Not because of the huge loss today but looking in terms of the pies winning a flag in the next few years Malthouse contract runs out and the end of next year or 2010, he has been at the club since 2000 so that would have given him 9-10 years to win one and he has been close but we never remember 2nd, what is the opinion of the faithful does he get another couple of years to build a team that will see the likes of Pendles, Thomas, Cloke, Brown and others hit there peak in the next 5 years or does the likes of a Nathan Buckley come in and take over cos I think they could win one within 5 years, he does deserve one more flag he brings the best out of a footballer and it would be sad for Mick not to hold the cup one more time. THOUGHTS

I've never liked him, let me say that.

But now I don't think he can get us a premiership, maybe his contract is based on players per possessions as we seem to be playing a possession game. He issues players with demands for X amount of posies or they play VFL footy....... Board issues Coach for X amount of posies as proof of his ability or he doesn't have a Job.

I actually thought there was not alot of difference in the 22 blokes taking the field for each team. I think our forward line was probably a big standout, but really I thought micks gameplan and collingwoods tactics were the biggest rpoblem for Collingwood today.

They would chip around the boundary line into attack. Really negative footy.

The worst thing was though that they would get it along the boundary and then STOP just outside 50, and hold the ball for 30+ seconds, waiting for the option to come. In the meantime our boys would have heaps of time to push back and stop any chance of scoring.

I actually like collingwood and would like them to succeed. I absolutely loved the game last year. But the tactics for that game and this one were miles apart. I think that Mick doens't have any faith in his players, and it is time for him to go.

That said. I don't know who you could replace him with.

time to move on, too stubbon with his "best team is the best one on one team" thing and pesists with it even if our backs are getting arse r*ped

Do what you want but if Collingwood was silly enough to sack Malthouse he'd get another job practically overnight. The guy is one of the top coaches in the league, and he's not the reason you aren't in the top 4. He's the reason why you aren't in the bottom four.

Whats Dennis Pagan, Kevin Sheedy, Barrassi ect ect doing these days..........

He'd get a job instantly. St Kilda and Freo would chase him, while the AFL would offer him a blank check to get him up to the Gold Coast.

Malthouse is no Denis Pagan and Collingwood would be fools to let him go. It'll never happen while Eddie is President.

Not a troll just an observation and my opinion. You guys have always had a huge disadvantage in being the most popular team.Newspapers know that anything ,particularly anything positive about the magpies sells newspapers by the 100,000's for that reason they always right up Collingwood even when it is not warranted.Unfortunately a lot of that publicity is believed by supporters and more importantly i think by some players and this can mask problems that aren't rectified. It happened to us a few years ago too when in the early 2000's they were saying we had a show of winning a flag when in fact we were totally inept.

As much as it pains me to say it, this carlton supporter hit the nail on the F*&#ing head.

Malthouse is here to stay, coaches are only human, they make mistakes just like players do.

He'll get us into finals this year, and to a flag within the next few years, no doubt.

Yes he gets another contract. We've been poor in a couple of games this year, but we have a good coach, and I've not seen anything from any other assistant coach out there, McKenna included, to suggest that they could do any better.

Malthouse was a great coach but does need to go. He and Leigh Matthews are from the old school and are the last two coaches of that type left. Malthouse is desperate to win a flag for Collingwood but also for his own preservation. He is killing our chances continuing to play the older players instead of biting the bullet and doing a Hawthorn or Carlton. Play the young ones teach them the game at AFL level and be prepared to sacrifice some games to do it. Call this year a "rebuildiing year" and teach the kids.
Guy McKenna would be a great choice he is closer in age to some of the players and has played alot more recently and is up to speed with the modern game. Malthouse's old fashion way of coaching is not doing it. You can't put kids up for one game opening abuse them when they make mistakes and threaten everyone with going back to the VFL. That shit doesn't work nowadays.

I cant believe we are talking about it. Yesterday was horrible and none of us should be happy with it but come on. What has MM done wrong this year we are playing a lot of kids at the moment and i agree there are some guys who aren't going to take us to the next level but we cant just throw all the kids in the deep end. We got to one kick away from the Grand final last year but with a lot of young guys we are going to have days like this from time to time. All the side do it Geelong Hawthorn on the way have been belted. I would love to have Reid Dawes and co playing but if their not ready don't play them. MM is the best going around most of us would have said this at the start of the year . Four bad loses (Brisbane&North we should have won) doesn't change that our side might not be ready yet not saying we cant win big games but we are not where Geelong and Hawthorn are at the moment. All our best players are young H.Shaw Cloke Pendlebury Thomas are all early 20's some even younger and its going to take time before they get to the stage where they dominate week in week out and MM is the best to take us there.

I like to see Guy McKenna Have a Go:thumbsu:

I wouldn't he would only regurgatate what mick is doin as mick is all he has ever known, I'd love to get G.O'donnel (sp?) who played under sheeds and was assistant to LM during the lions 3-peat. He was a good player and it has been said by LM and Sheeds he has a great footy brain, he would have a great knowledge by being under both of them.

On MM i would give him till the end of his contract and assess where we are at and if a change is needed.

Although is it very early in the season, all us armchairs experts bring out the knives when we get belted. The end of the season will be a better indication if MM should stay or go. Having said that, what is it that determines success of a team or a coach. For the record: "Appointed at the start of the 2000 season to the Collingwood Football Club, Malthouse took charge of a team that had not been in finals contention for five years, and had finished with the wooden spoon in 1999. Collingwood were runners-up for two consecutive years (2002-2003) with bitter defeats to power-house side the Brisbane Lions. Final minor premiership ladder positions to date for Collingwood have been 15th, 9th, 4th, 2nd, 13th, 15th, 5th and 6th (2000-2007)."

Now in his ninth year as coach without a Premiership, is this sufficient time to determine a coach's worth? One thing that has bugged me a long time with MM is his game play of going wide down the flanks and wings and ingoring the corridor. If an opposing team applies enough pressure we get pushed further into the boundary line and eventually cough up the ball. At least playing the corridor a team has the option of going either left or right and a better statistical chance of keeping possession. Any decent opposition coach will see this weakness and exploit it. It is frustrating no end to see teams running it through the centre in numbers of 2, 3 and 4 players because of either foolish turnovers or tactical errors.

I think MM should stay for now.. But looking from a development point of view the stats say we were older and wiser

yesterday, though lighter and skinnier. Our players live in a gym, (which probably explains why we can't kick) so why don't we have bigger bodies. The attributes don't indicate we are neither in front or behind as a team. So it can only be ability. There is no substitute for skill.
Back to MM, i would love to see an ex attacking midfielder as assistant coach, not a defender (mckenna), or an ex forward at least to help curve our negative chip around the fence game. If the "chip chip" continues, so will my thoughts on retaining MM..

I put it down to the type of weights work , the players aren't actually that strong. I get the feeling they are doin more repitious work and not enough power excersices, also if you overtrain the muscle actually starts to eat itself.

I hope Bucks does his apprenticeship at another club 1st, we should be looking at Mark Williams and Gary O'donnell as next coach.
Mark Williams would be great ex pie captain and proven coach that likes his teams to play hard attacking brand of footy.

I don't think Choco would leave Port(Unless Sacked) but O'Donnel would be a Good Coach

NO!!!

If Malthouse doesn't have a premiership by the end of his contract.... NO WAY we should give him another contract. Nearly 10 years and no cups!

Time for a change.... take a punt on someone like Hawthorn did with Clarkson. In saying that I would love Mark Williams from Port to be our coach. He won't put up with the s*** we are seeing this year.
