Now with the NAB cup finished, what is your overall opinion on Goddard? Will his new position change, maintain his scores?

It would be very unlikely ( and probably stupid ) that Goddard plays a role where he doesnt see much of the ball.
Having said that, with Sam Fisher injured, I wouldn't be surprised to see him line up at CHB for round 1.

Mornin' fellas. I admit I'm not as well versed with the fringe players at the Saints as compared to other clubs/as much as I'd like to be - so I find myself trawling your forum and throwing myself to the mercy of the floor in my attempt to find some guidance.

I'm trying a bit of a different approach this year in SC (don't play DT) - just after some expert opinions as to whereabouts Geary and Gwilt sit in the scheme of things, as I'm considering either/both as perhaps pick-ups from left field.

Who do we rate as the better option for SC, if at all, as a 5th-6th defender range?

At this stage, I'm leaning towards Gwilt (think his job security/TOG is better + he's also a FWD MPP), but if the breaks go the way of Geary, I think that player has the higher scoring potential.

Thanks for any help :thumbsu:

The problem with the Saints fringe players is that if they go out of the team for any reason at all , ( loss of form , injury , mum died ) the coach seems to put in the next player and leave them there. Thats why Armitage saw hardly any game time last year. It took quite a few mediocre games before Eddy was dropped as well.

With that in mind, both Geary and Gwilt look likely to hold their positions if they continue to show the form from the NAB cup. I would rate Gwilt as more likely to hold his spot against Raph Clarke, than Geary who may be competing with Peake for a spot.

Geary was far better value last year in SC, I had him from the start and his growth was pretty spiffy for atrade up, this year, not so much @361.9k. That being said there are worse options considering he's usually rotated through the midfield yet listed as a backman so when he is on he'll get far more points than your average backman through misclassification. Gwilt is the worry for mine, showed promise in the pre season but during the season proper may find himself lacking if he screws up once.

Hey guys, Just wondering where Jesse Smith is at? Is he injured? fit? Will he likely break into the team?

If so how much footy do you expect him to play this year excluding further injuries?

Thanks

Accoding to the ever reliable official injury list.
Raph Clarke - Grade 1 Hamstring - To Be Assessed ( I would have thought he would be close to OK if this is correct )
Robert Eddy - Ankle Arthroscope - To Be Assessed ( If similar to Sam F's problem, must be getting close to OK ).
Sam Fisher -Ankle Arthroscope - 4-6 Weeks.
Lenny Hayes - Corked Calf , To be assessed ( most are assuming he will be OK R1 ).
Jesse Smith - Ankle , To be assessed. ( Does that mean he is close to OK or they dont know ?)
Jack Steven - Sprained mid foot - to be assessed. ( If it was a mild sprain he may be OK for R1 ).

I'd be expecting all except Sam Fisher and Lenny Hayes to be putting in time in the VFL before they are any chance for selection.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on Jesse Smith, and if he has one or two good games, maybe upgrading one of my el-cheapo's from the backline.

Gwilt is by far cleaner with his disposal which lends him to being a better SC option. He was also showing some run off HB as well. However given Sam Fisher is down for the first 4 rounds, Gwilt will be used in a KPB role. He'll definitely take Goodes in Rnd 1. Geary would be better suited to DT I would think.

Thoughts on Jason Gram?

I originally had him in my side earlier in the ps, but due to a few injurys he was off my radar. Also was told from a few Satins supporters he would have a slow start. But now that he is back on the paddock and performing, do you think he holds some value. Perhaps increasing his consitency (DT wise) with more of a wing/midfield role? Or do you believe he is maxed out in value and there are better, cheaper options?

Looks in very good nick and should have a good year.

Has been released further up the ground which suits his long kicking into forward 50 (which scores heavily in SC) and is kicking goals. He'd be capable of higher scores in SC than DT as he has the capability of being damaging by foot without getting plenty of it.

This is true. Could be worth getting the number 1 on the back.

Cheers for that. I was definitely more inquiring about DT. Although Now I will strongly consider him for SC. Do you believe his stats will decrease from last year? Ie: Not as many marks, which will therefore affect his DT scores.

I think his stats won't change much but the composition may change. Playing further up the ground he'll be handballing a touch more, but his kicks will be more damaging and he'll kick multiple goals. Marks won't be a big number for him, nor tackles.

Hey guys - is Armitage best 22 now? Especially with Fisher's injury? Cheers

Most people think he is but Fisher's injury is not relevant to his chances.
Pretty sure that he is in round 1, but if he hits a slump ( some say he has yet to string two good games together ), its possible they could use Jones, or Gram as a clearance player.

Whats Schneider's chances of getting a run in the midfield?
I think he'll rotate through the midfield, but will be used mostly as a small forward.

Is Gilbert a good choice for DT?

Gilbert has been promoted to the leadership group this year. He looks set to continue his climb up the DT and SC ranks.
He should perform pretty much equally as well in SC as DT but I think his scores in both will rise again this year.
