I started leaving once Bobby Hill kicked the goal...

I'm well out the stadium and some fan goes up to me and says Freo are one point behind and we have to go back. Said we couldn't because it's bad juju.

Couldn't believe we came back from 25 points. We looked horrible.
At least you didn't call him Brad

A draw is the best scenario considering how we played but far out, we have a lot of questions to ask of the club, does it come down to the gameplan and the coaching? Or does it come down to playing sub standard players?

We don't have a Darcy/Jackson problem.

Darcy is a better ruckman as he also impedes the opposition ruck and just needs to get his fitness/form back. It's Jackson's task to perform around the ground, not the fault of Darcy.

Jackson got monstered in the ruck last night. He had one tap to advantage for the game with 40% ruck time!

If Darcy didn’t play we’d have lost easily.

I don’t know, Justin seemed pretty disappointed with the performance in his presser. Even said we stole 2 points. Particularly scathing in his assessment of third quarter being played entirely in the Pies forward half.

They were giving Justin a hard time on the radio this morning relation to his defence of Amiss. I didn’t get that impression. He said he needs to get to work and practice through repetition. There were some questions I couldn’t hear regarding Amiss and he said twice “I’ll have to have chat to him about that”.

What Amiss needs to do better aside from lacking momentum when kicking for set-shot, is making more of a contest for the smaller forwards. I was impressed with Swita’s game last night. He was a spark when moved into the centre for the last 10mins.
He doesn’t provide that.
Feel like if he can’t contest, why bother?
Tabs is not as bad as people think, in the way that he hardly gets pushed off the contest and almost always brings the ball to ground if he can’t mark it. It’s an underrated trait forwards need to have.
Don’t mind Amiss only getting 4 disposals- it’s the lack of presence on the ground.

Jackson was the only player not in defense to take a contested mark, and it was just the one.

We need more out of him, Treacy and Amiss. It blunts our ball movement so much when they are held down.
Agree, but I think it's easy to forget they are 20, 21 and 22.

Talls take time.

Oh how my mate laughed at me when I said Lloyd Meek will end up a better player than Darcy

Much more suited to the modern game was my reasoning and Darcy’s better marking was my friends counter but Sean hasn’t had a good marking year for ages and we’ll see how this one pans out but it’s not looking great

You can use injury as an excuse but it’s all part of the value of a player isn’t it

Crappy trades and horrible self scouting are the 2 biggest issues we’ve had since day 1 IMO

I don't understand why when a game is winnable that people leave the game

It's not like they have anything better they could be doing

Have you ever considered they're just better? At least for the moment?

Fck hard to please.
I went through the first page ,skipped to last.
I winder is there a buch of supporters that are prepared to tear their team apart like ours. Drives me fckn crazy.
I’ve got news for you.

There are 17 other fanbases just as willing if not more, than us.

You should head over to the board of any Melbourne side after a loss if you don’t believe me. Try the port Ken Hinkley thread if you really want a specific example

The SA teams are the best melters. The Sack Hinkley threads are legendary. Haven't been over recently but I'd be surprised if it hasn't had a few pages today despite the 50 point win.

okay, sorry i didn't post this last night.
i'm going to focus first on what collingwood did to us. before what we did to them.

basically the first half they had their defense sit comparatively deep. and played an accountable midfield style. kept the pressure up and limited us. however, we did walk into halftime with a lead.

after half time their half-backs aggressively shifted up to sit behind the contest. thus if we wanted to move the ball we were moving it through a metric tonne of pies. plus they could apply a lot of pressure. (no1 pressure side in the comp). conversely, their midfielders ran ahead of the pack because their behinds were covered by the half-backers. thus they suddenly had a very dynamic offense.

freo to counter this style tried to initially work through it. however, that failed. we couldn't hand pass through them.

then we shifted the magnets. switta into the middle so he could close down space and prevent the collingwood mids from cheating ahead of the ball. brayshaw was starting center bounces off the half back. this meant he could also prevent their dynamic movement out of stoppage.
then to get our own ball movement. the addition of brayshaw who began sitting behind the contest allowed him to not immediately get closed down. he began having more clean possessions. young began to shift into a pseudo wing role (despite being the first receiver from the ruckman). this would allow him to kick more rather than be involved in stoppage.
young could do this because fyfe, switta and serong and johnson were occupying the midfield more.
all this player movement if how pearce ended up running from the bench couldn't get to his position on time. started a bounce on the wing. drifted forward and kicked a goal.

thus we were getting more clean looks from the midfield. whilst also getting the ball into players with the space to kick.

finally what freo did in our forward line to get it working. basically their half backs sitting behind the contest generally ensures good defense and pressure at the contest. but it leaves a lot of space in behind them. it was obvious to me switta and emmett didn't seem to have the smarts to utilize that space. (switta moved midfield). Walters does have the smarts but lacks separation from defenders. enter bailey banfield. hes not quick but i think hes quite good at bobbing up and utilising space.

i'm unsure if we can win if they have a degoey out their but, we began to exploit their system. banfield seemed almost disdainful of their half backers and was running off all the time. he was loving what collingwood was doing. but, i don't know if banfield is class enough to win us a final that way.

Hard enough to put up with the pancakes here without looking at other clubs site.
As I said, dies my fckn head in.
Win...... we shoulda won by more.
Lose......drop this one drop that one sack thd coach, sack the captain.
Draw....... we were luck to get that..sheeeit game.

Was at the game last night. Now watching the replay and it’s obvious how many times Pies use little tactics to delay giving ball back.
There’s one where Bobby Hill fists the ball miles into the crowd when it’s clearly crossed the line for a behind.
The one against Ryan cost them a 50m penalty.
It’s clearly a little thing they do.

They didn’t remonstrate heavily. They knew they stuffed up.
Umpires pick up on that I'm sure. Like Ginnivans shenanigans. They let it go for a while then kick em in the goulies. Like being given out LBW "on the shot" in cricket which cant really happen anymore but its the same thing.

Pearce going forward was a set play. Both he and Ryan were signalling to the bench after Young's goal to get the all clear to do it.
