EDFL Premier Discussion 2024

In the end most of them won’t even be 1’s senior players at a Keilor or Abers.

Then will be forced to go back to original club or anywhere else to play 1’s.
But more often than not, they don't.
Not speaking of any particular club but the attrition at some of the big clubs across the state is amongst the worst.

But in the meantime they have screwed their local first club and the big club reaped the benefits and gets higher number of seniors.
  • 18.5 Premier- Could possibly be a 5-6 team comp.
  • 16 Div 1 - Possibility a 4 team comp.
  • 14 Div 1 - Possibility of 4 team comp.

That’s not great for any competition anyway..

Yes coach X is the best senior coach in this comp and one of the best in any league but what he (and some others) have done to junior footy over a number of years is an utter disgrace.
Examples are the demise in junior clubs like EK, Tulla, Airport West, Oak Park, Westy, Glenroy, Keilor Park etc. Some of these clubs had decent juniors 4-5 years ago. Even the Tulla’s, Airport West and Oak Park had some pretty decent junior players but now they are struggling. Don’t tell me kids just head elsewhere without persuasion as that’s total BS.
They play against a good side and post game the sh@@ talk starts in trying to get them.

Yes this is a junior topic in some way but it reverts to senior level where we have seen a demise in the competition and in particular numbers dropping off at senior/reserve level. The 18.5 premier comp is a joke really..
That’s the breeding development competition and it’s broken.

I honestly believe it’s the parents majority of the time moving their kids to the big clubs and not the clubs contacting the families. My mate just yesterday told me if his 8yo! Son keeps showing potential he will move him to one of the Big 3 in U/12s, the family live over 15 minutes away from all them clubs. 🤦‍♂️
Maybe mate, but they are not going without being contacted and/or persuaded to head there. Kids prefer to play with mates and that’s usually closer to where they live. It’s easier also for the parents. That’s what 99% do first off with any sport unless the parent played elsewhere and they might head to the fathers old club but even that’s very rare.

Clubs definitely contact the better players from neighbouring clubs and might even be from other leagues through rep footy etc. There are rumours of kids travelling approximately 30mins to a home club. Free membership fees, club apparel, fuel costs reimbursed amongst other things are offered.

That club might be a powerhouse but it’s fu&&&& local footy and this competition with underhanded tactics for years. They have absolutely ruined junior footy..by raiding other clubs talent for years with incentive offers. Yes 2 other clubs were doing similar things but not as bad and another club is now reasonably strong due to following a similar path to compete.
It’s a big joke really and should have been stamped out as they have dug the holes for others clubs to be buried. As well as wrecking the competitive nature of footy.
on top of that their supporters bring their own Pi$$ to away games.

How terrific will the end of year be if by some chance the relegation battle comes down the EK and DP
We need a couple of the bigger clubs to structure their playing groups on certain weeks to allow AW the luxury of surviving in Premier
Lets see if the 2 clubs manipulating salary caps then calls wolf on the other clubs
Its an easy fix for all and something to bring a smile to us all .

All ek sides lose again .. from 3 rds not one win between them .. Was told two players walked out got there payments cut by half , another player shopping himself around.. pretty sure the coach said at the start he wanted to finish off what he started .. that’s going well
Who were the players that left Big Carl?

Maybe the EDFL could follow the WRFL and bring in points for junior footy.

It seems like a good idea, after reading through it.

Yeah on Thursday I heard that story. That’s a disgrace and clubs should refuse to buy from them all game. Good on the DP person to show the balls to confront them as that’s not what local footy is about. Really poor form Keilor FC.

When the kids get to 14’s and 16’s playing with your mates is secondary. Success brings players to clubs, if a decent player wants to play div 1 good on them

Doesn’t every club have the same chance to establish what Keilor have done with juniors.

No good crying poor you need to get to work to match or better them.

A lot of the premier clubs have recently played AFL players to draw on to be the billboard to attract young players.

Understand Keilor have all the systems in place and are good at what they doing, but every club has same opportunities but like to cry foul.

Maybe if clubs put time into getting to work on getting things in place they might see dividends. Obviously Strathmore and Pacco are doing it well so no reason other clubs can’t follow suit instead of looking for quick fix recruitment.
