So in the wash up of our trade week dealings, what picks have we ended up with??..
and what type of players should we be looking at recruiting into the Fremantle Football Club?

Is anyone NOT happy with the club acquiring the services of Faulk, Tzungu & Griffen ??

They all sound good on paper, think we'll still have to wait and see how they step up. Look the goods though.

Im am extactic with the recruiting staff these last 2 years. :thumbsu: up for Chris Bond!

My only worry was to lose Taz for nothing, but we made sure of getting a half decent pick for him. Not sure about swapping 44 for 43... Maybe we somehow convinced those nuffhead Collingwoods managers that 44 is SOOO much better to have than 43. :p

Im presuming the way things will work is the 3 first picks 20, 43 and 55 will be used for young recruits (for the 2013-14 premiership team :D) and any other late picks go to upgrade rookies.

If Sibosado and Sheppard are the only Rookies on our list currently, who gets added to this in 2011 to be elevated?

I am happy with the trade week from Freo.

Gotta say that Harves and Scott were spot on in saying that they are going to go for Mids and Fwds in the draft. Obviously they were working on getting the KPD's (which everyone was saying we needed - myself included) during trade week

very pleased with the new additions. the hole left by taz is potentially filled by faulks and our ruck is shored up with the addition of griffin. agree with palmvervich that we should look at a KPF to help out pav and an inside mid. not sure who else we need that we don't already have. maybe another one percenter like deboer, but hopefully van berlo steps up. the further development of our existing list is something very much to look forward to.

That was not a half decent pick, don't kid yourself. We lost a lot of ground against our strongest rival on the balance of that trade.

If we were in 14th spot in a state of rebuild that comment would have merit, but as we are not and we are looking for ways to gain ground on our rivals, this was a bad loss.

I think since we missed out on getting a KF in trade week we'll stretch and go early to pick the best available KF prospect at pick 20, then go for a small and a utility.

My tips for our draft are;

Cook - KP
Sinclair - KF/ruck
Grenfell - KF/ruck
Hamp - KP
Michie - flank/mid
Conca - mid
Newton - FP/mid
Mullett - mid/flank
Butcher - mid
Browne - ute/KD
McInnes - KP/ute
----------------------------------------------
ROOKIE
Batchelor - ute, possible GC
Potts - mid, possible GC
Chalwell - KP/ruck
Smith - ruck
Curley - flank
Phillips - flank
Grover - mid
Jones - ruck
Murphy - mid

I'm still hoping for Parker at 20 but I really do think we'll go tall with our first pick.

Little disappointed with the outcome of the Tarrant trade, really would have liked to have gotten John/Jack Anthony for him, with him at full forward we would of had eliminated our biggest weakness in a 2nd tall forward. But overall i'm fairly happy, like the look of Faulks and Mzungu and the addition of Griffin gives us alot more ruck depth, however not having seen much of Griffin and with the new substitute rules i do query whether he will be in our best 22.

We need mids. Lots of them. I'd hoped we'd get one during trade week as short term cover for Barlow because it's unlikely he can quickly return to his best, the injury was too serious.

Plus, other than Jesse we don't any mids in development. Even if Clancee does come good it will be more likely as a small forward.

Based on the fact we gave up Tarrant and a R2 pick downgrade for Faulks, Mzungu and Griffin, you'd have to say we did reasonably well overall.

But I'm a bit meh over it all TBH. Despite their obvious credentials, the jury has to be out on Faulks, Mzungu and Griffin, so at worst we probably just trod water. Losing Tarrant hurts, but we had plenty of practice there in the second half of this season...

Recruiting strategy? Best available, but a burly KPP would be nice.

We filled 3 needs.

KPB with VFL full back of the year, who can play now.
Ruck with Griffin...who will be invaluable if Sandi goes down for any length of time...
HBF in Mzungu who can run through the midfield but also allow Broughton to play as a mid as needed...so we get a midfielder too...for a 5 slot down grade.

We can also go 2 mids and a KPF with our first picks, and then go nuts in the rookie draft...

I'm not complaining

Still not convinced we needed Griffin but happy with pick 61 to get him.
Would like to see us load up on young midfielders in the draft, although happy to back in our recruiters whatever they do

Happy as Larry !
I'm told some of the coaches are a bit suss on Faulksy's kicking, but they can work on that.
Stoked with the Perth boy, I reckon he'll play a few next year at least.
Got to be happy with Freo at the moment !

Mzungu may be worth half a one :) out of the three I reckon he's the most likely to walk straight into the starting team which will free up Broughton for the midfield where he's looked fairly comfortable this season. I really like Broughton in defense as well so will be interesting to see what develops but it certainly makes him more available for the midfield.

