Not saying Richmond should have ignored Deledio with pick 1 because he was the sure thing to be a 200 gamer - even though Buddy may well end up the best player of his cohort, he was the risk pick of the top 5. Something similar may well eventuate from last year's draft.
There was no doubt that Buddy was the potential 'Brennan' of his year.
But he was never going to drift outside the top 10. The point is, if anyone in the draft could afford to go for the riskier KP pick in the top 5, surely it was the side who'd already parcelled up the no-risk, gold-plated onballer @ pick 1.
Hawthorn were only too happy to risk it, even though they'd already spent a high pick on a KPP. They knew good onballers aren't quite so rare as talented KPPs and proved it by getting Jordan Lewis with their next pick. I was hoping we'd get Tambling that year, so I'm not here to bag him, but is he better than J-Lew?
