Surely your not going back to Dusties after the crap you said about them 2 years ago Bigpapa.

Although I see Goodie jumped off the sinking ship at Darnum very quickly.
was all but pulling the boots on for dusties last season anyway....

saying i jumped off the sinking ship is a ridiculus statement leo. i was at darnum through thick and thin. whilst i had mates enjoying their time at clubs (not saying i didnt enjoy darnum just some years were hard).
i did not simply **** off on darnum i talked to plugger about my position one night and requested a clearance, i thought it was the correct time to move on and to play at a club closer to my house and with my close mates who are all pulling the boots on for dusties this season.
Altough disapointed, plugger didnt see me as jumping from a sinking ship as i was able to tell him why i was leaving, not simply because "f-that darnum are going to be shit im outta there" or "chasing coin" like some of the other blokes who have left darnum.

He jumped Leo.... No doubt about it.....lol

well what ever he did where absoloutly rapped to have him, be it playin or drinkin cans!!

Of course you are rapped to have him. Bar and canteen sales are up 32%. You can afford to recruit another gun player as a result.

Still no real suprises yet. Garfiled will play finals, good win over NNG who had a few injuries. When Garfield play CL it will be a cracker, lots of ex garfield blokes at the cobras.

Longwarry were very average, very small side and lots of young kids. Going to take a few yeards but some good kids so they will be back i reckon.

Watched Cora Lynn on the weekend. They look even better than last year.
Just wondering if someone with a bit more knowledge of the list could have a go at showing me how they fit under the points system put in place this year. Including their new recruit Singh.

They don't have that many recruits do they?

Robinson, Singh, Runnels, Withers, Davitt would be about it wouldn't it?

My understanding of it is this:

4 points = AFL Player.
3 points = VFL, SANFL, WAFL.
2 points = Other regional or metropolitan club from either other league or same league.
1 point = Own Junior Footballer, Player who hasnt registered to play for 2 seasons. Former club players returning (I think).

For example if Jason Davenport were to return to Darnum then he would only be a 1 point player.

There is a sliding scale as time passes, too. If Mal Michael were to have stayed this year he would only have cost 3 points to the club. All other recruits from last season would have been only 1 point this year.

Each player is judged on where his clearance comes from, into the league. Not sure how it works if a player has been our of AFL for a year and then comes to your club. Is he worth 4 points or 3 points? Probably 3 points I would think. Otherwise Damien Monkhorst could roll up to help the ruck stocks and be worth 4 points yet clearly he hasnt played in years so wouldnt be the same value as one just out of League footy last year. In this case Monkey would be worth 2 points as a new recruit just like any others that come to your club.

I think this is how it works and if it is wrong then it wouldnt be far off it.

Why would Jason Davenport be 1 point. Didnt he only play one season at Darnum? Didn't he play 3 or 4 years at Ellinbank? Ellinbank would be his home club?

Of course my opinion of it is that it ******s the overall ability of the competition to attract better footballers from AFL/VFL, thus enhancing the standard of the competition, by making it hard to play other recruits.

Effectively you can only recruit 9 new players in any year, providing they are all only 2 point players. 9 x 2 points = 18, plus 12 players @ 1 point = 21 players for 30 points.

If you get someone from the VFL then you will incur 1 x 3 points and you may only recruit 7 new players to the club as his 3 points are worth 1 and a half players.

1 x 3 = 3
7 x 2 = 14
13 x 1 = 13

Total = 30

It goes on from this and these are only maximums. I think we only had 25 points on the weekend so in reality we could have another 5 recruits to make it up to 30 points.

Of course no club is legally restricted to having only a maximum of 9 new recruits. You may recruit 12 new 2 point players if your club wishes. It is just that 3 of them will have to play reserves footy.

I wouldnt reckon many clubs would get close to 30 points this year.

Why would Jason Davenport be 1 point. Didnt he only play one season at Darnum? Didn't he play 3 or 4 years at Ellinbank? Ellinbank would be his home club?

If you look at his home club on AFL.com.au he states Darnum. I think he only had 1 season at Ellinbank as well. Never played as a junior. Was a late starter and is a wonderful story for late starters.

Also the fact that he played for us means he comes back as a one pointer. Josh O'Brien also played for us so comes back to us as a 1 point player. (I think I have this right.)

I reckon Josh Obrien played juniors at bunyip or drouin, same as Jason Davenport, drouin i think, he was a late starter.

Its not much of a restriction at all, Darnum side last year would only have been about 32-33 points and I think the idea of it is to stop things like that happening. No where near as harsh as other leagues where blokes are rated on games played in higher leagues etc.

Singh and robinson might be 3-4 points in gippy or casey league.

Dav played under 17's at Ellinbank , played 3 years maybe even 4.
And i think you will find when he was drafted Narre Warren was his home club as Travis Marsham ( davs first senior coach at ellinbank) was there as chairman of selectors.

Correct Norm Smitty...

They definately took the easy way out when designing the system. The fact that you could recruit Kris Bardon from Vermont, winner of the last two Eastern Football League medals, and he would come in at the same points as if you recruited a seconds player from another EDFL club is a bit of a joke really. Rich clubs still have an advantage as they have the funds to attract better players from stronger leagues, so there 5 recruits worth 10 points can potentially be worth a heap more than the bottom club who picks up 5 from around the EDFL.

I think they made a decision based on easy administration.

Interestingly, the DDCA (Dandenong Cricket) are looking to implement a point system for cricket next season. I wonder if they are the first to do so in cricket?

Match of the round this weekend seems to be Nyora vs Dusties. From the tips ive seen people thinks it a 50/50 game. I reckon its going to be a cracker. They are hard to beat over there and i dont think we've beaten them over there for 8 years or something like that. My pick Dusties by 15 points.
