We all know ROK had that purple patch last year where he played midfield and was averaging an extraordinarily high score. However looking at his last 6 games of 2009, his average dropped to 86, which is where he is usually priced at every year. Anyone know why his scores suddenly dropped?

St.Kilda & Collingwood and he probably wore himself out with that 173 against Carlton.

I had ROK form the beginning last year. He satarted off slowly and then blitzed it when he went onto the ball. The danger this year is that he may get first tag with Goodes in the forward line, and he is unproven with a hard tag. And his price is alread up there; better value elsewhere I believe.

Goodes or J Brown???

Goodes if price isnt an issue. Reasons are very simple. Goodes will be used as a CHF, he has genuine Riewoldt like scoring ability in that role as he has similar aerobic capacity, hands and work rate and is probably even better on the ground. He also has the ability to go into the middle if things aren't going to plan.

JB has the concerns of Fev, is a consistently slow starter and will almost certainly take until round 8 or so to get going as usual and is always a great trade up target. For 20k I would take Goodes.

Man I wish Burton didnt have that knee injury.
I think JB could improve to about 105ppg this year. He cant be double teamed and should push up the ground and get a lot of marks each game. Underrated?

On the flip side, he wont be kicked to on every single forward attack and Fev is going to need a lot more space than Bradshaw did to operate. He also relied on goals in the past to prop up his scores. Check his best games, it is when he gets 8 or 9 shots on goal, not when he pushes up the ground.

Brown just scares me because his dynamic has changed. I think given his usual slow starts and the questions over the changes make him the ideal upgrade target. I fully expect him to do his usual 70k+ drop in price over the first 5 or 6 as the Lions feel things out. I think anyone who has him in round 1 should give it a bit of thought.

Does anyone else think having Higgins, Giansiracusa, R.Murphy and Hall in the forward line is too risky?? Because if they weren't in the same team, for me, they would all be good options.

Anyone going to take the risk of starting Bradshaw in the fowardline without seeing him perform for the Swans?

I'm toying with the idea currently.

They all look like good options but togher no way, You should neaver have more than two or at the very most 3 players of the same team in the same position. Even if they are in a top 4 side, all it takes is one bad game where the fowards don't get much ball kicked to them and theres a massive hole in your score.

On starting Bardshaw way to much of a risk for me he is likely to have a slow start to the season and drop in price. Plus he is at an akward price and I wouldn't be very certian that he will even increase in price.

It might cost you a league game, but then again having all 4 of them when the bulldogs smash (for example) melbourne might win you a game.

In any case, IMO all that matters is PPG. If you think that those 4 are the best players to pick, based on points per game, then I'd have zero hesitation in picking all 4 - and I am strongly considering it.

I currently have Higgins Gia and Hall in the forward line. Im a bit concerned about Higgins ability to stay injury free, but I wouldnt agree that if the Doggies have a bad game all three of these would suffer to much. This would trouble Hall but Gia and Higgins both push up the ground and play through the midfield as well so it wouldnt be limiting their scores to much.

Plus... Can you really see this happening often?

What do people think about Ben Warren and Matt Campbell from the Roos?
I reckon they are in for good years after solid pre-seasons and will improve on last year but not sure if that's my North bias clouding my vision or not?
Campbell especially could be a good get, he will spend more time on-ball this year.

Far from bias. Both are fantastic pick-ups. I think the fact Warren registered a score of 0 in his last game makes him a great option.

Campbells pre-season has been very solid, scoring 88, 71 and 31 (which he only played a half of) and looks to be given a little more freedom to move up the ground.

Cant lose with either, both WILL improve their averages without a doubt by 10 points at the very least IMO. Hard to split and nominate one as the better option.

Yeah Warren and Campbell both look like good prospects. see how they went in NAB 4 but it is hard to split them.

I like Warren.....think if he stays injury free, he will really step up this season. Looked very confident in the pre season and goes hard at the ball and gets some good possessions. Good kick/mark as well.

I'm struggling at the moment with the following.......

Medhurst.......consistency....when the chips are down he can go missing

Hall....well, suspensions, injury......how will he go with a hard tag, most probably knock someone out...but will he be tagged as much considering the forward options at the Dogs....has he got a new lease of life??

