4k tvs are soooo cheap
So am I ;)

You do realise if the footy is broadcasted in 1080 anyway and like me you are old and blind and often drunk when watching the footy that its the refresh rate that is king.

600Hz sub field drive. Both Tellys might display at 60Hz but a plasmas sub drive and it's blacker blacks from not being side/back lit cant be beat for watching footy.

Did it not work on the PS3? :/
Turned the PS3 on.

Remotes flat. No longer hold charge. Thats cool I was ready for that.
Disk in. Loads. Image of 2018 AFL GF.
Click. PlayStation says NO.
Need to update to allow playback of Blueray disc.
Ethernet cable unplugged. Plug it back in. No internet.
Go into settings. Auto detect. Nope. Fo real?. Manually enter settings. Were back.
Download update. Goes to install.
Error code. ****. Enter safe mode.
Try again. Nope ****.
Google error code.
Now im about 5 or 6 beers in now.
Google says its bad. Gotta open up the PS3. Often terminal. Get ****ed.
Give up and head to the GF GIF thread instead.

Plasmas blacks are nice but oleds are nicerer.

Absolute ink black.

My tv doesnt handle blacks anywhere near as well - i traded that off for the upscaling engine which is (mostly ) superb - sometimes it has this weird grainy effect that makes me wish i could turn it off.

All in all though footy in 720p or 1080p comes up looking awesome - not a lot of black there.

Footy in sd doesnt look any better at all - and sd is what we get in the country.

I'm not upgrading until a TV comes along that can fix the blurry picture when rewatching the grand final six beers in.

Yeah but Im cheap and OLEDs are pricey. Been waiting for the competition to come out. Might look at a Sony or Pano OLED in a year or two.
They are quite impressive

Good thing about 8k coming out is 4k will become cheaper.

Unless you are buying 85” tvs and are a ubernerd you are going to struggle to see THAT much of a difference - although the new upscaling engines are supposed to be fire

Im half blind so I welcome it.

Hurns glistening thighs under lights in 8K :eggplant:

Picked up the Blu Ray today, just flicked through to see what bonus extra footage is on it. Basically cobbles the post-game presentations and lap of honour/interviews together and runs into the team going into the changerooms and ends with them singing the song. Then a montage of on the siren shots/celebrations/team with the cup that has been chopped from about 3 different lead into ads/comeback from ads montages from the Ch7 broadcast. It's set to some lame, dramatic but presumably royalty free music. Original broadcast had Queen's We Are the Champions for the first part of celebrations up to where Shuey is in tears (also chops out the shots of Collingwood players and coach), next part originally had the Eagles theme song, and then the part with the team with the cup used Gold by Imagine Dragons.

Just in case anyone was interested. :p

How's the picture quality, do you reckon it's true 1080p or some upscaled shit?

I'm the wrong guy to ask, my TV isn't even true HD. :p It's definitely a sharp image for me, but others are better on advising on that stuff.

The post game is extremely chopped up, btw. Watched it today and they cut Pendlebury's speech, and it's very choppy doing the lap of honour. I need to synch up the Ch7 version I have to see how it compares.

I know most people will only care that the game is there in full, but I get pretty irked by the standard we get. In this day and age we should get the full broadcast just without ads. They have the cameras rolling when there's ad breaks, that stuff should be included in releases like this. I'm talking the between quarters breaks. It's Blu Ray, they can fit a **** ton of data on it or even multi disc it. But, it's just a very amateur feeling production effort.

It's fine. As expected it's interlaced PAL, so the quality you see will be dependent on how good your Blu-Ray player or TV are.

Just got the Bluray - alternate commentaries seem to be well synched...

As for quality - seems to be on par with the Foxtel HD feed. Here is almost the same frame from Fox and the bluray for example.

I am happy that they have used the fox stream where they keep the commentary and video going after goals (rather than skipping to the next bounce because of ads).

Actually really enjoying listening to the other commentary streams
