Pick 69: Jase Burgoyne (Woodville West-Torrens)

I'm very happy with this pick that is wasn't matched. It is pick 69 so I'm not jumping for joy, but he's a very solid pick and another who if the Pies get his development right they'll have a very good player on their hands. He's the son of Peter Burgoyne, who is considered a Port great.
Stands at 185cm, he moves really well and makes smart decisions with the ball in hand but he probably needs to tidy up his kicking a tad as at times it lets him down.

He played three senior games for WW-T and played well averaging 15.7 disposals with a disposal efficiency of 89%, he also played 4 reserves games where he averaged 18.8 disposals going at 96%. This shows he's got senior football experience, which maybe a concern for a few gives his playing weight of 65kg but he's very much outside player who using his running and link up play to good effect. He was simply too good for the u18s where he averaged 28.8 disposals at 87%.

I went into this thinking I had my three picks locked in Soligo, Lukac and Paton but at the death changed my mind.
Another I considered was an absolutely smokie that I recently saw play for GWV Rebels and really impressed me - Jamieson Ballantyne. He's a tall winger who is running machine, good skills and isn't afraid of the hard ball. I actually think he could go top 50 on draft night!

But the Pies would be very happy with Diacos, Soligo, Benning and Burgoyne.

I had no points to match unfortunately :(, tossed up between him and Rayson with my earlier pick

Quiet!!! Some of us have picks left. 😜

You know better than I but I thought JB looked pretty damn good from the videos I could find.

This will be a good PD to look back on in 4-5 years

Also, you didnt take your ball magnet? Why mate?
Sorry I promise to be quiet now! haha

Lentini was Wedgetailed Westerner boy! So I simply couldn't take his find.

Lentini, I simply haven't seen him play yet. I've seen highlights which look bloody good, but without seeming him play a full game it's too hard to tell their influence on a game, two way running, other disposals that weren't so great. The Erasmus highlights I watched the other day, he looks like the best player ever but watching a full game of his and it's not all like that!

Pick 70: Adelaide Football Club Select Jordan Lukac
Woodville-West Torrens/ South Adelaide
196cm/89kg
Key forward

Hawthorn pick 71 - Matt Hammelmann
Mature aged recruit. 25yrs old, 197cm 88kgs,

Winner of the Jim Miller medal (leading goal kicker VFL - Average 4.2 goals a game)
Far better player then when a young buck at Brisbane.

Full write up to follow but I see value in mature agers with my late picks generally.
I needed to take one KPP and I think this lad can now have an impact at the top level.

* Full write up on both Rogers and Hammelmann both coming this Friday/Saturday.

maxrm next up with Caaaaaaaarlton :p

Good pick mate. Can take a grab - definitely projects as a KPF who can chop out in the F50 for ruck duties. I considered him instead of Avery at my last pick.

With Pick 72, Carlton select an understudy/protege for Saad - BLAYNE O'LOUGHLIN. Nephew of Michael who provides great dash off half back. I think he's an exciting project pick at this range in the real thing too. I believe he's an Adelaide NGA player who they didn't nominate in the end.

maxrm you may change this pick before the next selector locks theirs in. That would be Miguel Sanchez

Sorry maxrm but I’ve been sitting here for ages hoping Norwood’s Alistair Lord lasts to this pick, so I’m not passing up an opportunity to snap him up. Full write up to come but was in contention at pick 30 so delighted he’s fallen this far. (He has fallen this far, hasn’t he? I haven’t just misread?)

Edit: I mean Alastair Lord, apparently Alistair Lord was the 1962 Brownlow Medalist.

All good MS he is still there so he is yours to claim.
Very good late pick by the way.

PICK 74 - FREMANTLE - JOSH CRIPPS

Good pedigree. Better form. Who wouldn't be happy with adding a Cripps this late in the draft?

Josh has had a huge year for the East Freo colts, especially in the middle of the season, where for an entire month he was averaging 22 touches and 4 goals a game. That's absolutely huge for a guy who splits his time between ruck duties and the forward line, showcasing his impressive versatility. He's good in the air and contributes around the ground, which is a great base to work off for a still developing tall. And developed he has, adding around 9kg of muscle to his frame this season. He wants it!

