Watching Frontier In Space tonight, an underrated, cracking space oprea that really lifts of once the late and much missed Roger Delgado's Master shows up and unexpectedly saves the Doctor's bacon (in a manor of speaking)

In hindsight it's tragic and very sad that this is Roger Delgado's final story/appearance before his tragic death in Turkey, but from his Master's perspective, satisfying that his Master beat/defeated The Doctor in this story (from a narrative perspective)

Love all of Malcolm Hulke's stories (even the ones he co-wrote)

So sad he died at an early age, he had a promising Fourth Doctor Script brewing before he passed away apparently.

There's kind of an odd anomaly with the cast of the UNIT era of the show in the 1970s when compared to the 1960s era of Hartnell and Troughton, in that at the time of posting only three main cast members of this era - Tom Baker, Katy Manning and John Levene - are still alive. Jon Pertwee, Nicholas Courtney, Richard Franklin, Caroline John, Elizabeth Sladen, Ian Marter and Roger Delgado have all passed away. Yet of the main cast members in the 1960s, more than half are still alive today.

Joy To The World - Xmas Special

Twee is a word that comes to mind - not only for this episode - but most of Gatwas run so far

I did like the theme of loneliness especially at this time of year and especially for those - like the Doctor - who have lost someone recently

I liked the drive by of Boris Johnson and co

Gatwa cries again

But ultimately the resolution is weak and I spotted the twist early.

It was very sentimental even by Christmas special standards, but I enjoyed it. I liked the Trev character and was a bit disappointed he didn't get a bit more time. Some nice lines.

Yeah I know what you mean. The bright colours the show is deploying at the moment are a bit Myer Christmas catalogue. I think my favourite episodes have been where they've turned the palette down a bit (Boom, 72 Yards).

Vale Doctor Who Icon Christopher Benjamin

Loved him in Inferno as Sir Keith Gold, and he was great in Unicorn And The Wasp, but he will be mosty fondly remembered and adored as the amazing Henry Gordon Jago from Talons of Weng-Chiang

images

I have a couple of the Jago and Litefoot BF boxset audio's (with the late Trevor Baxter) they are brilliant.

They also popped up in a couple of audio's with my favourite Doctor Colin Baker.

We have lost one of the most beloved character actors in the shows long history.

I know many fans have (rightfully imo) issues with Talons, esp with regards to accusations of racism, but Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter's performances are simply above reproach, Jago and Litefoot, one of Doctor Who's greatest ever double acts.

DT a big fan of The Proclaimers

The Daily Record and The Scotsman have reported on the sleevenotes written by David Tennant for The Very Best Of The Proclaimers album which was released on Monday.
In the notes David says that he has idolised the band, made up of twins Charlie and Craig, since he was a 16 year old "geeky music fan"

He walked down the aisle with Georgia to the Proclaimers song Life With You

Not going to lie, very disappointed Ncuti Gatwa is leaving after the next series, although probably to be expected.

Future of the series does appear a bit shaky atm
Source? The Sun????

The Sun has followed up its' 'exclusive' story by claiming David Tennant will return to the role to help 'set things right'..

I don't think pausing it would be the worst thing, it's hard to get the momentum back. I've really enjoyed Gatwa though for what it's worth.

That is the worst possible thing that could happen ugh

Well apart from the paper thin plot I enjoyed that

A lot more meat to this bone - a nice explanation around time flexs and how Mundy Flynn is a vital cog (which I recognise is against opening line)

K9 is back
The certificate was easy to spot as the plot device
I saw through the Wizard of Oz reference very early
Ncutis cries - bingo
Pushback on Ncuti by Varada Sethu was on point
Ncuti shrugs it off though
Actress playing Sasha 55 nailed the scared inside look
Every 9th word was interesting and once you realise you think damn I have to rewatch

A couple of more spoilers/highlights/issues

The cat dies - bit of a shock that they would do this but its RTDs shortcut to explaining the robots mean business

Mrs Flood appears

Which is odd because then Belinda is a neighbour of Ruby Sunday and when they met Mundy Flynn - Ruby didnt recognise the similarity to Belinda

How did Belinda know to call it a TARDIS

Didn't enjoy that much. The Belinda character at no point came across as a real person. RTD has never had Moffat's skill for sharp funny dialogue, he really shouldn't go there. Ultimately it was paper thin romp that was meant to be background to introduce a new character, but then she presented mostly as a cartoon.

Lux was magnificent. An easy 10/10 and maybe the best/strongest episode of the Ncuti Gatwa era so far.

No spoilers but Alan Cumming really is such an amazing and talented guest star/actor.

Most of the online/critical reviews of Lux seem overwhelmingly positive too which is great.

Great start to the new season so far !!!