Overall I'm stoked with the trade week. Got screwed on Tarrant, was always going to, we're hardly the first club to get little for an out of contract player and personally I'm happy the club got what it could. Like I said I'm keen to see Mzungu play, havent seen him this year but certainly kept hearing the name often enough on the radio and Griffin is good back up. I'm still hoping that Clarke will make some big gains this season and keep Griffin as a third option but either way imo we can't push Sandi as hard again next year and hope he stays fit. I know the knee was a contact injury but I still think a week off earlier will help him finish the year stronger.

If Faulks is also ready for regular football down back with Silvagni and Mcpharlin we're already looking good. Just need Grover to sign on for one more go.

That's all well and good, but there was really nothing stopping Taz going to Collingwood ... all the 'redraft/force to retire' talk etc. was just BF hot air. In the real world it would not suit anybody including us to pull that sort of move. Having said that, I still think Collingwood would have been fairer to give us that 43 outright - but meh, he was moments away for going for free which would have made our third pick pick 70 something instead of pick 55. We lost, but not badly. I'll take it in the end of the day.

As for the players. I'm very happy in that they've basically entered our list for free. I'll be stoked if one of Faulks or Mzungu come good. I'm happy with Griffin too. Though the stupid new sub rule means he will be of less value now. BUT, if he can give us 2-3 serviceable games where Sandi gets to rest-up and maybe a couple more as a backup with Sandi, then I'll call it a win and then some.

How does it work with the traded guys and upgraded rookies from last year? Do we need to upgrade some of our rookies via the draft - like DeBoer? Does Griffen, Faulks (already listed on our senior player list on our website), Mzunga need to be a draft pick? If so we have 8 picks in total, how many will we have to get some young blood.

So far we have retired/de-listed/traded: Haz, Thorton, Solomon, Tarrant, Headland and Hall

I think we upgraded : Vanberlo, Pearce, Barlow, Silvagni and DeBoer from rookie list last year so if they are staying on senior list and assuming the three guys we traded in are all on the senior list does that mean we have no picks left in the main draft, or can we use the pre-season draft to upgrade rookies etc

Does anybody know how it works??

We essentially got Faulks, Mzungu and Griffin for 72, 89, 106 (or something along those lines, depending on our Rookie upgrades) and a 5 pick downgrade at the tail end of the 2nd round. I don't think any clubs will get better value with picks even remotely close to those.

Bit disappointed that the club accepted the Tarrant deal with a good half an hour left, I feel if we milked a little more time off the clock, Collingwood accept our terms, or we could even have known of Cbecome aware ollingwoods pick 45, which would have impacted the final deal. It's kind of splitting hairs, but I think if your going to hold out for a better deal, then the action really doesn't start until the last hour. Waiting longer would only have worked in our favour.

Other than that minor hiccup, where we couldn't really do much anyway, I'm pretty/very happy with the outcome.

I posted this in another thread.

Currently our list changes are:
IN: Faulks, Mzungu, Griffin, van Berlo (rookie list), Barlow (rookie list), Silvagni (rookie list), DeBoer (rookie list)
OUT: Tarrant, Solomon, Hall, Thornton, Haselby, Headland, Murphy, O'Brien

So our list currently looks like this;

1. Ballantyne

5. Broughton
6. Suban
7. McPhee
8. Palmer
9. Fyfe
10. Crowley

12. Houghton
13. McPharlin
14. Hinkley
15. Mayne
16. Roberton
17. Dodd
18. Bradley
19. Bollenhagen
20. Pavlich
21. Clarke
22. Sandilands
23. Hill
24. Bucovaz
25. Ruffles
26. Johnson
27. Walters
28. Duffield
29. Hayden
30. Crichton
31. Faulks
32. Mzungu
33. Griffin
34. Barlow - rookie upgrade - Pick 43
35. DeBoer - rookie upgrade - Pick 72
36. Silvagni - rookie upgrade - Pick 89
37. van Berlo - rookie upgrade - Pick 55
38. Pick 20

Veterans List - Up to 2 Players

2. Rookie upgrade at beginning of season

Rookie List - 6 Players
1. Sibosado
2. Pearce

5. Rookie Selection
6. Rookie Selection

If any other player is delisted, those picks shuffle down one (i.e #38 is Pick 43, Barlow is pick 55). If two more players are delisted, the picks shuffle down two (i.e #37 is Pick 43, #38 is Pick 55, Barlow is Pick 72).

So it looks like Dodd is gone and maybe Hinkley too, we would be wanting to use picks 20, 43 and 55 I would of thought and get 3 rookies.

Sibo hopefully for the early upgrade next year unless we find another Barlow :D
