Reid in February last year finally approved the use of AOD9604 after Dank provided information about its origins, safety, efficacy and status under WADA. In his testimony to ASADA, Reid admitted he was not personally shown the correspondence from ASADA that Dank relied on to prove AOD9604 did not break anti-doping rules

And doctors usually avoid court process like the plague.
 
You know, it is a horrible thing to say but dr Reid is probably the most culpable party in this whole affair
In the end, whilst his letter displays his concern it also damns him for not acting. He more than anyone is educated and responsible to know the consequences. A mere letter was horribly inadequate.

Hird, Corcoran, Thompson etc can be excused to a degree out of sheer ignorance.

Throwing the book at the doctor would more than any other action ensure this kind of crap never happens again

Depends on who ends up in the witness box, who says what, and who is bearing a grudge.

I wonder if Mr Burnside might be doing some pro bono work? As he said in his interview with 3AW the other night "I've fought a lot of interesting cases.... this one was shaping up to be amongst the more exciting of them." He might still be able to get excited.

Afl doctors are professional and beyond reproach. So much so, that afl have yet to investigate our claim of an illegal act.

The witnesses are waiting but are yet to be contacted.

Well how is the young guy going to get better if the 68 yr old is taking the job? 2 jobs in fact! The young ones need practise. 68 -comon he has probs been working for 45 years -enough already. Good luck to him and I appreciate his work ethic and by all reports he is a good dr( ?) but time and tide waits for no man. The middle class oldies are on v. good wickets here-enjoy. Get a caravan and head to Cairns.

There is plenty of work for young doctors. There is a shortage of doctors in the outer suburbs and rural areas. Essendon isn't a full time job. That's why no clubs employ doctors full time. There isn't enough work. Plus plenty of doctors have 2 or 3 practices and travel and work between them and ruck up a lot more than 37.5 hrs a week. Doctors from the start of their working life in hospitals are used to long hours.

You don't get rid of very good experienced people just because they have hit a certain age if you have half a brain. This you have to stop work at 65 is BS. If you do a job that requires brain power and not muscle power you can work into your 80's. Judges around Australia are forced to retire at 70 or 72 depending on the jurisdiction. But who do governments call in to head up royal commissions, independent inquiries, reviews etc?? Retired judges who have experience and brain power.

I don't think this is about defending himself in court at this time. He requested (as his apparently his right) to have the charge heard by an independent person (eg a retired supreme court judge). The AFL Commission refused and he is going to court to have that right decided. If the court finds it can be heard by an independent person (under the AFL rules), it will probably still be a private hearing. I don't think we are going to hear anymore of the nitty gritty.

Hopefully, there will be a process of discovery, in which Reid's lawyer subpoenas phone records and emails of all AFL employees, commissioners etc, to establish whether there have been leaks to the press, in support of the contention that the AFL has run the investigation with an agenda and a predetermined outcome, and is thereby not fit to adjudicate on Reid's hearing.

I would love to see if Vlad has Caroline Wilson on his fast dial! And I wonder how many phone calls were made to Evans before the press conference in February. Could get quite interesting.

Despite all you guys predicting dire consequences for Essendon, I don't see any real problems.
Probably reflects our different points of view ie conspiracy theorists, Hird the arch villain and liar etc etc, versus EFC and Hird have been honest and acted with principle all along.

It is tearing opposition fans apart that Essendon supporters haven't turned on everyone in sight.
It just isn't how it works at Essendon.
Hard to understand for the ferals at Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton, I know, but there it is.
