DT 'Unique' picks 2012

Yeah Rich will really improve this year and will demand the best tag.

Rockliff is a pretty big name nowadays, he won't go unnoticed. Having said that, i don't think a tag will stop him too much, as mentioned, he loves a tackle.

I agree with Yogi on this one.

I'd be very surprised if Black or Redden weren't tagged before Rock.
For me Rich has to be tagged as he has a hugely damaging kick on him. I know I wouldn't leave him alone if I were opposition coaches. Black will still have a decent influence on games so should still cop close attention. Plus, I think Redden's run and carry style of play will cop attention considering the amount of metres he gains for his team. Rocky would surely have to be tagged after that lot right ? Plus, even if he does get tagged, he'll just tackle the bastards hah

Natanui anyone?

I have him for Supercoach atm - good chance he'll still be there come Rd 1 too.

He does go missing for big patches in games, but with the way Supercoach scores he tends to come good when needed and will lead to big points.

His hard ball gets, tackling and slightly improvement with contested marks make him a great SC buy i reckon.

Not for DT though, not enough cheap stats.

anyone think gary rohan might have a breakout year?

I do. Had a big game the other week in practice match and looks like he has finally over come his injury problems. Cheap as chips too.

I'll be watchin his every move during NAB cup.

Few talking about Boyd as a unique...geez, he has been the first player I've picked the last two years and I'll be going with him again this year.

An absolute freakish ball magnet..love him.

From memory Rohan hasn't done a full preseason. Early injury, cant remember exactly what it was. Also some Sydney fans seem to think he will play as a defensive forward which wouldn't be ideal. To many other good options that mean RISK like this don't need to be taken. Massive RISK/REWARD pick.

Just seems When people are buying their super premium mids Pendles, Ablett and Swan getting more attention. By the end of year Boyd will be everywhere I'd imagine but if you only starting 2 or 3 super premium mids it seems those 3. (along with the people who got the Brisbane boys last year and have soft spots for them)

Shannon Hurn looks set for a big season...$345,100

2011 was a 70 avg that could well turn into a 85 this year.

Looks in top form.

Josh Caddy is the one on my radar. About 250K and should average 80 / 85. Will watch closely in the preseason.
I had a long think about him too, but for that price I'd want him to go all the way and not need a trade. I can't see 85ppg average cutting the mustard in the midfield with only six spots available.

That's a big amount of extra money to be paying for a player who will essentially be an upgrade platform.

If he was a MID/DEF I would strongly consider it, but he wouldn't ever be my plans to line up in my midfield.

I agree, he has always been on the cusp of moving up. Playing as a high cut off defender who can float further up to shoot at goals is very attractive.

I will see where he fits in the side once Sam Butler is back. Keep in mind that Fremantle didn't play a forward line in the second game, so he was free to sit in space and pick off anything bombed long out of defence... Chris Mayne was the only player ahead of centre in what looked to be a siege defence training drill.

Surely the tagging order at Brisbane would be:

Black > Adcock > Rich > Redden > Rockliff

I'm doing that based on Black having more impact / better decision making and the rest based on kick eff %.
Rich > Rockliff > Black > Redden

Adcock will play at the back and will be second in line for a forward tag behind Hanley.

For the mids Rich is entirely too dangerous to let run free. He has copped the number one tag most weeks for the last two years. Don't expect things to change this year. Rich has worked hard on his running this offseason and he should be better able to deal with the tag thus making him more dangerous.

Rich is also easier to tag than Rockliff which is a consideration as is the fact that Rocky does not have a huge hurt factor with the ball. Having said that he is improving in this regard. Rockliff will get attention in some games and at different times during games to try and quiet him down. He might not be hugely damaging but he is an absolute ball magnet and that has to be honoured. In the praccy match that the Lions put the hard tag on Rockliff and have been doing similar in drills for quite some time. They expect Rockliff to get some tags and are preparing him for it.

Black will have some bigger games and someone might sit on him around the clearances but his kicking has fallen right away the last few years. He will not be tagged nearly as much as Rich and Rockliff.

Redden is not the elite ball user that Rich is nor the magnet that Rockliff is. Think of him as the Joel Corey of the Lions midfield and like Corey in the Geelong midfield of a couple of years ago he is a very nice scorer but not someone you are going to put a tag on where the others are playing anywhere near the top of their game.

Thoughts on J Winderlich (Ess). I have read on Dr Dreamteam that he has had a full preseason and has been training the house down and yet I have heard or read anything else about him since. It seems nobody is willing to take on Winderlich.

I got him. A player that is capable of averaging 80-85, an absolute steal at that price. Noted he has had a bad run with injuries, however a full pre season should help him with that this season. I'm willing to take the risk even if he only lasts half a year he should make me some cash.

My thoughts exactly. Just can't help thinking that I should get rid of him and trade down 1 premium and upgrade Winderlich. Hoping that Winderlich is 1 unique player that I can make money from.

Incorrect.

And you do know that he's 188cm/ or nearly 6'2?

Read Essendon board

Will play forward and do the small forwards role whether it be crumbing goals or pressuring the best opposition players. Naturally will get stints in the midfield as every small/medium player in the comp that plays forward or midfield does with the modern game.

Due to the lack of ability of Alwyn Davey he is our best option and showed he could play this role last year.

Bet you he will be playing mf by the midddle of the season.

When he's fit and firing, he can play either HF/wing/HB.

Attack or defence..it doesn't matter. He's pretty much a utility.

Maybe early on they will put him forward and just see if his knee can get through a month of footy. He has very good overhead marking skills and has had stints as a lead-up HF in the past.

DT wise it's hard to say. I reckon he's a genuine unique pick who could the best bargin of the year or a pick that backfires badly and costs you dearly...like so many other options around that price.