Some people criticise his apparent lack of speed/mobility. Well, his performance at the combine surely put some of that to bed, and I believe a lot of that can be attributed to an ACL injury he's had to work his way back from. To put in the performances he did this year to put his name up in lights with that in mind is super impressive, and he's a welcome addition to the Freo ruck stonks.

Monocle is up with the Sainters.

Pick. 75 Saints Kilda Patrick Voss. 194cm 84kg. Utility. Oakleigh Chargers.

download-23.jpg

Voss is the old school, unfashionable, antisocial, hard nosed aggressive player.

Can play in the forward line and just as well as a defender.
A feature of his game is his willingness in the clinches and he is one of the better tacklers in the NAB competition.
Possesses raw courage and does not shy away from the physicality of the game.
He is the sort of player that every team needs one of, there is a bit of Max Rooke / Beau Waters about him.
He has good size and I think his game projects well at the next level.
At this juncture in the draft I think he presents excellent value with such a late pick.

He hails from Wagga Wagga, has been boarding down in Melbourne at Wesley College and plays with the Oakleigh Chargers, whilst still part of the GWS academy list.

I have taken Voss here as I have tried to balance this pick with the mix of players that I have previously selected for the Saints.

There were two project tall's that I strongly considered, but in all likelihood they are rookie picks as the both are very raw.

Had I not taken both Rankin and Stagg with my previous picks I would have taken another forward / mid with this pick: Sturt's Mani Liddy who IMO is the best player still left on the board.

omgfridge Bombers are up.

I hope all the superstars we delisted over the last few years because the entire club is broken get picked up.

Come on down Luke Partington, it's your time to shine.

Essendon - Pick 76 & 77 - Miller Bergman and Luke Nankervis

Why? Because I asked my Essendon mate who he'd pick. Two versatile players, Bergman can play halfback/wing and Nankervis can play half fwd. This provides some much needed depth for these areas and will let them both develop in the twos.

Nankervis is apparently a massive Star Wars fan, nopt really relevant but it was one of the first things to come up when looking into him.

Sydney pick noah pegoraro
24 yr old key back from west perth
Looking through threads on BF searching for what sydney fans think they need and a kpd was always near the top of their list.
This guy is solid

Thanks to Carbine Chaos for picking Charlie Dean on my behalf last night for Port Adelaide, I wanted a big guy down back for them as I think they need a bit of depth in that department and after winning the Fothergill - Round - Mitchell award for best young player in the Vfl this year, he’s a plug’n play option.

Pick 63 - Charlie Dean - Key Defender, 195cm, 85kg

The VFL’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell medallist – awarded to the best young player in the competition – has been a golden ticket to the AFL in recent years. And intercept key defender Dean looms as a chance to join the long list of mature-age recruits after testing well at the national combine. Dean, 19, averaged 15 disposals, eight intercepts and seven marks (three intercept marks) for Williamstown in seven VFL games, excelling with his strong hands overhead and ability to read the play. The 195cm tall previously played as a forward for the Sandringham Dragons.

I really like the look of this guy. I rushed my last pick for Brisbane and wanted to pick a decent KP back as the Lions are looking old down back.

This kid has composure and some very neat kicking skills. Definitely see Grimes comparisons.

What impressed me the most was his reach in spoiling and tackling. He doesn't give up and has an amazing reach where he spoils just as the ball arrives and gets a hand on it. Same with tackling, uses his reach to wrap up players try to step him. And marking is also very good, composed.

No doubt the Eagles will need a tall at some point, if we went hard on mids earlier I would be pretty happy to pick this kid up with our 4th pick, 68 would be what 58?

He looks like a 100+ game player for whoever picks him up I reckon.

With the 12 hours passed, GWS select outside midfielder JAMIESON BALLANTYNE from Greater Western Victoria Rebels/Vic Country.

daddy_4_eyes you have until the next selection to swap this if you'd like.

Obeanie1 you're up.

GWS will pass on pick 79.
Jamieson Ballantyne can go back into the player pool. Apologies to Jamieson for getting his hopes up.

I don't think GWS will draft this deep in the real world.
