West coburg are incredibly inconsistent losing to haddy who have dropped off from last year and now they knock off pacco

What may not be common knowledge is the partnership between the EDFL & RDFL ....... it can be found on the Essendon FC website under a job ad for a community officer , forget C grade for a moment is there something bigger going on behind closed doors ????
Have a look for yourselves very interesting !!!!

If you look at it properly there is no partnership between the EDFL and RDFL, both leagues (juniors) have a partnership with the Essendon Football Club.

This was posted on the RDFL website.

The Riddell District Football League is proud to announce a new partnership with the Essendon Football Club.

Part of the partnership sees the Essendon Football Club sponsoring the junior competition and the club is very pleased to support grassroots football as it is incredibly important to the fabric of local communities and promotes healthy lifestyles, resilience, camaraderie and social cohesion.

As part of our partnership, the Essendon Football Club will be providing opportunities for EDFL and RDFL junior clubs to engage with the Essendon Football Club and our sponsors on a number of levels. Attached to this article is details of the partnership and the first round of offers for clubs perusal.

League General Manager, John Batty, stated "The League is delighted to form a partnership with the Essendon Football Club and it is an exciting venture for all parties. The winner of this arrangement is junior football."
All clubs in the League have a great opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of AFL football through the partnership with an offer from the Essendon Bombers to attend matches.

I think the issue with the RDFL & BFL teams coming across is that they currently charge gate entry to games, so if they were to come to the EDFL that is already extra revenue that they will need to raise to break even. Also the facilities and ground at all the clubs in those leagues are far better than in the EDFL, Sunbury Lions will go from playing at the Eastern Oval in Ballarat prob the best local footy ground in the country to playing on the cow paddocks at Taylors Lakes and Maribyrnong Park even in the RDFL the grounds and change rooms are far better than we have. So the question is what have we got that is better for them, travel is the obvious answer as well as a better standard of football and arguably better administration.

Gate entry would be a major financial loss 7 - 10k.
Travel is not really that obvious (RDFL), Sunbury and Diggers Rest would only travel futher than 20 minutes 3 times at most.
As for better standard, well that depends if they were to come and push to A grade, I think that RDFL standard is rapidly improving and would be on par to B grade.
Sunbury Lions on the other hand would benifit travel wise and would boast the best facilities and ground in the comp. Clubs would get lost at Clarke oval.
Financialy to them gate may not be as big a loss. Standard wise, they would be too good for B grade and maybe 3rd-6th In A grade.

Gee, I know it's only early days but two teams who would have been dropped down to Div 3 later this year sitting 2nd and 3rd on %s.

Go Saints.

Both going very well. Important that they got off to a good start as it looks as though it is going to be very tight for finals spots. In promoting the way the EDFL went about creating Div 3 (before they changed it), one poster here said that the 2 clubs were absolutely no chance of making the finals. Seems that they were way off.

Whether or not East Keilor or the Saints make the finals is irrelevant, they are quickly proving that the initial division 3 plan was flawed as both would be there next year regardless.

Having said that, good on the clubs for fighting it and the EDFL for admitting they got it wrong.

Not surprising that these clubs appear to be going well with the draw very lop sided in B grade

They have beaten sides like Westmeadows, Keilor Park and Hadfield. One a Prelim side from last year and another a finals team from last year. They probably do have favorable draws (happens like that in the AFL too) however they have beaten good sides too.

Highly uneducated call. Have beaten good sides. And the b grade ladder is looking very tight, most sides can beat anyone on their day. The point being the edfl had written them off as c grade sides and right now they clearly are not.

the fixture is very lop sided. playing jacana, roxy and mv is all but a guaranteed win for the other 11 teams this year and the edfl knew this when coming up with the draw. have a look which teams play the bottom 3 clubs twice...
the edfl knows it's not good for the competition to have multiple teams losing by 200 points+ each week so they tried to limit this by playing the weaker sides against each other more often.
not a bad idea but unfortunately it's probably going to mean one or more teams sneak into the finals while other clubs (that have been punished for their previous success and are forced to play the stronger teams twice) miss out on finals due to their tougher draw.

not taking anything away from northern they are travelling pretty well just stating the facts of the fixture

I reckon you are, but that's ok. Even allowing for the draw (which was done with a good idea on who was going down to div 3), they're 5 and 1 and have beaten 3 teams who would be expected to finish much higher on the ladder.

As I said earlier and it's only early days, but imagine if Northern or EK made finals in a year they were expected to be relegated to div 3.

It's refreshing to see a couple of clubs other than the usual suspects occupy positions on the ladder which they are not normally accustomed to especially over the last 4-6 years. Is this not what the EDFL would want to see? It certainly spices up the season and with Pacco losing poses a number of interesting scenarios. Regardless, I for one look forward to see sides such as Northern and EK do well, similar to what Haddy were doing in the latter half of the year last year and received plenty of plaudits for it. I watched both EK and Northern go at it in the 2nd round and I would be surprised if both don't make finals, they are both very very good teams and proving it with some of the teams they are beating, as one other poster mentioned. Beating Keilor Park by 40 points is a hell of a result, unless they are not rated. East Keilor beat them beat them 1st round, some credence please, and Keilor Park beat Tulla last week, so all in all regardless of the draw, Northern and East Keilor deserve their spots on the ladder. Well done to both clubs, clubs that were facing oblivion in C Grade, may have just turned the corner, and futures look bright at this stage.

Saints are unlucky not to be 6-0 after blowing a 5 goal half time lead against east keilor

NS were just far too good for KP on the weekend,

Totally outplayed them from the start,

Their constant run will worry some sides at home

KP seem to struggle to find space on the small ground and lacked the discipline and dedication to run with the NS players through the middle and off the half back line

big loss given the other results, could have been on top by percentage

it is just as well they are playing the good sides only once, it should make sure they play finals, but they are far from convincing right now

too top heavy ,no leg speed,no teamwork ,rely too much on their fullforward to kick all the goals. go sainters.......

Gee some people are up and about aren't they!! It's early days in a long season!! NS were too good on Saturday, clearly. But history will show that a lot of humble pie is eaten by some on this site that start firing shots a little early... Ask Tulla if they think KP are too top heavy and rely on their FF too much (he didn't play against them)...

Spot on Bomber, some upsets already in the year to date.
Hot favorites PV were beaten by WC on the weekend and Hadfield put WC away. Footy's a funny game.
The year looks like it will be a close one, NC are playing good footy but they will come back to the rest of the pack after playing some of highly ranged quality sides. Any given day, any team can win.

Bomber and Doc, yes good points, and no doubt will be vindicated

but i am sure you agree, the losses to EK and NS did expose some problems with leg speed and the ability to run with sides,

both made you look slow

Whenever a team loses you can highlight the differences between sides and say one was 'exposed'. Not going to give a full diagnosis on here, but I will say that I think KP were beaten mentally more so than physically... I think the any team any day statement is as accurate as it gets... I don't think NS are particularly quick, just ran at the right time to the right places... Every team looks slow when they don't have the ball...
