Has anybody played this one yet?

I picked it up today and reached up to level 15 (I don't know how many missions there are) and I am liking the game! I wasn't a huge fan of previous DMC games (which may or may not be why I like this game) but decided to give this a go.

It reminds me a bit of Darksiders in terms of gameplay. The weapons remind me of the ones from that game. The story is actually quite cool and the boss battles look awesome (are generally easy but I'm only playing on normal) I love Dante's persona and have found the game interesting story wise.

Thoughts?

Always loved the DMC series. Was initially fussed about the rebooted look of Dante but he's grown on me. Sure, he doesn't have white hair and is built like a girl but the core DMC gameplay mechanics are present which is what makes DMC DMC.

I absolutely love it. I'm up to mission 13 or so but so far the story is intriguing and love the combat! Highly recommend :thumbsu: One complaint is that I find reaching SSS far easier in this one compared to other DMC's (although I am only playing on normal difficulty)

Gonna get this ASAP, hearing quite a few good things about it. Also, if you are a DMC veteran, I hear that it's best to start on the highest difficulty available as the normal difficulty is way too easy, like I said especially if you have played the previous games.

I've been playing DMC 4 and have been enjoying it. I'm a little worried about dmc's lack of lock-on though. Even as a complete noob, using lock-on to crowd control with your pistols whilst finding the gaps to let off the appropriate combo is really satisfying. I'm not sure what use the guns will even be if I can't distinctly choose where to fire them.

I love the look the backgrounds though. It looks miles beyond the static, boring scenes I've seen so far 4 hours into DMC4.

At first I thought no lock on was a big issue but once you start playing, you quickly realise using the analog stick to aim is actually pretty effective. Only real problem is needing to use the right analog (camera) and adjust it during a fight so you can see the flying enemies.

Got this yesterday and am absolutely loving it. Playing on Nephilim first up and am glad I did so cos it is a bit of a challenge although easy in some parts. looking forward to unlocking Son of Sparda difficulty and the subsequent difficulties.

Overall, I am finding it a very decent DMC game; I played 4 but didn't finish it, and played all the others with DMC3 being my favourite. I had misgivings about this before it came out, but once I started playing it I knew I would love it, and I do.

This is the sort of game that blisters your thumbs after pulling mad SSS rank combos for hours straight, especially on the harder difficulties. And some of these challenge rooms are bloody hardcore.

Pleasantly surprised with this, and it looks great too.

I bought it from GMG for $37. Am downloading now on Steam though I don't know if I should try and finish DMC4 first. I'm looking forward to it either way.

Game looks killer, the demo was pretty good I'll track this down in the coming weeks.

Yeah it is pretty killer. have you played the other games in the series? If so, I really recommend playing on the hardest available difficulty at the start (Nephilim), otherwise it's too easy. I know a few people who started on the normal difficulty (I think it's Demon Hunter) and finished it in 7 hours thereabouts. I started on Nephilim and am on Chapter 16 (out of 20 chapters) and have 15.5 hours up, which includes all the challenge rooms so far.

Keep in mind too that a new game + mode is important after you finish the game cos you can go back to previously unnaccessible areas to unlock secrets/challenge rooms, etc.

Finished it. Liked it.

The art design was pretty phenomenal and the combat system kind of felt like an evolved and much improved take on God of War's except for one glaring error in its design; The decision to colour-code certain enemies was a poor one. It wouldn't be so bad if your weapon didn't rebound off and break the flow of combat if you don't hit the enemy with the wrong weapon, but it does and its highly annoying.

Other than that Dante was an extremely likeable protagonist, the story was mostly engaging and had me eager to see what was coming next, though both the story and level design somewhat faltered in the last few levels of the game. The platforming is pretty much automated and a non-challenge similar to Uncharted and like Uncharted is made enjoyable because of the quality of the environments you are traversing through.

I was pretty happy overall with the purchase and would happily recommend it to God of War fans, though obviously traditional hardcore DMC fans will likely (and often do) find the whole thing pretty repulsive. This isn't a hardcore combo game that you need to put hours into in order to look like a god, its just a pretty, artistically creative and enjoyable take on the more casual side of the genre.

Haven't gotten far yet, but I was completely pissed off by the lack of hidden trophies. Scrolled through the trophies to see what I was up against before I started, only to find that the story-related trophies with spoilers blatantly in them were in plain view. There was a trophy that was just sitting there with the caption "Defeat _______" (hidden for spoiler's sake, those who have played the game will know what I'm talking about). That's what the hidden trophy function is there for ffs.

On the lighter side, I'm enjoying the game so far. Was a huge fan of DmC before this, so was a little hesitant, but they've really done a brilliant job.

Loved the first 3 but never got through the 4th one as it was pretty boring and repetitive.

Is this one any different?
Well the combat is basically the same throughout the 5. If you thought it was the combat that was repetitive then you might wanna give this one a miss.

If you only found 4 boring because of the back tracking through the game again with Dante, then you'll probably enjoy this one. Although I'm only up to mission 14 or so, I'm thoroughly enjoying the game (mind you I also enjoyed 4 :p)

This one is a bit different; no backtracking (unless you replay previous levels to access previously unaccessible areas), and I found there was enough in it to avoid a heap of repetition, ie, combat stages broken up by platforming sections, hidden challenges, etc.

I felt the same way about DMC4; didn't really mind it, but the repetitive nature of it, the backtracking, and fighting the same bosses kind of soured the experience for me. This one has good boss fights and some very tight gameplay. Give it a shot.

Did not like it at all. The combat is a little unbalanced in that there are just some moves that are flat out more powerful then others, the storyline is a rehash of the fourth title but with social media as a key facet of the story as opposed to religion, Dante himself is an annoying shit that doesn't really capture any of the casual silliness of previous games & the camera is absolute shit.

I'll give it this though, it's a gorgeous looking game. Ninja Theory are good at putting out great looking games but their gameplay is generally pretty average. I only wish that Platinum Games could have been handed the reigns because they are the undisputed kings of flashy brawlers.

This game is getting a re-release on PS4 and Xbox One in March. I haven't played the reboot yet and now I might as well wait for the remastered version. In the meantime I'm playing the Devil May Cry HD collection.
