Yeah I could imagine they would absolutely cop it.

I was thinking that. Hypothetical - lets say Richmond and North were both out of finals contention. Imagine if they got together and said 'ok we're chucking Zeibell on the ground' the clubs organised their own umpire and they just started playing. I'd love something like that to happen one day.

Well as it would be using independent umpires it wouldn't be a sanctioned match and both sides wouldn't get any points out of it. It would be nothing but a glorified scratch match.

There would be no incentive for Richmond to agree to it unless they were hell bent on making a political statement, but they have no reason to stir the pot.

What would happen if a club say North Melbourne, actually just said f*ck the AFL and there suspension and just put Zeibell in the team and he plays? I know it would never happen, but f*ck me it would be so awesome.

North would forfeit the match. (same as if they played a player who wasn't on their list)

Yes I know, this isn't about who wins and who loses though, and I know it's not the most viable form of protest, but it'd be awesome if it happened just for the sheer hysteria it would create.

Not sure how much hysteria it would create, I would just call it a dumb move which ultimately would prove nothing. Unless there is a breakaway "super league" in the pipes both teams would have to come crawling back to the AFL anyway.

Yeah fair point. It's a bit of a shame that the AFL has so much power and that anything said in public that is remotely critical is shot down with farcical 'please explain' letters which result in the players succumbing to an apology.

No different to any other employer really, if you were to criticise your current workplace or it's parent company publicly in an open format like Facebook or Twitter and they got wind of it you would also face a please explain.

Fair enough too. Peeved the AFL reamed our players over equally innocuous comments. Sheesh, Murphy didn't even name who he was referring to, just said 'ruining a good game these blokes'.
Laidler merely commented on a rule, not the umpires ... “Are you not meant to try and b 1st in at the footy anymore. If u do u will be pinned for holding the ball. SHOCKING”. Bang .. FINED. In fact, Vlad came out and announced that Anderson was preparing a please explain letter, so he was in it from the outset.

Laidler's is no different to Petrie questioning that you can get suspended for playing the ball. Completely aims it at the rule, not those enforcing it.

Carlton should be sending their own please explain letter. AFL discretionary powers are out of control.

You just have to laugh at the horrid inconsistency by the AFL, some of the comments by our players were much worse than others that have been fined, it just goes to show how laden with guilt the AFL is about this debacle.

Although totally idiotic that murphy got fined i think the fact that he referred to the umpires is slightly different.... the umpires are like the untouchables... cant say anything negative about them at all..... and yes Murphy didn't specify who he was referring to.... could have argued that 2 players were ruining the game....

do players in other sports overseas cop it if they post anything on twitter?

Have a look at http://www.eskimo.com/~pbender/fines.html for NBA fines and suspensions, they give out quite a few.

Includes
- Stoudemire $50,000 for a homosexual slur on Twitter
- Garnett $25,000 for failing to make himself available to the media
- West $25,000 for giving another player a 'wet willie' :D
- JR Smith $25,000 for posting a scantily clad woman on his Twitter
- Heaps of fines for commenting on refs

The AFL is like the world claims to be free yet when you say something against AFL/Gov you get punished for it.

Why would he get punished we live in a free country don't we?

Its like the AFL is helping proving how the world is not free/fair clearly Judd vs Zieball punishments were not fair I bet they know that we all know that but the more powerful people say **** you to the people.

Another example you cannot say anything to umps no matter how wrong they are they are always right if you give them a spray HUGE fines come even if you accidentally make contact with them well you're ****ed.

Yet if you try dislocate a players shoulder its ok kinda.

Stuff like Carbon Tax isn't fair but yeah get used to it we will rape our people for money and mentally.

And we the sheep are just going to sit back burning about this yet do nothing about these outrageous changes just like the world.

The way things are going Im not going to like the game very soon.. the AFL is like a government it will be run like a government it will continue to rape our minds and erase what footy used to be I'm only 22 but I can see how fast this game is going to go to shit and all my kids are going to tell me is how much they enjoy it and I'm going to be sitting there saying "it used to be better"

STOP GOING TO ****ING GAMES THEN!

I stopped going to games years ago in protest of where the game was (and still is) heading. You can still buy your club membership and support your team, but just don't go!

The more bums on seats, the more power you give to the AFL.

If people stopped going, the AFL would change their ways very quickly.

So just remember - every time you go to a game, you're supporting the destruction of it.

Hahha I barely go to a game never really gone religiously.

But thinking freely...

I bet Judd only got 4 Weeks to line him up for a "big return" against rivals Essendon because they will make a lot of money with those headlines and that kind of build up to the game..
