Was sitting at Subi Oval last night and it has become apparent that a lot of fellow eagles supporters have minimal understanding of what is happening out on the field. A couple of time we kicked backwards to create a switch that led directly to a scoring shot for us however every time we did the the switch was aggressively boo'ed and people werent realiasing the swtich was quite effective in moving us down the field and providing us scoring shots.

The other is for god's sake stop getting on the players back about kicking the ball long into our forward line. A number of times our forwards were out numbered 4 on 2 or 5 on 2 and the crowd was getting stuck into players for not kicking the ball long. After a while some of the players started bombing away and kicking to situations where we were clearly out numbered Port rebounded very easily.

I think a lot of us really need to look at the big picture and view the whole ground and not just the player with the ball!!

There's a few in every crowd... try watching a game with NSWer's (who are only watching because the Swans are in the finals) who get all excited when the team kicks a "sixer".

Isnt this just footy crowds in general? All games Ive been to are like this to a degree.

Half the comentators only just figured it out last year, so it will take a lot of supporters a bit longer.

However there is a World cup this year so a couple of late nights in June should have a few more people understanding that it is better to go backwards, keep possision and try to open something up on the other side.

No. Even Docker crowds know more of what's happening during a match than an Eagles mob.

Deranged morons screaming against every single free kick not going the Eagles' way. Abusing their own players. I've seen it all at Subi.

I'd rather go and sit in the Carlton cheer squad for four qrts than sit through another WC home game.

You get idiots in any crowd. Just watch a Melbourne-based crowd yell BALL when a player from the team they support just looks at an opposition player before they even get tackled.

But going particularly to the OP - some of the people around me yesterday booed when whichever WCE player (can't remember - 3rd quarter) switched play across the ground and didn't bomb the ball into the forward line where Chad Cornes (playing for his usual uncontested possessions) was standing by himself - except for three other unmanned Port Ade players. I think they get stuck in the tv mentality of watching only the ball and not looking ahead of play.

We have a winner.

Great thread. I always wondered why the Eagles loved hugging the boundary with half a dozen hit-up leads 20m from the ballcarrier in a row at Subi. Now I know: it's to bask in the glory of Eagle fans' applause. Then they kick it to Chad. :D

You're wrong there my friend. It's the opposite actually.

Victorian and S.A fans know when it's time to yell 'ball'. About 1.8 secs after he's grabbed and wrapped up.

Eagle supporters, from kids to grandmas, are in such a frantic state from the moment the game starts, they scream out 'ball' at any time an Eagle player lays a finger on an opposition jumper.

Ive seen a lot of live football in Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and even Brisbane and there is definately an element of this in every crowd imo.

However from what i have seen the worst around are easily Adelaide crowds.

In fact Adelaide crowds are the worst full stop from an opposition supporters point of view, and far more ignorant/annoying than west coast fans.

Yer, but the average South Australian footy fan knows more about playing tactics in League football than your run of the mill Eagle or Docker fan.

Most of the people at Subi games don't even know who most of their players are during a match.

No.. its Eagles members in General. I travel a lot and watch games in most states and West Coast Supporters are not Football followers they are Eagles followers.... there is a difference. The do not know footy they just golf clap and cheers a little when the get a gaol or a free kick and then chant Eeeeeagles, eeealges when there is 2 minutes left and they are up a bit

This is true. When the Eagles get flogged by 10-15 goals at home, as they have periodically over the past few years, the locals have the decency to sit in silent shame as the junk time goals are kicked by the kids in blue and yellow.

Today, the Swans carve the Crows open to lead by ten goals at half time, yet every one of Dangerfield's five second-half junk goals is cheered and applauded like they're passing shots in the third set of the Wimbledon final.

Crow fans are weird. Do they even know how to Bronx cheer their own? Their belief in the superiority of the men wearing black, yellow and red borders on the unhealthy.

This is pretty true

Also, Dont bother try to support a different club at Subi, Your abused because you dont go for the eagles and they pick fights with you

Where have you guys been hiding all my life? There should be a support group for those of us who have sat through an Eagles game at Subi. Every post on here could not be more true - except the one about politely sitting through a 10-15 goal hiding, most have left half way through the 3rd quarter in those games...I saw a heap leave the WACA against St Kilda at half time one game many years ago (the one where they called for a head count).

One of the best examples of Eagles 'fans' having no idea was a group discussing how well 'number 17' was playing one day - it was Guy McKenna playing in game number 230!!!

And this happens nowhere else?! I remember reading threads about people starting fights with people supporting other teams in Melbourne. And then there was the idiot Freo supporter at the pre-season WCE v Port match where he was trying to bet with people that Pavlich had been AA the last 6 (or was it 8) seasons. Idiots in every crowd in every city.

You only have to watch tv coverage of Malbourne-based games where the crowd yells BALL when they think a player with the ball is being tackled until they realise that the ball is in another players hands who is about to be tackled. BALL is yelled again - but too early as the handball gets away before the tackle. It is hilarious to watch a series of these premature exhaltations.

Funny as hell last night at the Saints win - picture this, way late in the final quarter, Saints have been amazing and lead by 104 points. We go backwards and chip it around a bit - all of a sudden everyone starts booing and people are yelling that they shouldn't be allowed to do that. Fair dinkum - they've won by 104 points. They should be allowed to chip it around and save some energy and make sure there aren't any last minute injuries. Seems a bit silly.

What about getting stuck near the old granny who quietly says 'Go eagles,go eagles, go eagles' over and over again when ever they have the ball in their hands.
