EDFL Div 2 2020

selling off assets would be the last thing you would do To fund a loss from a previous year. Better still look at operating costs, slash and or control those and think outside the square and look at other means of raising revenue. Clubs are slugged enough in my opinion, I think the EDFL needs to become more disciplined in its financial management as a start. Leaving money in the bank and not reinvesting in the competition would be of concern. The factory need to yield income.

Agree with the above.... the EDFL board and constitution is not contemporary. It can and should appoint board members (1-2) that are chosen on skill set. This is a skills based board and is the current gold standard.
What you see at EDFL house is a boys club.

They had an opportunity to appoint a board member with some financial nous but as he wasn’t part of the ‘club’ did not get enough votes.

Moonee valley recruiting like no tomorrow Shannon Carol voted coach of the year new rooms big juniors coming through picking up Premier players will only form them as short favourites
Had a look at transfer list Didplay, curious to which premier players they’ve picked up, or do you know of that aren’t on the list?

Wait until February and you will see players from the river

Well if that’s the case I don’t think there’d be many that’d begrudge the Valley moving up to Div 1. They seem to have earned a lot of goodwill the last few years especially. Should be yet another interesting time in this division to say the least

Don't write off Northern Saints Just yet. Their Reserves and under 19's just played in the Grand Final and few of those boys will be stepping up. This division will be really close this year between 5 sides and ladder spots will change from week to week. Of course, it will come down to who is best prepared for Finals weeks with the available players and the wide open spaces of windy hill.

Can't wait for round one across all divisions !!

Oak Park are the Smokey’s.
They have Todd Clarke back as coach who coached them to their last premiership. They will be the fittest team in the comp. still have some handy players and with some good recruits will push come September

Well - Hopefully, they will be a lot smarter than last year where they had 4 wins across 4 senior teams and 1 was against themselves !! I think they will be very competitive in this division and should make Finals and possibly top 2 - But, an extra year in this division will only strengthen their preparation for a higher division.

True Joey but the EDFL has $1.6M NET Assets end of FY18 including $0.7M cash at call, $0.5M Term Deposit and HQ Building $0.5M. This is a mismanagement of club $ over a number of years. So big concern. Should be running basically breakeven as a not for profit entity.

They might need that money. With the master plan of Windy hill precinct coming out over the next 8-18 months they might be kicked out of the offices so may need to find something new.

8-18 months is very optimistic !! There will be 2 council elections before anything will progress as there is a major shake up at the next council election in Oct 2020 - nothing will happen or progress before then as many moonee valley residents in particular are concerned were all the money is going. The EDFL won't be moving anywhere before the 2024 council elections - stay tuned for some high profile candidates....

On another note do we have any early pre christmas predictions for 2020 ladder? most recruiting would have been done, bar the one or two surprises and walk in that take place in Jan and Feb.

MV is primed for promotion. Even without more recruits to come they look too hard to go past. Will probs win the 2s flag as well.. new club rooms, alot to like
OP BH should be top 4. Surely enough talent around OPs big player list to make finals
CD HAD to round out the top 4. Haddy improved alot last year. And if they can nab a few more old boys back they will be right up there come 2021
ES NS KP cant really make a case for finals. But the comp it's open enough for one of them to surprise!
Jacana? Who knows..

Expect some more clearances to Hadfield in the new window, a few training down there that haven’t put one in yet, also hearing Smith has chosen to stay which is interesting

Moonee valley have to be flag favourites now but not sure it’s a smart move loading up on blokes over 30 (lobb, Gleeson, Smith, Ryans x2, McGrath) if they intend to stay up if they do win it

You’ll find it’s hard for a major shake up. Most likely 1-2 changes to the 9 councillors. It will depend on if any retire that might mean 3-4 changes.
the voting system doesn’t allow for major changes.

Would normally agree with your thoughts regarding older players for sustainability IFFFFFF they go up. But let’s keep in mind after this season this division will most likely have St Albans, Rupertswood and Diggers Rest in it. If that’s the case then which ever clubs stay in this division will most likely stay for 3 years.

this is something that a few clubs may rue given that 2020 looms as the best chance since 2016 to move up. Young lists don’t tend to stay in tact where there is no chance to taste success aka East Sunbury Is a case in point. These are three teams will dominate the division. If these teams come in it will be 2024 before any existing C grade team gets to hold some silverware. MV have been building over last 4 years and have been unlucky at times but have held their nerve and built with some youth and experienced players. Theyll keep blooding younger types and with existing youth will prime them for B grade. Hats off to them, but of course it’s only December of the pre season lots to play and would be good if a few Smokey’s show something.

This league’s administration has made some mistakes and if these 3 clubs come into the EDFL surely at least 1 will go not div1 to eliminate the bye. They all should be considered on there 2020 form and really all should go straight into div1 but nest to have a 10-10-10 comp.

Yeah I agree. Same conversation they’re having in other div threads... it’s very difficult to recruit or even retain existing players when there seems to be little chance of success that season. MV has developed a massive junior base and have a coach and senior players with a lot of reach throughout footy in general so it’s no surprise with some of these signings. Some are former juniors returning home and others want to play with mates with a good shot of winning a premiership. It’ll be interesting and exciting this year to say the least. A good change from last season

The fog would be the only team capable of staying up in b grade at this stage.

It would be crippling for most of existing clubs in this competition if its Years of those kind of clubs possibly coming into c grade.
C grade flag success... Better now than never..

Word on the street is Keilor Park have signed Kempster a key position player from Sunbury (BFNFL) and spent time with Willy and Frankston before that. Will absolutely dominate this level and if they can find a few others expect a huge improvement from KP. His dad is a past player (and was a gun) and is heavily involved up at KP. Huge recruit!
kempster a huge get if true, saw him dominate at marby a few times. Massive drop from vfl to div 2 in a short time

It’s official and huge for KP to sign Kempster, plus his 1 point. If he plays forward and they can win enough Centre clearances not sure sure many defenders will be able to stop him kicking big bags of goals. They look to have recruited some good div2 midfielders so they could be big improvers. Question will be if there defence can hold up.

With Shannon Carol recruiting over 20 new players for season 2020 I’d be feeling a little concerned if I played in the 2019 Grand Final obviously he doesn’t rate his 2019 list ???
How many players will they loose if that’s the case
