i know for a fact that none of the eagles have done any recreational drugs, because look at them, they are all amazingly fit and successful. my school said that if you take ecstacy even once, you will probably die of an overdose or end up with brain damage. the newspaper said that if you take cocaine, you are pretty much guaranteed that you will kill your mum to get money for another fix. and if you try heroin, you will be emaciated and die within 24 hours

hey wait a second.... if those footballers have tried drugs and then won a premiership.....does this mean that people who occasionally use recreational drugs might be tremendously successful in their chosen, very demanding field? it almost implies that my school was lying about the whole thing. is it true that in this case, winners DO use drugs?

this throws my whole perception of reality into question.

Yep, and some become crack heads who steal from their family in those situations too

I don't think glorifying drug use helps anyone.

im not glorifying drug use. just trying to point out the bull******** that gets spun about them.

i dont think lying about them help anyone

remember, dont smoke kids! (unless you wanna look cool)

PS and who really cares what footballers do in their spare time? arent you own lives interesting enough? if your kids have them as heros and use them as moral guidance then your kids are idiots. let them do whatever they like and just appreciate them for the football.

IF the Eagles have a drug problem and Caroline Wilson has any PROOF of this then shouldn't she be passing the information on to the appropriate authorities (the AFL, The Eagles club bosses, the police) rather than printing vague inuendos in the newspaper ? In other words Caroline SHOW US THE EVIDENCE !

It would be naive to think that drug taking is non existent within the AFL.

However, for that maggot journo to direct such a pointed attack at WCE calls for her to be confronted to either present the "hard evidence" or retract in full.

Your school is just trying to scare you. I don't think there has been a recorded OD death from ecstacy, the main problem is drinking too much water too quickly, it goes straight to the brain and causes it to swell - That's where the brain damage comes from.

As for the recreational drug use, who ever thinks that it is non-existent in AFL has to be joking. As someone said before, going out on the piss every weekend is becoming impossible with the amount of training sessions and fitness levels players have to attain. Although party drugs such as speed, ecstacy and cocaine seem to be physically less damaging, players and the general public need to understand that the mental/psycologial ramifications are enormous. Addictions are started quite easily and with all that $$$ that younger players are earning these days it can become a real real problem.

Having said all that the AFL could throw millions of dollars into drug awareness programs and of course it would help but you could never eliminate the problem entirely. One can only understand the true destruction of drugs unless you have personally observed it or it has affected you in some shape or form.

If the AFL did not go to court and suppress the names all the speculation would end and everybody would get on with it and other players would not be tarnished by these players who tested positive.

If Leyton Hewitt or Grant Hackett ever tested positive I do not think their names would be suppressed.

Many people have died from taking E's.

as Thrawn said there was one in WA over the weekend.

and didn't you ever read "Anna's Story"? I had to read it for English in year 11 or 12. She died from only taking half an E

Alcohol is too fattening. All these skin fold tests are turning footy players to hard drugs where they go out dancing and drink a bottle of water.

As for the girl that died in Dunsborough...was a friend of a good friend of mine, so hits home a little. Chances are rare, but yes, it is a hard drug and should be treated accordingly.

This is not a Victorian v WA issue. Everybody hates Caroline Wilson and her two bit stories. However this one could well be true. I have it on a suposed first hand account after an end of season trip to London.

However who cares? If the alleged person does do it in the season and can still perform as one of the competitions elite, then so be it. One would have to be mad to do so though, I think it is more likely an off season pursuit.

Let's face it; young fellas are always going to have a crack and a shot at escapism, regardless of their chosen profession. Let them get on with it in peace and stop reporting about it; that merely glorifies the usage and encourages others to consider it a safe past-time.

i was just being facetious mate, i havent been to school for a long time.

and you are correct, its very difficult to OD on just MDMA, most of the stories you hear, if you look closer at them, usually involve mixing E with alcohol or other drugs, impurites or just idiot behaviour (like dancing for 6 hours without a break, or lying to nurses about what youve had). iv only ever heard of two people dying from taking just an e and nothing else, and in both cases it looks like they had an allergic reaction.

taken in moderation and with due care (as you should do anything), i think ecstacy is as safe as alcohol.

I agree Caroline Wilson lacks a certain amount of crediblity in this area, however, everything she says cannot be totally discarded.

I came across a far more balanced and thoroughly researched article relating to drug use in the AFL that is quite eye opening - it has exclusive quotes from Demetriou. Link is http://www.henrythornton.com/article.asp?article_id=4461

It appears this is the latest in a series of "drugs" articles - not sure who the author is.

Every player went to Las Vegas not London mate

A poster on EFH yesterday was saying how he/she had been listening to Ms Wilson on Melbourne radio, and she was still beating the "drug culture" at WCE drum.....very loudly.

The thing that irked me was that she even stated that "it" was so bad, that if she had a son, she would hate for him to be drafted to us. She is still claiming to have hard evidence to back up her story.

Is it not time for the Eagles to demand to see/hear said hard evidence? To my mind, their continued silence is only adding credence to her ramblings. Or would any comment by the Eagles hierachy be attempting to defend the indefensible?

I am afraid it is indefensible. I think it should be dealt with internally. They are big boys and these things happen in all industries. Constantly drawing attention to it only serves to make it more acceptable in the mainstream. The AFL would have a hard time proving it as well, as it only sticks in the systtem for about three days. It is no real suprise that Caro is intent on drawing it out, she is a horse of a woman and has nothing better to worry about, well balanced though, a chip on each shoulder. But from what I hear, a lot of other high profile media people hit it as well - so perhaps it is not in the sports best interest to drag it out. I have no first hand account on that one though.

As an aside, friends here in London have witnessed top flight, international England soccer players on the gear. I would say it is in all sports.

Let it be Wilson. Your son would probably be sh it at footy anyway, perhaps he can dob and make up stories for a living?

Anyone remember Dale Lewis (who?)? Came out and claimed that most footy players had taken illicit drugs and hasn't been heard of since. His media employers dropped him like a hot taty.
