skinny kid playing on the wing
and maybe rose coloured glasses or distorted memory he quickly owned the position

Think you mean the Melbourne Sports Depot or MSD as it was better known.
I met him in the downstairs part as well buying a footy.
Decent bloke.
Might be right so long ago. The thought of me remebering him with my illness must have had a lasting memory.
