Dogga!!!

Before the game Ben Hart said it came down to Doughty or Shirley at the selection table, so I think Shirley could find it hard to break into this week's sqaud (unless Jericho comes out or something)

Antoher fantastic game by Doughty. I hope all of his knockers come out and say the same!

Terrific game by Doughty.

Thought him backing up the ruck by second tapping the ball was brilliant. Well done.

Every week there are calls from posters to replace Doughty with some pimply faced recruit who is still about 2 years away from playing AFL footy.

Interestingly enough, Dogga is one of the few players I've seen that's turned himself around from being regarded as softish to a hard courageous fearless AFL player.

Craigy would love him, and with good reason. :thumbsu:

I think me calling for him to be delisted has been well documented.

My thoughts are this:

He has been exceptional. His problems last year are no longer problems this year. He's never going to be a superstar, but players like him are the difference between us and Port. Wouldn't CONSIDER dropping him, and is easily in our 22. Fights for the guernsey that is coloured blue, red and gold.

However, he isn't our future, and is dispensible like Torney was about 6 months ago. I'd still give him this year and maybe next.

Exceeded every expectation I have had of him this year, and I admire him very, very much.

Unfortunately a few guys might not come up after tonights game. Shirls will probably get a look in.

Yes, yes, very good game from dogga, i have been critical of him, I won't shy away from that, one thing I have never questioned is his attack on the ball and that is something the filth should watch and learn from, he is as tough as nails this bloke, but it is always at the ball, never this catch em whilst their not looking bs you get from Brogan and co, but hey, what can you expect from a guy who king hits crows supporters in airports. Back on topic, if Doughty plays like this for the rest of the year, he should definitely get another one.

Doughty played a great game and deserves the praise. However the main argument about Doughty has been that he is only ever going to be a "servicable" player with the odd exception as was the case today. If we had a full squad, with Knights and Reilly fit, who would you drop? The players who might make way would be either Douglas, Vince, McKay or Symes. We have seen over the last few games tremendous development and good games from all of these players, culminating in Vinces game today. Just think with a full squad he may never have been given that opportunity. By the way I dont think any of these guys have pimples. Ultimately its Doughty or Shirley, you cant fit both in.

I have been a doubter of the young one. however I thought he as great in the Pre season cup, really played as if his place in the side was on the line.

I agree with Smoovy, loved it when he took it up to Cornes.

As i said after last weeks game, he has found his niche as a defensive midfielder who, this week more than last week, can still accumulate possessions.

Inspired selection to not bring in Shirley for Doughty.

As for next week, out of Bassett, Massie, Jericho, Porplyzia who will miss?

I reckon the first 3 will miss which is a real headache for us down back as i love both Mass and Bass.

One would think against the Hawks that Stevens may need to stay back with Rutten, Bock, Johncock, McLeod and maybe Symes. Yet another week we are missing Moran.

Campbell should come in for Jericho/Massie.

Otten would be a chance.

Also, given his size and the position he played for West on the weekend, is there any chance Dangerfield will be able to take a day off studying and make his debut?

Maybe with the Hawks height, we could squeeze Maric in? Having said that, he was beaten by the Hawk rucks convinvingly in the NAB and if Tippett is a permanent forward then Kenny is not required given his current output. On the flipside Maric's average ruckwork against a second-string South line up was a lowlight compared with his excellent forward work in that game. Line-ball but to limit the changes, I'd keep the status quo in this regard and let Maric keep slugging it out in the SANFL.

If Campbell comes in, i see no room for Shirley.

Assuming no other blokes returning from injury, I'd go:

Out: Bassett, Massie, Jericho (all injured)
In: Campbell, Otten, Dangerfield.

Out: Bassett, Massie, Jericho (all injured)
In: Campbell, Otten, Dangerfield.

That's a lot of experience being replaced by absolute rookies. Bassett has 190 games, Massie 121 and Jericho 28. Replaced by Campbell 1, Otten 0 & Dangerfield 0.

Keep in mind that we already have a LOT of youngsters playing at the moment - not the least of which are Tippett (3 games) and Mackay (3).

I'd be inclined to go with at least a little more experience.

Campbell would be a definite inclusion, his form for Norwood has been outstanding. Similarly, Otten would come in on the back of good SANFL form. Last one in is a toss-up between Maric & Shirley. Shirley offers experience and a calm, steady head. Maric gives us some height which we are losing with Bassett gone from defence.

Dangerfield did well enough in the SANFL, but still has a way to go before he's ready for the AFL. If nothing else, his fitness still needs to improve as every account I've read said that he ran out of steam in the second half.

Dogga opitimised toughness

Take note Power players, thats hardness, thats toughness, not playing the man, but putting your body on the line to get the ball.

I think basset wil pull up. he was up and about at the end of the game. Missing weeks through concussion is generally only precautionary and if they are really bad. Bassets could probably be classed as pretty bad but there will be nothing physically stopping him from playing this week, as may be the case with out other injuries.

Mass and Jericho will miss for sure. I think griffen will be right. Porpys shoulder will be an interesting one. If he has had a subluxation (pop out and go back in himself) he will either need a couple of weeks or play with injections until he gets his range of motion back, assuming is restricted

Only difference i would have above would be maric instead of Dangerfield. Although Ivan is not tearing it up in terms of possesion, his hit out stats and forward prescence ha been more than servicable.

Back on topic tho, Dogga had a great game yesterday. Keep up the good work young fella. Deserves the praise he has been recieving

i can't believe rhys palmer got the rising star nomination this week! didn't they see dogga's efforts in the showdown?

I seriously doubt we will bring in Otten AND Dangerfield?!? Did some people hit it too hard on the weekend? Two more young players into the mix? We would get spanked then I reckon.

Otten is at least a month away from being ready probably more. I pray he doesnt play in the first round because there are a lot of knockers out there who would pick him to pieces for not being a readymade superstar, up to there lofty standards. If being in the best in his first two league games and collecting 50 plus touches is not good enough what would be expected of Andy in his first few AFL games. Shield him form the Knockers until he is ready to make his mark. He has already exceeded my expectations this year. Would love our other rookies to get in the best 2 games in a row in a league side.