Ziebell......will he cope with more attention this year....will he spend more time mid or up forward??

Buchanan.....will he get a start at the Lions and appreciate the different style from Sydney?? Will he get a lot more ball with most of the attention going to Fev and Brown??

Any thoughts??

What are thoughts on Steve Johnson this year? Seems to be playing pretty will and I've got him down forward.. but he's also fairly dear. Do people think he's worth it? Or is there a better option for a good keeper down forward?

What you said, in addition, he isn't nearly as good when you have Davis, Didak and Lockyer player, they all play a similar role and are better players. Medhurst is low risk and moderate reward. Does have upside and he wont be much worse than last year if at all and should remain in the 22 but a lot of things need to go right for him to be worth picking.

Hall....well, suspensions, injury......how will he go with a hard tag, most probably knock someone out...but will he be tagged as much considering the forward options at the Dogs....has he got a new lease of life??

Will be in the majority of teams I dare say. Injury hasn't been a major problem. Freak injuries and a groin that after basically 2 years off should be good. Dogs style should help him, the majority of his frustration in Sydney stemmed from defenders dropping back in front of him and the hands in the back rule. He will be a lead up target and looks like he is going to be told to play in front for the Dogs, supply will come too quick for players to drop back. I think he is still a risk of a brain snap, but if it happens 3/4 of all DT teams are making the trade so you really aren't that bad off.

Ziebell......will he cope with more attention this year....will he spend more time mid or up forward??

I can't get a read on him, which is why I most likely wont have him. He was impressive as a rookie but I'm not sold on the top end. At the same price I like Halls floor and peak a lot more. Basically I can't see a potential keeper this year in Ziebell.

Buchanan.....will he get a start at the Lions and appreciate the different style from Sydney?? Will he get a lot more ball with most of the attention going to Fev and Brown??

I wouldn't touch him. Inconsistent, durability and role uncertainty are all issues for me. He scored best as a midfielder and neither takes enough marks, tackles or goals as a small forward to supplement a lack of supply. Can't see the supply being higher this year or him offering enough.

Of that group I would rank Hall as #1, Medhurst as 2a, Ziebell as 2b and Buchanan as 3. If you have a better read/feel on Ziebell feel free to go on him. I'm intrigued by what NM will be like this year. If guys like Swallow, Anthony and Harvey can help make the team better than a guy like Ziebell's prospects improve.

Fit, healthy and firing he is worth every cent. He is a top 5 forward when things are going right. Problem is durability. If you think he plays 22 games without any groin/ankle injuries hampering him, then pick him because he wont let you down. If you, like I do, have doubts about his health, then it is your call. I haven't pulled the trigger on him but he is certainly in my thoughts.

hmm yeah - Im considering giving him the boot as its him v bartel... I can chuck dangerfield (currently in mid) down forward in Johnsons place, and then have room in the mid for Bartel... I'm thinking Bartels a slightly (just) safer option than Johnson..

No more FAs for abusing the umpire?

Nice one!

I am a big proponent of the "DP in lesser value position" theory. That is, if a guy can play two spots, you put him where his value is greatest. Basically I would never have a DP player as a midfielder because they are wasted there, if a guy is good enough to make your MF then you should pick him as a forward. I have no exception to this, the closest is the idea that I may go Tippett as a forward purely as an emergency solution to Ruck and because I have the risky Hille pick but even then, you could argue that Rucks and Forwards are equal anyway.

So I would not have Dangerfield in the MF, a because you could have him as a forward but b because his value isn't there as a MF.

SJ is worthy of a spot in his own right but if that is the idea I would certainly move to Bartel and get Dangerfield out of the mids.

It looks like Sylvia is a good chance to return in round 2.

So, in essence it may be a Buddy situation. Does this change anyones view, or will you steer clear as it's unknown how he'll cope with possible ramifications of playing with a wired jaw ?

Still steering clear.

I wanted Sylvia after doing some research but the fact that he's missing the first round (possibly more) and also the unknown with how he'll cope has driven me away.
